3 Important Things You Need To Do To Keep Your Kids Safe Online

Online learning has become one of the main modes of schooling in 2020 and 2021. And given that your kids are accessing the internet almost through the day, it is imperative that you up their security online.

Google’s Lucian Teo, Online Safety Education Lead, explained in a blog that their company conducted a recent research together with the Trust Research team in Asia-Pacific (Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam) and Latin America (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico) and they found that parents with children attending school online were more concerned about online safety than ones whose children attended school in-person.

Trying to instill safe habits, particularly online, can be challenging. But here are some simple stuff that you can do.

1. Protect their digital identities

  • Teach kids how to choose strong passwords that cannot be easily guessed. Avoid simple passwords that use names, birthdates, or even favourite cartoon characters. And while you are at it, don’t forget to check your own passwords!
  • Stick to platforms that have a strong reputation for user safety and are reliable. If you have not heard of a platform or a service your kids are accessing, read up about it first before you let them use it.

2. Know who they talk to

  • Try to talk to your kids about the games they play or the videos they watch, and also the people they play with online. Ask them to speak to you the very moment they face any situation or person online that makes them feel uncomfortable.
  • When assessing if a game is suitable for your child, it is important to check not only the content of the game, but also whether the app allows online communications. Some multiplayer games allow only a few options for social interaction, like a thumbs up rather than a text chat. This reduces risks of unwanted social interactions.

3. Offer appropriate content at the appropriate age

  • Turn on SafeSearch or the likes on your browser. This helps filter out explicit content in search results.
  • Manage your child’s device by creating an user account for them using the Family Link (like on Google). This will allow you to add filters on search results, block websites and give access only to the ones you allow, and track location of your child if they have their own device.
  • Sites like YouTube also come with parental controls as do many other content streaming platforms like Netflix etc. You can use these to limit screen time and also pick suitable content for your kids.

Issues message on the occasion of anniversary of Iran Revolution; says the Iranian people are firmly and zealously following the Islamic Revolution ideals

ISLAMABAD, (DNA): Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini Ambassador of Islamic republic of Iran to Pakistan has said he was honored to congratulate forty-second anniversary of the auspicious victory of the “Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution” to all of its lovers from Pakistan and around the world.

He said, after the Islamic Revolution in Iran, the value and importance of the friendly and brotherly neighboring country of Pakistan increased more than ever, and the promotion of relations becomes one of the priorities in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In a message on the occasion, the Iranian ambassador recognized endeavors of the valiant and resilient people of Iran. Imposition of harsh sanctions and maximum pressure against our Islamic Republic, especially in its high- point level of Covid19 crisis; Unilateral pressure on neighboring countries to divert relations from its normal course,

Withdrawing or not fulfilling provisions of JCPOA, which symbolizes the belief and will of the Islamic Republic of Iran to resolve international challenges with peaceful manners,

And assassination of Iranian intellectuals, are just some examples of these hostile approaches to the Islamic Revolution and sample of their attempts to undermine it,  he added.

“Today, four decades after the Islamic Revolution, we are witnessing that the people of Iran, especially Iranian youth, with a serious determination to progress and firm believe to the values of Islamic principles, strive for the betterment and prosperity of their country and stand against unilateralism and external pressure as well as corruption, and injustice. This determination, have created a bright and hopeful horizon for our dear Iran”.

ISLAMABAD – China’s CanSino vaccine is 74.8% effective in preventing COVID-19, Special Assistant to the PM for Health Dr Faisal Sultan said late Monday.

Dr Sultan said that the vaccine proved 100% effective at preventing severe diseases in the group of volunteers from Pakistan. He congratulated the health workers for conducting successful trials across the country.

A multi-country analysis by the Independent Data Monitoring Committee shows 65.7% efficacy for symptomatic cases and 90.98% for the severe ones. No serious safety concerns were reported.

One of CanSino’s biggest trials is being conducted in Pakistan, which will also receive 20 million doses, Bloomberg reported Monday.

The vaccine is developed by the German BioNTech in collaboration with the Chinese military. Its final stage trials involved 30,000 volunteers.

A vaccine must have at least 50% protection rate to be considered effective, according to the world’s leading regulators and the World Health Organisation.

Nadal eases injury fears in first match since November

Melbourne, Feb 9  : Rafael Nadal opened his campaign for a record 21st Grand Slam title with a routine straight-sets win Tuesday, seemingly untroubled by the back injury that hampered his build-up.

The world number two pulled out of the ATP Cup last week with the niggle and said ahead of the Australian Open that he was “suffering”.

But he motored through his first-round clash against valiant Serb Laslo Djere with little drama, racing to a 6-3, 6-4, 6-1, victory under blue skies on Rod Laver Arena.

“It’s been a tough 15 days for me,” said the Spaniard, whose only appearance this year had been an exhibition against Dominic Thiem in Adelaide 12 days ago, where he first experienced stiffness in his back.

“So I needed to survive today and that’s what I did. I’m happy to be through and I think I did a good job today, straight sets is what I needed.”

It was his first competitive match since the semi-finals of the ATP Finals in London on November 21.

Nadal raced to a 3-0 first-set lead and wrapped it up before a tougher set two as Djere upped his first serve percentage and got himself in the rallies, with Nadal saving three break points.

But the unrelenting Spaniard kept coming, dominating off his first serve and outlasting the Serb on the long rallies.

The 2009 champion, who has a history of back problems, is looking to edge ahead of Roger Federer in career Slam titles, with both men having 20 to their name.

But the king of clay has often laboured in vain on Melbourne’s hardcourts, reaching five finals but only having the one title, falling in the quarter-finals last year to Dominic Thiem.

Nadal next plays either Serb veteran Viktor Troicki or qualifier Michael Mmoh and is on course to meet Greek rising star and fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals.

Anderson strikes edge England closer to victory in India Test

Chennai, India, Feb 9  : India were staring at defeat against England Tuesday after paceman James Anderson claimed three wickets to leave the hosts struggling at 144 for six at lunch in the opening Test in Chennai.

India resumed on 39-1 but lost their top runmakers after overnight batsman Cheteshwar Pujara fell for 15 off left-arm spinner Jack Leach.

Up and coming Shubman Gill completed his third Test fifty in just his fourth game before Anderson turned on the heat with his reverse swing on a wearing pitch.

Skipper Joe Root gave Anderson the ball in the 14th over and he bowled Gill with an in-coming delivery to send the off stump flying. Three balls later he cleaned up Ajinkya Rahane for nought.

Anderson got India’s first innings hero Rishabh Pant for 11 and spinner Dom Bess chipped in with the wicket of Washington Sundar for nought as India slipped to 117-6.

Kohli hit three successive boundaries off Bess and along with Ashwin, who took a nasty hit on his right wrist off a rising Jofra Archer delivery, carried the team to the break without further damage.
