Smartphones can be used as a pocket doctor

FEB 19, (DNA) – Smartphones will soon become mobile laboratories which can monitor bone density, calculate red blood cell levels and even predict if an asthma attack is imminent.Scientists are repurposing the technology which already exists within phones, such as accelerometers, camera flashes and microphones to use as medical tools.Professor Shwetak Patel, of the University of Washington is currently devising an app which can detect red blood cell levels simply by placing a finger over the camera and flash, so that a bright beam of light shines through the skin.

Heart attack risk rises in winter, dips in summer

ISLAMABAD, FEB 18, (DNA) -The risk of getting a heart attack is highest in winter and lowest in summer, according to latest research based on analysis of more than 100,000 patients in seven European countries. The researchers found that levels of several cardiovascular risk factors (such as blood pressure, waist circumference and total cholesterol) were higher in winter (January to February) and lower in summer (June to August) compared to the annual average, Science Daily reported.

Mawra Hocane determined to complete her education in LLB

LAHORE, FEB 18, (DNA) –  Stunning actress Mawra Hocane has decided to resume her LLB education which she discontinued due to busy schedule in showbiz industry.The actress has said she feels weak when she fails to complete any task she has started. She said she has never taken  education as a way for livelihood.Completing my education would give me more spark in my career, she added. While talking exclusively to Daily Dunya, Shabnam said that Bushra Ansari is writing a drama in Bangali background. The drama will see Shabnam in the role of a rich Bengali woman whereas Bushra will feature as a poor woman. Shabnam is quite fond of Bushra Ansari and is all praises for her acting talent and versatility. Sources reveal that Shabnam will stay in Pakistan for a month is in hopes of working in a TV drama.She has also contacted many producers in this regard as she is prioritizing dramas over films.=DNA

Norwegian embassy shifted to Serena Business Complex

ISLAMABAD, FEB 16(DNA) – The Norwegian embassy in Pakistan has shifted its premises from Sector F 6/2 to Serena Business Complex. To formally inaugurate the new premises the Norwegian ambassador, Tore Nedrebo hosted a reception on Thursday.

In his brief speech the Norwegian ambassador unfurled details of the decision to move embassy to the new location adding the decision was taken primarily on security grounds.

Madonna granted permission to adopt twins from Malawi

MALAWI, FEB 08, (DNA) – Malawi’s High Court on Tuesday granted Madonna permission to adopt twins from the Southern African country, a judiciary spokesman said.The U.S. singer has previously adopted two children from Malawi, stirring anger among some Malawians who accused the government of allowing her to skirt laws that ban non-residents from adopting.Madonna was inside the courtroom when the approval ruling was delivered, judiciary spokesman Mlenga Mvula said. Reuters could not reach representatives for Madonna for comment.”Madonna has demostrated over the years that she has passion for Malawi and her children and therefore the court was satisfied and could not stop the adoption of the twins,” Titus Mvalo, a lawyer for Madonna in Malawi.
