Mr. Sherali Jononov is a career diplomat. Ever since his appointment as Ambassador to Pakistan, he has undertaken a number of steps to further strengthen relations between Tajikistan and Pakistan. The construction of Tajik Embassy building inside the diplomatic enclave has already started, which speaks volumes for the close relationship between the two brotherly countries. Mr. Jononov is keen in further expanding and diversifying bilateral relations. His country is especially keen to help Pakistan in the energy sector. Here are excerpts from his interview for readers’ interest.

The President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon delivered the following message on the occasion of SCO summit. In his speech the Tajik president dilated upon various aspects of regional and global issues and gave a roadmap to grapple with those issues. Here are excerpts from his speech. It has passed exactly one year since our last Summit. During this short period there have been a lot of changes in the world. Some changes have cardinal character and affect the prevailing world order as a whole. They create new problems, the solutions of which require collective exploration and efforts, including in the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
The Peshawar tragedy: some musings
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharf in his televised address to the nation on the midnight of December 24 unfurled 20-point national security plan, formulated in consultation with all mainstream political parties of the country. The plan was chalked out in the wake of Peshawar tragedy in which about 145 precious lives were lost as a result of the dastardly terror attack. Undoubtedly, the Peshawar incident proved a binding factor that brought together otherwise belligerent political parties such as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and PML-N. PTI received fulsome accolades from all and sundry for shelving its differences with the government and sitting on the table along with other political parties in order to seek a “permanent” and ‘effective’ solution to the menace of terrorism and extremism.

Lead is a very important and common contaminant in environment and due to its persistent nature poses serious threats to health. Even a small concentration is considered to be toxic and is a threat for human health when its quantity in soil exceeds 400-500mg/kg (US-EPA). Lead is second on the list of the “Top Twenty Hazardous Substances from the 2003 Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) Priority List of Hazardous Substances.

In our everyday life, we are exposed to a number of toxins present in our environment without even realizing it. Toxins are basically the poisonous substances produced by organisms. One of the most poisonous and life threatening toxic substances known is the botulinum toxin. It is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov).It acts at peripheral cholinergic synapses that blocks the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine.

On 3rd August 1983, General officer commanding(GOC) of Indian army 15th corps General P.N Hoon briefed prime minister Indira Gandhi and unequivocally told her that the strategic importance of Siachen glacier is vivid for Indian defense policy and Pakistani designs to capture the 12 month snow bound glacier is about to be materialized. He articulated well and proper while stating that Indian army must mobilize in advance and with immediate effect to save Leh . Right after this depiction and deduction uttered by Gen. Hoon to his prime minister, Pakistan out of sheer curiosity tested waters on 21st August 1983 when a protest note from northern sector Commander of Pakistan army was handed over to his counterpart in Kargil sector stating that, the line of control moves north-east from point NJ-9842 and joins the K.K (karakoram pass) while all the area West of this extended line belongs to Pakistan. This bolt from the blue cemented Gen. Hoon conviction that Pakistan if not taken care of, would initiate an adventure and advance into the Siachin glacier.
Religious vigilantism in Pakistan: Equal vulnerability

The politics over religion is not a new phenomenon in Pakistan and vigilantism motivated by religion is a common practice. Over the last few years, several dozen people have been charged with blasphemy in Pakistan and there is an international hue and cry regarding cultural diversity under threat. What is being presented, is that Pakistan considers the minority sects as those worthy of nothing. Minorities Rights Group International, a watchdog organization, has ranked Pakistan on the top in the list of countries which are a threat to minorities since 2007.In the following some examples, we will try to find out if these accusations are true or merely a plot to defame Pakistan as a threat to minorities. Is the abuse of blasphemy law only threating the non-Muslims? Let’s find out in the following examples:
