Military Aircraft crashes in Algeria, over 200 soldiers killed

ALGIERS, APR 11 (DNA) – Hundreds of people are reported dead in a plane crash in Algeria, according to reports on Wednesday. “Military aircraft carrying soldiers and equipment crashes at airport near capital Algiers as harrowing footage emerges of horror blaz,” . The plane was transporting dozens of troops and equipment when it crashed just after 8:00 am local time.

Netflix set to make a reality show on Indian cricket team

MUMBAI, APR 11 (DNA) –  The online series website Netflix in collaboration with Condé Nast Entertainment is about to launch a reality show about cricket in India, media reports said. The untitled project will highlight the Mumbai Indians known to be the most successful team in the Indian premier league (IPL). The eight-episode series will shadow the Mumbai squad as they compete to win for the fourth consecutive time in what is known to be the second most watched sport in the world.

Popular cough syrup recalled from Pakistani market

ISLAMABAD, APR 10 (DNA) –  The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap) has recalled commonly-prescribed cough syrup Sancos from the market after stability data of the drug was found out of specification. The company, Norvartis, has advertised that it has been voluntarily recalling Sancos syrup of all doses from the market. It says the decision has been taken in line with the commitment to patients’ safety and ethical practices. It further says that the syrup was manufactured by a third party.

SECP notifies new AAOIFI Shariah standards for public consultation

ISLAMABAD, APR 10 (DNA): The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has fast-tracked the adoption of Shariah standards to bring about harmonization and standardization in the business practices of Islamic financial institutions. The SECP has notified for public consultation seven more Shariah standards of the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI).

Russia, US headed for clash at UN over Syria gas attacks probe

UNITED NATIONS, APR 10 (DNA) – The UN Security Council could vote as early as Tuesday on rival US and Russian proposals to investigate chemical weapons attacks in Syria, setting up a clash that could trigger vetoes of both measures, diplomats said. The United States put forward a draft resolution Monday following alleged toxic gas use in the rebel-held town of Douma that killed at least 40 people and prompted President Donald Trump to indicate that a decision could be taken soon on US military action.

‘Social jetlag’ linked to lower grades: study

NEW YORK, APR 09 (DNA) – When work, school and other scheduled activities are out of sync with a person’s body clock, “social jetlag” results and diminishes performance, researchers say. The study team used a university computer system to follow nearly 15,000 students’ daily rhythms and activities over two years. They found that bigger differences between an individual’s class schedule and their natural “chronotype” – morning lark, night owl or in between – were tied to poorer academic performance.

Salman Khan walks free after spending two nights in jail

NEW DELHI, APR 07 (DNA) – After spending two nights in Jodhpur Central Jail, Salman Khan has been granted bail in a 1998 blackbuck poaching case. Today’s judgement comes as relief for the actor who was sentenced to a 5-year jail term on Thursday. Earlier today, Khan s bail plea hearing was concluded in the Jodhpur District and Sessions Court in front of Judge Ravindra Kumar Joshi, who reserved the order till post-lunch.
