ISLAMABAD, SEPT 14 (DNA) – Senators on Wednesday questioned the salary, allowances and perks being enjoyed by Pakistan State Oil (PSO) Managing Director Imranul Haque. During the question hour, senators Jahanzeb Jamaldini, Saeed Mandokhel, Colonel (Retired) Tahir Hussain Mashhadi and Sirajul Haq said the PSO MD was cumulatively getting Rs6 million per month as salary, allowances and other fringe benefits. Appraising the house, State Minister for Petroleum Jam Kamal said Haque was appointed the PSO managing director by following due procedure.“Advertisement was published for the vacant position (of PSO MD) and interviews of various candidates were conducted,” he said.

More evidence links exercise to lower stroke risk
CALIFORNIA, SEPT 08 (DNA) – Women who consistently get the minimum recommended amount of exercise for a healthy heart may be less likely to have a stroke than their counterparts whose exercise habits shift over time, a recent U.S. study suggests. Researchers examined data on more than 61,000 women in the California Teachers Study who reported their exercise habits at two points in time, once from 1995 to 1996 and again from 2005 to 2006. The women were current and retired teachers when the study began. Overall, 987 women had a stroke by the end of the study period.
FBR seals houses of actresses Noor and Saba Qamar
ISLAMABAD, SEPT 08 (DNA) – Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has sealed houses of actresses Saba Qamar and Noor as the celebrities failed to pay their taxes. According to FBR spokesperson, the board sent numerous notices to the duo but they both did not send replies forcing the board to seal their houses. FBR record says that Noor has defaulted on tax worth Rs1.5 million, while Saba Qamar has defaulted on tax worth Rs3.4 million.Saba Qamar, however, has denied receiving any notice.
India’s army chief says China ‘testing limits’ after stand-off
NEW DELHI, SEPT 07 (DNA) – India’s army chief has said his country must be prepared for war and accused China of “testing our limits”, days after the nuclear-armed neighbours ended one of their worst border stand-offs in decades. General Bipin Rawat said India could not afford to be complacent and should be prepared for the possibility of an all-out war. “As far as our northern adversary is concerned, flexing of muscles has started,” Rawat said late Wednesday at a Delhi-based think-tank, in reference to China. “The salami slicing, taking over territory in a very gradual manner… testing our limits of threshold is something we have to be wary about and remain prepared for situations which could gradually emerge into conflict.”
Better trade facilitation to reduce trade costs in Asia by up to 9pc annually: ADB
ISLAMABAD, SEPT 05 (DNA) – Improved trade facilitation the simplification, modernisation, and harmonisation of export and import processes – can reduce trade costs by up to 9 per cent in Asia and the Pacific, according to a new joint report by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) launched Tuesday on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Trade Facilitation Forum in Yogyakarta.
Tajikistan hosts counter terrorism summit
DUSHANBE, SEPT 05 (DNA) – Meeting of Quadrilateral Counter Terrorism Coordination Mechanism (QCCM) held at Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The meeting was attended by senior military leadership of member countries i.e. Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa Pakistan, Gen Li Zuocheng China, General Sobirzoda Imomali Abdurrahim Tajikistan and General Sharif Yaftali Afghanistan. All four leaders welcomed the QCCM initiative and expressed hope that an inclusive and cooperative regional approach will prove best for eradication of terrorism.
