Maj Gen Syed Khalid Amir Jaffery (Retd) – President CGSS commenced the session by welcoming all the participants, especially the Chinese speakers for joining the unique webinar. He stated that China is considered as biggest threat by US for unknown reasons. US is attempting to contain China but this policy is deemed to failure because of the concept of BRI, which has very efficientlycountered the containment policy without firing a single bullet.

Mr. Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, Director General China, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan emphasized the significance of Pak-China friendship and thanked the Chinese friends for participating in this very timely initiative. He stated that there is a need for multilateralism and deeper strategic coordination between Pakistan and China.

He also mentioned that he has had the honor of serving in China and China is an all-weather strategic partner of Pakistan. Within Pakistan there is a general consensus between all political parties, all institutions and the citizens of the country that Pakistan’s closest friend is China and both the counties are Iron Bothers.

Mr. Victor Zhikai GAO, Chair Professor Soochow University & Vice President, Center for China & Globalization, Beijing, China talked about China-India Border Clash and its current status. Moreover, the tensions have increased in the South China Sea, in Taiwan and between United States and China also. We see increasing links between India and United States including the recent concluded joint naval exercise between the two countries in the Indian Ocean.

Prof. Huang Yunsong, Associate Dean, School of International Studies, Sichuan University, Chengdu stated that there are two takeaways of the entire episode; first that the Standoff between India and China at the Line of Controlis under control and the possibility of war has been considerably reduced; and secondly that the China-India bilateral relations have suffered serious setbacks after this border skirmish. China does not want confrontation with India but India needs to act responsibly as well.

Mr. Qinduo Xu, Researcher on Chinese Foreign Policy, Pangaol Institution, Beijing stated that United States views China as a top competitor and adversary. For the upcoming elections, US government is creating distraction from their poor handling of the Covid-19 pandemic by bashing China. Islamabad, July 27: To help the slums 20 kilometers away from here overcoming COVID-19 epidemic, Yang Xiaolong, a Chinese motocyclist led a group of Chinese travelers to donate supplies to sulms in Pakistan.According to Gwadar Pro, Yang Xiaolong is a Chinese globetrotter and a planner of China-Pakistan friendship travel.

He has organized motorcycle teams many times to ride along the KKH From China to Pakistan.“We do round trip five or six times every year, and some locals knew us and became very good friends with us,” Yang Xiaolong said. The citizens in slums keep a difficult living standard, severe sanitation conditions, the awareness of prevention and control is weak. Thus, the situation of residents is grim.“we must offer help when brothers are in trouble.” Knowing that the situation in Pakistan is severe, these Chinese travelers were very worried and spontaneously donated supplies to the local slums.

During the period of COVID-19 outbreak, Yang Xiaolong raised funds, rushed to contact friends and manufacturers, paid attention to the slums of Pakistan, went through formalities, made overall coordination, and donated relief tents, daily necessities, epidemic prevention supplies and other materials within his capacity, including 3,000 bags of bread and 10,000 pieces of masks.

Due to the epidemic, Yang Xiaolong was unable to travel to Pakistan in person, so he commissioned another Chinese cyclist in Islamabad to distribute supplies to the slums.

In fact, this is not the first time that Chinese motorcyclists have donated. Before the outbreak of COVID-19, Yang Xiaolong and others would bring food, stationery, daily necessities and other supplies to children in slums every time they rode to Pakistan. In addition to the slums near Islamabad, where they go most often, travelers often find different slums to send supplies.Yang Xiaolong recalled: “Every time we went to a slum, we brought them some bread, flour and rice, and gave kids sweets and snacks. In addition, we also brought the national flags of China and Pakistan.”

Yang Xiaolong told Gwadar Pro that after the epidemic, he will once again rally a team to Pakistan, “’Iron Brother’ is by no means a cold political term. Our friends are there, Pakistan is a place we never get bored with how many times we go.”“Thanks to Pakistan for giving us higher dimensions of travel and life meaning. As a respond, I’d love to do more for this lovely country,” he said.

Huawei slashes India’s revenue target by up to 50% as ties with Delhi deteriorate

Amid calls to boycott Chinese goods in Asia’s third-largest economy, Chinese telecom company Huawei Technologies has slashed its India revenue target for 2020 by up to 50% and is axing off more than half of its staff in the country.

Huawei is now targeting $350-$500 million in revenue for 2020, compared with roughly $700-800 million it was aiming earlier.

Huawei is cutting 60-70% of its Indian staff, excluding those in research and development and the global service centre.

The report comes amid a rise in anti-China sentiment in India following the killing of 20 Indian soldiers in a Himalayan border dispute last month.

India has also told two state-run telecoms firms to use locally-made rather than Chinese telecom equipment to upgrade their mobile networks to 4G.

Huawei did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the report.

Pak rupee strengthens against US dollar in interbank

KARACHI: The exchange rate of Pakistani rupee strengthened by Rs0.21 against US dollar in the intraday trade.

According to forex dealers, the greenback is currently trading at 166.05 against the domestic currency at the interbank foreign exchange market.

The dollar had finished at Rs166.26 against the local unit the other day.Meanwhile, gold in the international market hit a record high Monday as investors rushed into the safe-haven on concerns about a spike in virus infections around the world and a lack of progress on a new stimulus bill in Washington.

The greenback was down against most other currencies, with the euro at its highest since September 2018, while higher-yielding units such as the South Korean won and Indonesian rupiah were also up.

After months of healthy rallies across equity markets, fuelled by trillions of dollars in government and central bank support, traders are beginning to step back as they weigh the long-term economic impact of the coronavirus.

With vast monetary easing measures put in place by the Federal Reserve pushing the dollar lower against most other currencies, gold is flying, hitting an all-time high of $1,944.71, well above its previous record of $1,921.18 seen in 2011.

Broad stars as England edge closer to winning third Windies Test

MANCHESTER : Stuart Broad edged closer to his 500th wicket as England left West Indies reeling at 10 for two wickets after setting them a target of 399 runs to win the third and final Test at Old Trafford.

Broad, who had taken four wickets in the tourists’ first innings in the morning, continued by removing opener John Campbell without scoring and then nightwatchman Kemar Roach (4) after the West Indies were put in for the last six overs of the day.

England had declared on 226 for two in their second innings as Rory Burns scored 90, Joe Root a quickfire 68 and Dom Sibley 56.

They accelerated the run rate in Sunday’s evening session, seeking to build a large lead but still leave themselves enough time to bowl the West Indies out again and win the Test.

England were hastened by the prospect of Monday’s play being heavily curtailed by rain, leaving them the last day’s play on Tuesday to try engineer victory and take the series 2-1.

Burns had to sacrifice the personal milestone of a Test century to allow England a chance to bowl at the tourists in the late afternoon gloom, in search of an early inroad.

He abandoned the studied approach that got him to the 80s to slash at the ball and was out when he skied spinner Roston Chase straight up into the air and caught.

Root was not out, scoring his runs off just 56 balls as he went after the bowling with characteristic flair.

Sibley was the first England wicket to fall after a 114-run partnership with Burns, trapped leg before wicket by Windies captain Jason Holder.

England began their second innings just before lunch after Broad finished with figures of 6-31 in 14 overs, mopping up the tail to dismiss the West Indies for 197 in the first innings and give his side a 172-run lead.

But it took a frustrating 54 minutes for England to make a breakthrough after the West Indies had resumed on 137-6, facing the possibility of being asked to bat again.

Holder led the fightback as he scored an important 46 runs to help his side avoid the follow-on before Broad had him lbw.

The series is level after West Indies won by four wickets at Southampton before England secured a 113-run victory at Old Trafford.
