Biggest visa center of Asia to become operational in Karachi from Sept: UAE Envoy

KARACHI, JUL 19 (DNA) – Ambassador of United Arab Emirates (UAE) Hamad Obaid Alzaabi has informed that UAE Embassy will be opening a visa center in Karachi which will become operational in the first week of September 2019 while another visa center will also become functional in Islamabad in the first week of October 2019 which would provide all facilities here in Pakistan.

South Korea to be the first country to support WHO’s HIV project in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, JUL 19 (DNA) – The Government of the Republic of Korea has decided to extend humanitarian assistance of USD 100,000 in cash through the World Health Organization (WHO) to help respond to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Outbreak in Larkana district, Sindh province of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Japan wishes to see Pak athletes in Tokyo games: envoy

ISLAMABAD, JUL 19 (DNA) – Kuninori Matsuda, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, welcomed the President of Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), Lt Gen (R) Syed Arif Hasan.Ambassador Matsuda said that it was just one year prior to the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020 and that the President’s visit was very timely.Ambassador Matsuda also said, “I am looking forward to seeing Pakistan athletes being qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Games in coming months, and I would like to cooperate with Lt Gen (R) Hasan to promote further people-to-people interactions between Japan and Pakistan.”

The British Broadcasting Corporation on June 02, 2019 published a news report about Pakistan military’s operation in tribal areas giving an impression as if Pakistan Army were committing “atrocities” in the region. The report also accused the armed forces of Pakistan of ‘violating’ human rights and suppressing the voice of the local people. Pakistan Army came up with a matching response with complete facts and figures and later sent a detailed dossier to the BBC and the British regulator asking the organization to tender apology.

SHC grants seven-day bail to Miftah Ismail

KARACHI: (DNA) – The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday granted seven-day bail to former finance minister Miftah Ismail and former Pakistan State Oil (PSO) CEO Sheikh Imranul Haque.The duo had submitted a plea for pre-arrest bail earlier in the day.On July 18, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for his alleged involvement in a case pertaining to the award of liquefied natural gas (LNG) import contracts while arrest warrants have been issued for former finance minister Miftah in the same case.

France, Pakistan sign credit facility, grant agreements

ISLAMABAD, JUL 19 (DNA)- . Noor Ahmed, Secretary of Economic Affairs Division (EAD),  Marc Baréty, Ambassador of France, and Jacky AMPROU, Country Director of the French Agency for Development (AFD), signed the Credit Facility Agreement worth Euros 50 million and the Grant Agreement worth 0.2 million Euros to finance the Rehabilitation of Chitral and Dargai Hydropower Plants.

PIA set to kick off direct flights to US

KARACHI: (DNA) – Amid a marked improvement in the relationship between Pakistan and the US, ahead of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to Washington next week, Islamabad has geared up to take direct flights to New York for the first time in the country’s history.“US security officials visited the Islamabad airport and expressed concern over direct flights to the US, which has been addressed,” revealed Federal Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan at a press conference at the SQMS Auditorium, Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) headquarters on Thursday.

No CPEC document shared with IMF: govt

ISLAMABAD, (DNA) – The planning secretary informed a Senate panel on Thursday that the planning and finance ministries had not shared any document related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).Senator Sherry Rehman, the chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on CPEC, said the government’s statement was in contradiction to media reports which stated that the government had shared details of debt incurred on account of CPEC projects as well as other sensitive information with the IMF.

Met Office forecasts more rain in different parts of the country

LAHORE (DNA) – Pakistan Meteorological Department on Thursday predicted more rains in upper and central parts of the country during this week as monsoon currents are continuously penetrating in the country.According to Met office, rain-thundershower with windstorm is expected at isolated places in Islamabad, Kashmir and different cities of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the week.
