JHELUM (DNA) – At least eight passengers were burnt alive and several other were wounded when a van caught fire at the Grand Trank (GT) Road near Tarkai Toll Plaza in Jhelum on Sunday night.Three of the passengers managed to jump out of the burning van to save their lives. The ill-fated van was going to Rawalpindi from Lahore when it caught fire due to short-circuit.Rescue teams reached the spot and brought the fire under control and shifted the injured to District Headquarters Hospital, Jhelum. Traffic remained suspended at the GT road after the accident which created problems for other people.
Ashraf Ghani telephones PM Imran, discusses peace process, regional connectivity

Chinese embassy opens visa center in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD, May 05 (DNA): In order to further facilitate people to people exchanges between China and Pakistan and provide applicants with more comfortable environment and more efficient services, the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan will entrust Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Islamabad (“Visa Center”) to offer visa and attestation facilitation services since 6 May 2019, the embassy said on Sunday.
Committee of experts formed to put an end to moon sighting controversies: Fawad
ISLAMABAD: (DNA) – The government has set up a new committee that would determine moon sighting for key Islamic dates and months , said Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Sunday.The minister said in a Tweet that the five-member committee will comprise of science and technology experts from SUPARCO (Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission) and MET Office.

JIZZAKH, (DNA) – : The six-day Uzbekistan-Turkey-Pakistan Joint Military Exercise “Commonwealth Shield – 2019” ended at the Forish Training Camp in Jizzakh region, Uzbekistan.The Joint Military Exercise “Commonwealth Shield – 2019” began on April 22 and ended on April 27.“Representatives of the armed forces of Uzbekistan, Pakistan and Turkey conducted an area reconnaissance (on April 23). We discussed organizational issues for conducting special operations,” the press service of the Defense Ministry of Uzbekistan said.
Pakistan Army establishes free medical camp in District Awaran
AWARAN, (DNA) – A free medical treatment camp established by Pakistan Army in far flung area of Gishkor and Kooli in District Awaran, Balochistan.Specialist doctors including lady doctors provided medical care and free medicine to more than 3500 patients including women and children .100 eye surgeries were also performed besides important diagnosis test of ECG, ultrasound, hepatitis screening etc.Free ration packs were also distributed amongst 150 families.
Karachi University VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan passes away
KARACHI (DNA) – University of Karachi’s Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan on Saturday has passed away.He was suffering from cardiovascular disease and was admitted to a private hospital after he felt pain in his chest on Friday night. The educationist’s body will soon be sent to his residence from the hospital.Prof Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan received Pride of Performance Award in 2001 and Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2007.
