Islamic Emirate PM urges public support for Islamic system in Eid message

Islamic Emirate PM urges public support for Islamic system in Eid message

KABUL, JUN 16: Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, the prime minister of the Islamic Emirate, said that the people must firmly support the Islamic system.

In his Eid message, he emphasized the importance of citizens’ cooperation in protecting and strengthening the system.

The Prime Minister also called on interim government officials to spare no effort in assisting the citizens of the country.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, said about Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund’s Eid message: “Public cooperation in support of the system should increase. Whether in the security sector, the economic sector, or in the reconstruction of the country, there should be more coordination.”

A number of political analysts said public support for the current system is crucial, and they believe that the government should also accept the legitimate demands of the people.

“It is possible to gain the support of the people if the mujahideen of the Soviet and American jihad periods are brought into the government. Even those who were at home but are good and righteous people should be brought into the government,” said Sayed Akbar Agha, a political analyst.

“If regimes treat people well, naturally the people will support them, and this is very beneficial for the strengthening of a system,” said Aziz Stanekzai, another political analyst.

Meanwhile, Hamid Karzai, former president, and Abdullah Abdullah, the former chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation, in their separate Eid messages called for the reopening of schools and universities for girls above the sixth grade and added that the development and progress of Afghanistan lies in unity and cooperation.

PAK vs IRE: Pakistan end T20 World Cup campaign with victory against Ireland

PAK vs IRE: Pakistan opt to bowl first in dead-rubber T20 World Cup match

LAUDERHILL, JUN 17: Pakistan ended their T20 World Cup campaign with victory against Ireland in their last match of T20 World Cup 2024, played Sunday at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida.

The Irish struggled during Green Shirts’ run-chase but made inroads by picking up quick wickets later in the innings.

However, Babar Azam and Co chased down the small 107-run target against the opponents, who remained winless at the mega-tournament.

The low-scoring encounter was decided in the second last over with Shaheen Afridi taking Pakistan over the line and helping them end their disappointing T20 World Cup campaign with a six.

Chasing the target, Pakistan, despite a decent start, made things difficult for them as they kept on losing wickets. Saim Ayub (17 off 17), and Mohammad Rizwan (17 off 16) lost their wickets inside the first six overs.

Pakistan’s middle-order failed once again as Fakhar Zaman (5), Usman Khan (2), Shadab Khan (0) and Imad Wasim (4) all failed to score in double digits.

Abbas Afridi gave Pakistan a breakthrough as he hit a six and a four during his 17-run innings which helped Babar Azam’s side come close to the target.

Skipper Babar Azam top-scored for the winning side with 32 runs.

Earlier in the first innings, a dominating display by the Pakistani bowlers ran over the Irish side as Shaheen, Mohammad Amir, and Wasim all starred with the ball.

Shaheen started the innings for Pakistan brilliantly as he removed Andrew Balbirnie and Lorcan Tucker in the first over, leaving Ireland 2-2.

Amir continued what Shaheen started and sent Irish skipper Paul Stirling back to the pavilion for just one run.

Pakistani bowlers continued their dominance and kept sending the opponents’ batters back to the pavilion. It looked like Ireland would be all out before even scoring 60 runs as a team but George Dockrell and Gareth Delany’s 44-run partnership helped them reach a decent total.

Delany top-scored for the struggling Irish side with his quick 19-ball 31 which included four boundaries. Joshua Little’s contributed 22 runs on 18 balls with three boundaries.

Ireland concluded their innings at 106/9 in 20 overs. For Pakistan, Shaheen and Imad bagged three wickets each, Amir got two while Haris Rauf managed to remove one Irish batter.

However, the victory made no difference as it was a dead-rubber match after elimination of both sides.

PM Shehbaz wishes prosperity and happiness to the Muslim Ummah on Eid-ul-Adha

PM Shehbaz wishes prosperity and happiness to the Muslim Ummah on Eid-ul-Adha

ISLAMABAD, JUN 16 /DNA/ – On the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, I extend heartiest felicitations to my countrymen and Muslims around the world.

Eid al-Adha commemorates the unwavering commitment and readiness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his beloved son Prophet Ismail without hesitation, as commanded by Almighty Allah. The day reminds us of the importance of sacrificing what is most dear to us in the way of Allah. It teaches us the value of selflessness and devotion to Allah.

The day also serves as an occasion to unite people and foster the bond of brotherhood and fraternity as well as to look after the less fortunate amongst us and make them part of our collective celebration.

