India has made a series of drastic, and in some cases unprecedented, moves in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir, which is administered by New Delhi but claimed by Pakistan.On Aug. 2, the state government of Jammu and Kashmir issued an extraordinary order. Citing terrorist threats, it ordered tourists and pilgrims to evacuate, and it shuttered schools.This came several days after New Delhi deployed thousands of new troops to the region. Then, on Aug. 4, officials in Kashmir cut off internet access and placed several prominent leaders under house arrest.

UK has ‘historic obligation’ to resolve Kashmir dispute: British MP

LONDON, (DNA) – British member of the parliament (MP) Ivan Lewis has urged the British government to mediate between Pakistan and India on the Kashmir dispute by terming it as “a historic obligation” on the country.In a letter addressed to United Kingdom Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, he said the region of Kashmir has been the epicenter of violence and territorial conflict for more than 70 years.He said at the time, the UK signed United Nations Security Council resolution 47, which demanded that the Kashmiri people were given right of self-determination through a free ,fair and impartial plebiscite.

Operations resume at Hong Kong airport after protests: authorities

HONK KONG: (DNA) = Operations resumed at Hong Kong airport on Tuesday morning, authorities said, with flights due to start departing and arriving a day after protests shut down the major travel hub.“We have resumed check-ins,” a spokesman for the airport told, confirming flights would be resuming within the next hour at one of the world´s busiest aviation hubs.The flight status board at the departures hall showed several flights listed as “boarding soon” with new take-off times listed for others.

India fails to persuade China over its unilateral actions in Occupied Kashmir

BEIJING, (DNA) – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday said Beijing was highly concerned over the current situation in Indian-occupied Kashmir.In meeting with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, who’s in China  on a three-day visit, Wang Yi said New Delhi’s move to end the constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir will change the status quo of the disputed area and result in a tense situation in the region.”China opposes any unilateral action that complicates the situation in the region,” he added.

Curfew continues even on Eid-ul-Azha in occupied Kashmir

Srinagar (DNA): In occupied Kashmir, unprecedented curfew and communication blackout continue on the 8th consecutive day, today (Monday) even on day of the great Muslim festival, Eidul Azha.The Indian government, on August 05, had snapped television, telephone and internet links to prevent demonstrations  against its decision of revoking Article 370 of the Indian Constitution that granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
