‘3 Bahadur: The Revenge of Baba Balaam’ becomes Pakistan’s highest grossing animated film

The animated feature film “3 Bahadur: The Revenge of Baba Balaam”, directed by Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, became the highest grossing film in the country’s history.Oscar-winner Sharmeen Obaid posted a tweet on her Twitter account, making the revelation.The movie is the second part of the series ‘3 Bahadur’. The first part, set in a fictional town, told the story of three school going children who stand up to Baba Balaam, his disciple Mangu and their hired thugs.

Sharmeen Obaid will be the first-ever artist to co-chair World Economic Forum

Pakistan’s Academy Award-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is about to become the first ever artist to co-chair the World Economic Forum.A Monday statement from Chinoy’s office says she will also speak at the 47th World Economic Forum‘s annual three-day meeting starting January 17 in Davos, Switzerland. It says Chinoy regards it as a great honour to represent both the artistic community and her country.Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has also left to take part in the meetings, which will convene 2,500 participants from 100 countries. Other speakers include Al Gore, Jamie Oliver and Karan Johar.

Turkey takes key step to expanding Erdogan powers

ISTANBUL: Turkey was a key step closer on Monday to dramatically expanding the powers of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after parliament approved, on first reading, a bill critics fear will lead to one-man rule.The parliament backed the two final sections of the 18-article new constitution late on Sunday after a marathon week of debating that began on Jan 9 and included sessions that often lasted late into the night.The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) mustered the necessary 330 or more votes — a three-fifths majority — needed to adopt the constitutional change and send it to a referendum for final approval.

India building world’s biggest cricket stadium

AHMEDABAD, JAN 17 –  India has started building the world´s biggest cricket stadium that will accommodate 110,000 spectators and cost around $100 million.Since the capacity of Kolkata´s Eden Gardens was reduced as part of a major rebuilding project, Melbourne Cricket Ground has held the title of the sport´s largest stadium with seating for around 100,000.But speaking at a ground-breaking ceremony on Monday in India´s western Gujarat state, officials said a new stadium would be able to welcome 110,000 people.

The plea bargain law of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is not something new as one gets an impression from the media reports and reaction of rank and file as well as political parties,emanating from the plea bargain settlement of NAB with the ex Balochistan Secretary Finance,  Mushtaq Raisani who has offered to pay Rs 2 billion. Raisani case snatched public attention when over 700 million rupees cash was recovered from his house. Corruption and politics unfortunately go hand in hand in Pakistan. More aptly said by the renowned British journalist Emma Duncan in her book Breaking the Curfew that Pakistan is a country where corruption is systematic and has deeply penetrated into higher echelons of the society.
