SWAT, Mar.26 (DNA): The country’s national carrier, Pakistan Airlines (PIA) resumed flight operations to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)’s scenic Swat Valley after 17 years on Friday, according to Gwadar Pro.

The first flight to Swat Valley flew from Islamabad International Airport and landed at Saidu Sharif Airport.

“Another economy booster for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s tourism industry; air travel is live again,” announced KP Government spokesperson Kamran Bangash on twitter.

Chief Minister KP Mahmood Khan, Federal Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan, and Federal Minister for Communication and Postal Services Murad Saeed along with 44 other passengers took off from Islamabad for Saidu Sharif Airport Swat and landed at Saidu Sharif Airport Swat.

Before flying, the official cut the cake to celebrate the inauguration.

There will be two flights to and from Saidu Sharif Airport to Islamabad and Lahore in a week.
During the militancy period from 2007-2009, tourism was almost destroyed in the valley. However, security forces cleaned the valley from the militants and restored peace in the valley.

The people of Swat Valley and Xinjiang have centuries of old cultural and business ties, as they are geographically close to each other.

Over the history, the people of Swat would travel through Gilgit-Baltistan to Xinjiang, China to bring goods and people of both regions had entered into marital relations, according to local historians.

Currently, Mingora City of Swat is known for the markets of Chinese goods. The business continues to prevail via land route and sea.

In recent interactions with Gwadar Pro, the business community of Mingora had demanded the government to start direct flights from Swat Airport to China to reduce travel expenses and time. According to officials in Aviation, soon the airport would be open to international flights including to China.

PAKISTANI ENTREPRENEURS NEEDED TO PROMOTE BUSINESS IN A GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE: MA XIAOYAN

ISLAMABAD, Mar. 26 (DNA): Pakistani entrepreneurs must take a global and international perspective in their business practices, said Ma Xiaoyan, Chairman of Xinjiang Haoyan International Business Consulting Co., Ltd., who has been engaged in business management for 15 years in Pakistan.

Talking to China Economic Net (CEN), he said, starting from the cultivation of agricultural products, they should change the original rough production methods, introduce international market quality certification systems and quality control standards, research the target consumer groups, understand the needs of consumers, and improve food formula to meet the consumption habits of consumers.

In addition, they can seek Chinese partners, who are mainly responsible for the control of production technology, product quality and sales market.

Pakistani entrepreneurs can vigorously develop the huge potential consumer market in China with the help of the China-Pakistan free trade policies, Ma said.

According to CEN’s report, although Pakistan’s trade deficit with China has declined in recent years, it may still be an important factor affecting the sustained and healthy development of bilateral trade.

Since the first phase of the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement came into effect, bilateral trade volume has increased from USD 2.2 billion in 2005 to USD 15.6 billion in 2019.

75% of Pakistan’s exports to China are concentrated in a few products such as cotton and rice, leading to a large export deficit with China, according to a report in Pakistani daily The Express Tribune.

Agriculture is the main driving force of Pakistan’s economic growth, and the export of agricultural products is the largest source of Pakistan’s foreign exchange income.

The Chinese government has always encouraged the expansion of trade with Pakistan, hoping to import more goods from Pakistan, especially agricultural products. But by contrast, Pakistan’s agricultural products still show a slight disadvantage in the competition of similar products in the international market.

“As a typical agricultural country, Pakistan has a relatively high proportion of agriculture and service industries in its industrial structure, and its industrial development is insufficient.

This has led to its export agricultural products with few varieties and low added value. Therefore, Pakistan’s traditional agriculture urgently needs to be transformed and upgraded, releasing more room for economic growth,” Ma said.

Ma believes that the development of modern agriculture and modern industry in Pakistan is an inevitable trend in the future.

“Infrastructure investment driven by the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project is an important opportunity for Pakistan to develop modern agriculture and industry. Pakistan has a solid foundation of water conservancy and irrigation, and a competitive labor force.

On this basis, focusing on the deep processing of high value-added agricultural products is the best way to increase the value of Pakistan’s export products, and also a booster for the development of its industrial chain.

the same time, Pakistan should also improve its supporting service systems such as warehousing, cold chain, and logistics to promote the transformation and upgrading of its agriculture and industry,” Ma added.

He is full of confidence in the continuous and in-depth cooperation between China and Pakistan. He said that the 70-year friendship laid the most solid foundation for the two countries.

Ma also shared a story with the reporter that when he first cleared customs at Pakistan’s Sost dry port in 2006, the local agent paid 500,000 rupees in advance for him when he learned that Ma is a Chinese person.

As CPEC enters the second phase, the two countries will step up cooperation in agriculture. In the future, China’s investment in processing industry of agricultural products will be expanded to onion, mango, beans, rice, wheat, vegetables and meat in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, China will set up a pest control research center in Karachi to provide local farmers with high-quality seeds.

“We will help Pakistan increase its productivity and enhance the market competitiveness of its agricultural products,” Ma concluded.
