In an unsavory situation of frenzy urbanization, energy drought, environmental hazards, infrastructure developments changing cities into jungle of concrete and wayward life style, Pakistan is scrambling to go green, cool and cozy.

Rise of electricity-generated appliances in residential, commercial and industrial sectors sans energy efficient systems and green building technologies has played a perilous role in impairing quality life. Strenuous efforts, though desperately demanded, are not off the charts. People being major stakeholders, most of market players and government have yet to act together to make a turnaround.

The public outrage over yet another “security lapse” makes complete sense. It marked the fourth consecutive terror strike within a week leaving almost 50 innocents people dead. These incidents of violence shocked everyone because of the considerable decline in the acts of terror in 2015. Much of the fury from politicians and intellectuals was directed against the 20-point National Action Plan (NAP). Most equated the attack to a sheer failure of the NAP.

In month of June, 2015 the Republic of Azerbaijan hosted first ever European Games. The country with overwhelming Muslim majority population brought together more than 6000 European athletes. Thousands of sport fans and tourists from all over the world got mesmerised with beauty of capital city Baku and other spots of Azerbaijan. And the fact that Azerbaijani team stood second in the Olympics was another surprise.
24 years back, this scene would have looked a dream. In the early years of independence Azerbaijan experienced tremendous difficulties as it was beset by both economic and political crises. A flood of refugees and IDPs as a result of Armenian aggression, ruined economy, and an atmosphere of apathy and hopelessness had left few who could believe in a bright future for this country.
