Photography book launched at the Pakistan High Commission London

LONDON: A photography book entitled “The Karakoram – Ice Mountains of Pakistan” by acclaimed landscape photographer Colin Prior was launched at the Pakistan High Commission London on 28 July 2021. The book is a descriptive and visual compilation of Prior’s several visits to Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region to photograph the mountains and capture their beauty.


In his remarks on the occasion, High Commissioner Moazzam Ahmad Khan congratulated Colin Prior on publishing a masterpiece that brought to greater light the unique natural beauty of northern areas of Pakistan.  He appreciated the efforts that went into producing the book, which, he said, couldn’t have been possible without tremendous compassion for nature.
Mentioning positive reviews of Pakistan as a tourism destination by leading travel publications and organizations, he said that Pakistan tourism was poised to grow exponentially.


Colin Prior made an illustrated presentation and shared personal experiences and recollections of his travels to the region. He said:
“Having made six, month long expeditions to the Karakoram Mountains, I am delighted, finally, to see the project published in my latest book, The Karakoram – Ice Mountains of Pakistan.
“My hope is that this book will raise awareness of The Karakoram Mountains, in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan, as the finest mountain range in the world and showcase, what I believe, to be the world’s most spectacular gallery of shape and form.”
In addition to the High Commission, Bestway Group, Rangoonwala Foundation, United Bank Ltd. Habib Bank Ltd. and Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) partly sponsored the publishing of the book by Merrell Publishers.
It was a well-attended event.

Pakistan’s Parliamentary delegation visited the Embassy

Ambassador Bilal Hayee briefed the delegation about bilateral relations between the two countries, and consular services provided by the Embassy to the Pakistani community in Azerbaijan and Georgia. 
The delegation comprised of Parliament Members including Ms. Munaza Hassan, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Mr. Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Syed Mustafa Mehmud, Syed Hussain Tariq, Ms. Naz Baloch and senior officials of the National Assembly.

Govt to focus on Central Asia, other potential markets for exports promotion

ISLAMABAD, Jul 29 :The government has planned to focus on many new markets including Central Asian States, Afghanistan, Malaysia etc for promoting Pakistan’s exports.

Shehzad Ahmed Khan, Director General, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan Islamabad expressed these views during his visit to the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry along with Muhammad Ishaq Shinwari, Director TDAP Islamabad.

He also shared the annual business plan of TDAP to promote Pakistan’s trade and exports through various initiatives including holding of single country exhibitions, trade fairs, product shows and seminars/conferences in collaboration with various regional trade bodies.

Shehzad Ahmed Khan said that trade bodies should also share their annual business plans with TDAP to explore the areas of mutual collaboration for trade development. He said that TDAP wanted to provide international exposure to potential exporters in order to tap new markets for exports promotion.

 He also discussed the possibility of organizing a zoom meeting of Pakistani missions with ICCI and other trade bodies to identify new avenues of trade and exports enhancement. He further discussed the potential areas of cooperation with ICCI to make collaborative efforts for promoting trade and exports from this region.

Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry said that the supportive role of TDAP with trade bodies was very important to realize the untapped trade and exports potential of Pakistan.

He said that trade bodies including ICCI were making great efforts to promote Pakistan’s business interests, however, efforts of trade bodies in collaboration with TDAP would yield far better results for economic growth of the country.

He said that ICCI has planned many initiatives including business delegations for Azerbaijan, Suadi Arabia and other countries besides holding a mega property expo in near future and urged the TDAP to extend its full cooperation to make these initiatives highly successful for promoting business and economic interests of Pakistan.

Fatma Azim, Senior Vice President and Abdul Rehman Khan Vice President ICCI also shared many useful ideas in the meeting for promoting Pakistan’s trade and exports with potential markets.

Both sides agreed to maintain close liaison for collaborative initiatives in order to explore new markets for promotion of Pakistan’s economic interests.

KPT establishes three Covid-19 vaccination centres

ISLAMABAD, Jul 29 :Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has established three Covid-19 vaccination centres to administer vaccination to the people in addition to KPT hospital.

In a statement, KPT said that proactive participation of KPT to enhance the Covid-19 vaccination at the port and surrounding areas of Kaemari and adjoining Islands.

In this regard, KPT has also launched a media campaign on vaccination for public awareness and motivation through pamphlets, banners, cables ads and print media.

Earlier, KPT had directed the general managers and heads of departments to ensure its implementations. 

According to instructions, no guests, except those with official business purpose, will be allowed in KPT Head Office Building.

Individuals entering port area or KPT head office have to cooperate with the port security personnel at entry/exit gates of port area and at KPT Head Office reception for their temperature checking. No officer or employee will be allowed to enter the port area or KPT Head Office without wearing proper mask. Those found without mask will be fined Rs 500.

Japan court upholds jail sentences for US duo over Ghosn escape

Tokyo, July 29:A Tokyo court has upheld jail sentences for a US father-son duo who helped ex-Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn flee Japan, as the pair waived their right to appeal.

At their final hearing earlier this month, former special forces operative Michael Taylor was sentenced to two years in prison, and his son Peter to one year and eight months.

The men had admitted helping smuggle ex-auto tycoon Ghosn onto a private jet inside an audio equipment box in an audacious December 2019 escape.

“The verdict was fixed as of July 28” for the pair, a Tokyo District Court spokeswoman told AFP Thursday. The Taylors and the prosecution both gave up their right to appeal within two weeks of the July 19 verdict, Kyodo News reported

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi called on H.H. Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain, in Manama today.

Highlighting the close and fraternal relations between the two countries that are rooted deep in common faith, shared history and people-to-people contacts, Foreign Minister Qureshi reaffirmed the commitment to further broaden these relations in all fields.

The Foreign Minister thanked Bahrain for its valuable support on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and other issues at the international fora. He also lauded the support extended by Bahrain during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Foreign Minister underscored the importance of enhancing economic, trade and investment cooperation between Pakistan and Bahrain in line with the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan for economic security, which is centered on the three pillars of peace, development partnerships, and connectivity.

While exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, the Foreign Minister apprised the Deputy Prime Minister on the human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK); and the evolving situation in Afghanistan. The Foreign Minister highlighted Pakistan’s support for the efforts for an inclusive, broad-based and comprehensive political settlement in Afghanistan.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Bahrain reciprocated the warm sentiments extended by Foreign Minister Qureshi and shared the desire to work in close collaboration with Pakistan to advance cooperation on all areas of mutual interest.

BAKU: Speaker of National Assembly congratulates the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan on the victory in the 44 Day patriotic war, in the meeting held at the Fairmount Hotel, on Wednesday. The Speaker extended his good wishes to both the President and Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, along with sharing the highlights of the successful First Trilateral Speakers’ Conference with the Foreign Minister.

In the meeting the Speak briefed the Foreign Misiter Bayramov on the situation of the Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir, and thanked for the unflinching support of Azerbaijan to Pakistan on this international dispute. He also praised Azerbaijan on its public stance for standing with Pakistan at multilateral fora in raising its voice against the systematic human rights violations in the Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir.The expansion of bilateral ties were discussed where it was highlighted that the engagement in the areas of economy and trade, health, education, climate change and interaction between people needs to be intensified.

The Speaker noted that travel for business and students should be facilitated and prioritized, the Foreign Minister was encouraged to facilitate the entry of Pakistani students that are already enrolled in the various universities of Azerbaijan. The Foreign Minister was also briefed on the Pakistan’s initiative to deal with Climate Change by the MNA Ms. Munazza Hassan. Foreign Minister Bayramov congratulated the Speaker upon his participation in the conference and also extended his gratituted to Pakistan for supporting Azerbaijan in regards to territorial integrity. Foreign Minister Bayramov briefed the Pakistani delegation regarding his visit to Pakistan in January this year where the Two Foreign Minister agreed upon expanding the bilateral ties concerning trade, economy, culture and interaction between people.

Pakistan returns 5 Afghan soldiers

RAWALPINDI: Five Afghan Soldiers have been returned to Afghan government authorities Wednesday evening at Nawapass, Bajaur at 17:45 after due procedure, a statement from Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. According to the statement, these Afghan Soldiers were given safe passage into Pakistan, on their own request, by Pakistan Army in Arundu Sector of Pak-Afghan International Border, Chitral, on 26th Jul. After necessary clearance, the Afghan soldiers crossed into Pakistan. The said soldiers have now been returned to Afghan authorities on their request.

Maryam Nawaz tests positive for Covid-19

LAHORE: PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz has tested positive for coronavirus, the party’s spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb confirmed Wednesday, as fears of a fourth coronavirus wave loom large.

Maryam has gone into self-quarantine after testing positive, the Aurangzeb said, as she appealed people to pray for the PML-N leader and other people infected with the virus.

Later, the PML-N vice-president, responding to a tweet, said was being treated at home and has symptoms like “fever, cough, and flu”.

Notable Pakistani politicians, including Prime Minister Imran Khan, PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Asad Umar, have tested positive and recovered from the virus.
