WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump said on Monday that US intervention prevented a “bad nuclear war” between Pakistan and India, after the South Asian rivals agreed a ceasefire following a series of clashes.

“We stopped a nuclear conflict. I think it could have been a bad nuclear war, millions of people could have been killed. So I’m very proud of that,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

Trump also said the United States is ready to help Pakistan and India in the wake of a ceasefire agreement that he says his administration helped broker.

Trade is a big reason why they stopped fighting, he said at an event at the White House.

The military has name the clashes with India from April 22 to May 10 as “Battle of Truth” and released details

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has officially declared the conclusion of its military counter-offensive, Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, marking a significant phase in the recent escalation with India. The operation, conducted in response to Indian military provocations, targeted numerous Indian military installations between May 6 and May 10, as confirmed by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The ISPR disclosed that Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos was a carefully calibrated response aimed at deterring further aggression and reasserting Pakistan’s strategic capabilities. The strikes, described as precise and proportionate, were carried out across multiple sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) and beyond, signaling Pakistan’s resolve to protect its sovereignty.

Furthermore, the Pakistani military has termed the entire period of hostilities from April 22 to May 10 as the “Battle of Truth.” This naming, according to official statements, symbolizes Pakistan’s defensive posture, moral clarity, and commitment to exposing what it calls “India’s destabilizing agenda in the region.”

The details released by the ISPR highlight the scale and coordination involved in the operation. According to the military, the counterstrikes inflicted significant material damage on Indian military positions while avoiding civilian areas—a reflection of Pakistan’s stated intent to avoid unnecessary escalation.

The government has lauded the armed forces for their professionalism and preparedness during the operation. Prime Minister and senior defense officials have reiterated Pakistan’s preference for peace but emphasized that any threat to national security will be met with firm resistance.

The conclusion of Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos marks a pause in the latest round of tensions, though both nations remain on high alert. Regional observers have urged restraint and renewed diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation. The international community is closely monitoring developments, calling for de-escalation and dialogue.

Virat Kohli follows Rohit into Test retirement

Virat Kohli follows Rohit into Test retirement

NEW DELHI, MAY 12: Indian batsman Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on Monday, bringing down the curtain on a sparkling career in the longest format just days after captain Rohit Sharma did the same.

Kohli, who made his debut in 2011 and scored 30 centuries and 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85 over 123 tests, is expected to remain available for one-day internationals.

The 36-year-old quit Twenty20 Internationals immediately after India won their second 20-overs World Cup trophy in the West Indies last year.

“It’s been 14 years since I first wore the baggy blue in Test cricket. Honestly, I never imagined the journey this format would take me on,” Kohli posted on Instagram.

“It’s tested me, shaped me, and taught me lessons I’ll carry for life.”

“There’s something deeply personal about playing in whites. The quiet grind, the long days, the small moments that no one sees but that stay with you forever.”

In a post on X, the Indian Cricket Board, BCCI, announced the farewell of the former captain, saying that “His contributions to #TeamIndia will forever be cherished!”

While Kohli’s final Test wrapped up a 3-1 Test series defeat by Australia in January that saw India relinquish the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in a decade, he will be remembered most for his spell as captain between 2014-2022.

Kohli won 40 of his 68 tests in charge of India to become the country’s most successful skipper in the format and sits fourth in the list of captains with the most Test victories.

Only Graeme Smith (53), Ricky Ponting (48) and Steve Waugh (41) won more tests as captains.

India suffered only 17 defeats with Kohli at the helm as he guided the side to the final of the inaugural World Test Championship in 2021, where they lost to New Zealand.

He was also part of the team that lost the second World Test Championship final to Australia in 2023.

“I’m walking away with a heart full of gratitude — for the game, for the people I shared the field with, and for every single person who made me feel seen along the way,” he added.

“I’ll always look back at my Test career with a smile.”

India’s next Test assignment is a five-match series in England from June 20.

ISLAMABAD, MAY 12 /DNA/ – Amb. Irfan Neziroglu, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkiye, called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif this evening.

During their warm and cordial meeting, the Prime Minister expressed his profound gratitude to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for standing resolutely with Pakistan during the recent tensions in South Asia. Through his steadfast support, President Erdogan had demonstrated, once again, his love and affection for the people of Pakistan, the Prime Minister pointed out.

The Prime Minister also thanked the brotherly people of Turkiye, who stood firmly behind their Pakistani brethren during these challenging days, thus adding a new and glorious chapter in the history of Pakistan-Turkiye fraternal ties.

While paying rich tribute to the valiant Armed Forces of Pakistan, who out-maneuvered the enemy and dealt a crushing blow to its nefarious designs through the successful conduct of “Operation Bunyan un Marsoos”, the Prime Minister stated that the entire nation was thankful to the Almighty on this historic victory. He reaffirmed that Pakistan had always desired peace in South Asia but would never accept any violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity. It was in this spirit that Pakistan had agreed to accept the ceasefire understanding with India, he said.

On the bilateral front, the Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction at the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Turkiye brotherly ties, that were moving at a fast pace since the historic visit of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Islamabad in February this year. Recalling his visit to Ankara in April, the Prime Minister stressed upon the need to ensure timely implementation of all the important decisions taken during the high-level meetings between both countries. In this regard, he said the Joint Commission at the level of Foreign Ministers of the two countries may be convened as soon as possible.

The Turkish Ambassador congratulated the Prime Minister and the entire Pakistani nation on its military and diplomatic success. He said the people of Turkiye were delighted at Pakistan’s achievements and lauded its efforts and commitment for peace in South Asia. He said President Erdogan was keen to further strengthen the strong fraternal ties between the two countries in every sphere and high level institutional engagements would continue in this regard.

Pakistan-India DGMOs hold contact after postponement: Indian media

Pakistan-India DGMOs hold contact

New Delhi, MAY 12: The Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of Pakistan and India held a much-anticipated contact on Monday after an earlier postponement, according to Indian media reports.

The scheduled communication between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of Pakistan and India was postponed, which was scheduled at 11 am, a news agency reported on Monday.

According to the report, DGMO-level contact, initially expected earlier today, is now likely to take place later this evening.

No official reason was provided for the delay.

India Prime Minister Modi chaired high-level meeting before Pakistan and India DGMOs sit for truce talks.

Pakistan Army DGMO was scheduled to talk to Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, DGMO of the Indian Army, as per the ceasefire understanding between the two countries, after US President Donald Trump announced the end of border tension.

The development comes days after Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Ahmed Sharif in a press conference reaffirmed that Pakistan remains open to military-to-military channels of communication with India — including DGMO-level talks — was a routine practice to maintain stability along the Line of Control (LoC) and avoid escalation.

A fragile ceasefire between India and Pakistan, brokered after a series of high-level military exchanges, was holding as of Monday noon, with communication between the two nations’ Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) expected later in the day, officials confirmed.

Military hotlines between the two nations have since been reactivated to manage any future incidents.

In a recent press briefing, DG ISPR Major General Ahmed Sharif stated that Pakistan was committed to using military-to-military communication channels, such as DGMO talks and emphasized the need for restraint and dialogue amid high tensions.

The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, fearing the potential for renewed conflict in the absence of a sustained diplomatic breakthrough.

The actor made powerful statements about religious teachings, asserting that Islam fundamentally does not promote terrorism. He explicitly stated that neither the Quran nor Islamic teachings permit the killing of innocent people.

The video’s resurfacing comes in the context of recent India-Pakistan tensions, where both countries had experienced heightened military confrontations followed by a ceasefire. Interestingly, Khan had previously shared a thanksgiving message on Instagram after the ceasefire, which was subsequently deleted.

Khan’s remarks highlight the complexity of geopolitical tensions and the need for nuanced understanding, particularly in situations involving cross-border conflicts and terrorism allegations.

The viral video serves as a reminder of the importance of measured responses and avoiding blanket accusations against entire nations or religious communities in times of conflict.