Whilst our wish is for peace, prosperity and love to prevail all over the world during Eid ul-Adha, we are also watching with sadness and concern other ongoing conflicts and violence in many countries worldwide. We should not forget the sacrifices and sufferings of the people of Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir. On this Eid day, we pray for our Palestinian and Kashmiri brothers and sisters who are bravely facing brutal foreign occupation but remain steadfast in their struggle to achieve their right of self-determination.

May the spirit of Eid-ul-Adha, with its message of solidarity and unity, brings prosperity, success and happiness to the entire Muslim ummah.

China views Taiwan’s ‘elimination’ as national cause, President Lai Ching-te says

China views Taiwan’s ‘elimination’ as national cause

Taipei City, JUN 16: China views the annexation and “elimination” of Taiwan as its great national cause, Taiwan President Lai Ching-te said on Sunday, telling cadets at the military’s premier academy they must know their enemy and not give in to defeatism.

Lai has faced sustained personal attacks from China, which views Taiwan as its own territory, since assuming office last month, with Beijing calling him a “separatist”. China staged war games around Taiwan shortly after Lai’s inauguration.

Lai says only Taiwan’s people can decide their future and has repeatedly offered talks with Beijing but has been rebuffed.

Speaking in Kaohsiung in the south of the island on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Whampoa Military Academy, Lai said today’s cadets must recognise the challenges of the “new era”.

“The biggest challenge is to face the powerful rise of China, [which is] destroying the status quo in the Taiwan Strait and regards Taiwan’s annexation and the elimination of the Republic of China as the great rejuvenating cause of its people,” he said, using Taiwan’s formal name.

China’s Taiwan Affairs Office did not answer calls on Sunday seeking comments about Lai’s remarks.

Wang Huning, the fourth-ranked leader in China’s ruling Communist Party, told a Saturday forum in China about relations with Taiwan that “reunification is a historical necessity for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation”, vowing to “smash any separatist plots”.

Lai, at the event attended by senior military officials and also the top US diplomat in Kaohsiung Neil Gibson, said the cadets must defend Taiwan against being annexed by China and that the island’s future can only be decided by its people.

“We really must be able to distinguish between ourselves and our enemies and between friend and foe, and absolutely cannot accept the defeatism of ‘the first battle is the last battle’,” Lai said, referring to a theory that Taiwan could collapse as soon as China launched any attack.

The academy was founded in China’s Guangzhou — then known in English as Canton — in 1924, more than a decade after the establishment of the Republic of China, which overthrew the last emperor.

Set up with the help of the Soviet Union to give China a professional military loyal to the nascent state, it moved to Nanjing, Chengdu and finally, Kaohsiung, after the defeated Republican government fled to the island in 1949 at the end of a civil war won by Mao Zedong and his communist forces.

China says any move by Taiwan to declare formal independence would be grounds to attack the island. The government in Taipei says Taiwan is already an independent country, the Republic of China, and that it does not plan to change that.

During the telephone conversation, the two leaders reviewed recent developments in bilateral relations, especially in the domain of trade, defence and energy. They expressed satisfaction on the positive trajectory of relations and agreed to continue working closely to further strengthen bilateral ties to match the political goodwill that exists between both countries.

In addition, they also discussed ways to deal with common challenges, especially climate change. The Prime Minister congratulated Azerbaijan for hosting the COP29 in Baku later this year and thanked President Aliyev for extending a personal invitation to him to participate in the event.

Both leaders reaffirmed that Pakistan and Azerbaijan would continue to support each other at multilateral forums including at the United Nations, OIC and ECO. The leaders particularly appreciated the firm and consistent support that both countries extend to each other on their respective core issues.

The Prime Minister also reiterated his warm and cordial invitation to President Aliyev to undertake an official visit to Pakistan soon. President Aliyev confirmed that he would visit Pakistan at an early date.

PM unveils reforms agenda of economic revival; says country on course of progress

PM unveils reforms agenda of economic revival

ISLAMABAD, JUN 15 /DNA/ – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday highlighting his government’s achievements during the first 100 days, spelled out his five-year agenda of economics stability and public welfare marking the tough decisions of abolishing corrupt or loss-making ministries and departments, widening tax net and doing away with red tapism to achieve Quaid’s Pakistan.

The prime minister, in his maiden address to the nation, said that the government’s prudent economic policies had resulted in reduced inflation from 38 percent to 12 percent, interest rate from 22 percent to 20 percent and repeated reduction in oil prices with the latest one on Friday – Rs10.5 per litre reduction in petrol and Rs 2.5 per litre in diesel prices.

