ISLAMABAD, AUG 02 (DNA) – Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad visited Islamabad on August 1 and 2 and held discussions with Pakistani leadership on developments in the Afghan peace process.In his meetings with Prime Minister Imran Khan, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, and Chief of Army Staff General Javed Bajwa, Ambassador Khalilzad outlined the positive momentum in the Afghan peace process and next steps.They also discussed the role Pakistan has played in support of the process and additional positive steps Pakistan can take.
US peace envoy meets PM Imran Khan
ISLAMABAD, AUG 01 (DNA) – U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Imran Khan.The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to remain engaged with the U.S. and other stakeholders in facilitating the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan.Recalling his recent interaction with President Donald Trump in Washington, the Prime Minister emphasized that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was in the interest of Pakistan as well as of the broader region.The Prime Minister also expressed satisfaction at the evolving international consensus and interest in fully supporting efforts to achieve long term peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani survives no-confidence resolution
ISLAMABAD: (DNA) – Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani on Thursday survived a no-confidence motion moved against him by the opposition.50 votes were received in favour of the no-confidence motion, thus the resolution against Sadiq Sanjrani was not adopted. Voting took place through a secret ballot with a total of 53 votes required to remove the chairman.At the start of the session, 64 senators had stood up in support of the motion to table the no-confidence resolution.For the first time in the history of Pakistan, a no-confidence motion had been submitted against the Senate chairman, demanding he resigns from his post.Opposition parties had nominated Hasil Bizenjo as their candidate for the post of Senate chairman.

Lawmakers Accuse Trump and Aides of Delaying F-16 Sales to Taiwan
WASHINGTON — Lawmakers in Congress from both political parties have accused the Trump administration of delaying an $8 billion sale of F-16 fighter jets to Taiwan, the self-governing democratic island off the coast of China that is supported by the United States.Chinese officials have said they object strongly to the sale of 66 jetsrequested by Taiwan, which would be by far the largest such purchase by its government in many years. Chinese Nationalists Bring Threat of Violence to Australia Universities
BRISBANE, Australia — The Chinese nationalists disrupting pro-Hong Kong democracy rallies at the University of Queensland arrived 300 strong, with a speaker to blast China’s national anthem. They deferred to a leader in a pink shirt. And their tactics included violence.One video from the scene shows a student from Hong Kong being grabbed by the throat. Another shows a philosophy student, Drew Pavlou, 20, shouting, “Hey hey, ho ho, Xi Jinping has got to go,” until a counter protester throws his megaphone aside.
