WASHINGTON, APR 14 (DNA) – U.S., British and French forces pounded Syria with air strikes early on Saturday in response to a poison gas attack that killed dozens of people last week, in the biggest intervention by Western powers against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Jaguar Land Rover to cut output and jobs due to Brexit, diesel slump: source
LONDON, APR 13 (DNA) – Britain’s biggest carmaker Jaguar Land Rover will cut around 1,000 jobs and production at two of its English factories due to a fall in sales caused by uncertainty around Brexit and confusion over diesel policy. Output will be cut at its central English Solihull and Castle Bromwich plants, affecting some 1,000 agency workers, the source said.
Red meat linked to liver disease, diabetes risk factor: study
NEW YORK, APR 13 (DNA) – People who eat lots of processed and red meat are at increased risk of developing chronic liver disease and insulin resistance, a diabetes risk factor – especially if they like their steak well done, an Israeli study suggests. Researchers focused on what’s known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which is associated with obesity and certain eating habits. While red and processed meat has long been linked to an increased risk of diabetes, certain cancers and heart disease, evidence to date has been mixed about its connection to liver disease.

ISLAMABAD, APR 14 (DNA) – President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain has said relations between Pakistan and Turkey are from cordial to excellent adding these relations have further been strengthened over the years. The President was speaking on the occasion of launching of photo exhibition “Journey of Friendship and Brotherhood- A pictorial survey of Turkey-Pakistan relations”, at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA). The Turkey embassy and Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Centre jointly organized the exhibition.
Presidential election in Azerbaijan held democratically: Czech observer
BAKU, APR 12 (DNA) – The presidential election was held in democratic conditions in Azerbaijan, said Jiri Valenta, a member of the Czech Chamber of Deputies (Parliament of the Czech Republic) and deputy chairman of the Committee on European Affairs, at a press conference dedicated to the election in Baku April 12. Valenta noted that no violations of law were recorded during the voting process.
Ilahm Aliyev wins Presidential election with thumping majority
BAKU, APR 11 (DNA) – The US-based AJF & Associates Inc. and the Citizens’ Labor Rights Protection League have announced the results a joint exit-poll conducted at Azerbaijan’s presidential election on April 11. According to the exit-poll results, 85.57 percent of voters cast their ballots for Ilham Aliyev, 2.96 percent – for Gudrat Hasanguliyev, 2.48 percent – for Sardar Mammadov, 2.92 percent – for Zahid Oruj, 1.76 percent – for Hafiz Hajiyev, 1.42 percent – for Araz Alizada, 1.52 percent – for Farah Guliyev and 1.37 percent – for Razi Nurullayev.

Belt and Road initiative is not a Chinese plot, Xi says
BEIJING, APR 11 (DNA) – President Xi Jinping’s signature foreign policy plan to build a new “Silk Road” of infrastructure and trade links between China and Eurasia is not a “Chinese plot”, Xi said on Wednesday. Xi’s Belt and Road Initiative, unveiled in 2013, aims to bolster a sprawling network of land and sea links with Southeast Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa.