“We have defined the future course of action and we will pursue it with utmost honesty and strictness. We will spend every saved penny on public welfare… We will eliminate red tapism… This journey is not only difficult and long but also demands sacrifice from the government authorities as well as the elite,” he said in his televised address.

He said the country’s economic situation in April 2022, when the PDM government took the charge, was in worst condition and the country was on the brink of default. PM Shehbaz Sharif pointed out that the PDM government under the leadership of the allied party heads including Muhammad Nawaz Sharif took tough decision and saved the country from falling into default at the cost of their political gains.

“As a result of our performance of 16 months in the previous tenure and 100 days in current tenure, today, Pakistan is slowly coming out of the crisis and moving towards stability and development,” he added.

He said the journey of the economic stability and prosperity was not so easy while the people were looking toward the government for immediate relief.

Due to the government’s pro-people policies, he said the inflation hit people will get further relief in near future, he said.

“Similarly, the 22 percent interest rate has now come down to 20 percent that would help reducing the interest burden on the country’s debts and further promote the domestic investment in the country.”

He advised the nation to get united and play role for the country’s development and prosperity adding that it should also show a sense of sacrifice and adopt austerity measures in their lifestyles.

PM Shehbaz Sharif cited the Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD) as an example of a government department plagued by corruption, which had a devastating impact on the country’s economy. He revealed that a staggering 50% of funds worth over a hundred billions of rupees allocated to development projects are lost to corruption within this department.

“I have decided that those ministries and departments which had become a hub of corruption must have to be eliminated,” he said adding that in this regard a ministerial committee had also been formed.

He expressed his commitment to take solid decisions in one and a half month-time. “You will see a big change in this regard in less than two months,” he added.

Recently, he said he visited China where the agreements amounting to billions of dollars were signed. Similarly he said, the UAE government had also committed to invest at least $10 billion in various Pakistan’s sectors.

The prime minister told that the government had also chalked out a comprehensive strategy to materialize the committed foreign investment in Pakistan’s various sectors including mines&minerals, agriculture, information technology and others under Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).

“But before that we have to create such an environment that we should ensure the domestic investment. We have the best  financial experts, businessmen, traders and industrialists who could boost the domestic investment and play role in the country’s development and prosperity,” he said.

He informed that the government was in progress to fully digitize the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) system. The digitization of the FBR will help boosting the tax collection and reducing the departmental corruption,” he added.

He said the incapable and corrupt elements in FBR had been side lined while the efficient and honest officers were being encouraged to increase the FBR’s efficiency and boost revenue collection which had already shown a significant increase of record 30% this year as compared to the last year.

The prime minister hoped that “if we succeed in implementing the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme and achieve the targets set in the recent budget for upcoming fiscal year 2024-25, this will be the country’s last IMF programme and will leave our neighbors far behind in this race of development and economic growth.”

He said yesterday, the government had also approved a massive reduction of electricity tariff for the industrial sector across the country which was expected to provide relief of over Rs 200 billion to the industry. “It will help bring down the manufacturing cost of the goods making them competitive in the global market.”

He said the business community had expressed satisfaction over the budget announced by the federal government for the year 2024-25.  He also vowed to minimize the gap between rich and poor, saying that without it the country cannot developed.

In May 2024, he said the overseas Pakistanis had dispatched over $3 billions of remittances which reflected their trust on the incumbent government.

The prime minister said the government had established a Pakistan Endowment Fund under which the deserving children and students especially from remote areas of the country would be given free education.

He told that the government had embarked upon its five-year national development plan under which tough decisions would be implemented to bring the country out of economic crisis and put it on the path of prosperity.

The government, he said will no more construct industries, nor it will do any business. “We will promote the private sector, facilitate them, and support them so that the private sector could play its due role in the country’s development.”

He emphasized that the journey of development was not an easy task as there were several elements creating hurdles. However, he believed that this time no such elements would succeed in creating hurdles in the country’s journey of development.

He resolved that he would not take any pressure and would take every tough decision that would be in the larger interest of the country.

He also sought the nation’s support and guidance in implementing the tough decision taken by the government.

Meanwhile, speaking on the Israel’s aggression in Gaza, the prime minister strongly condemned the Israel’s brutality in Gaza where over 40,000 innocent Palestinians including thousands of children had been martyred.

Additionally, he also urged for an immediate end to the atrocities perpetrated by the occupying forces in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir against the innocent Kashmiri people.=DNA
