ISLAMABAD, SEPT 6 (DNA) – Ambassador of Democratic Republic of Korea Kim Thae Sop has said North Korea was keen to promote and expand relations with Pakistan.He said this on the occasion of 71st anniversary of founding of North Korea. Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry was the chief guest. A large number of diplomats including Chinese ambassador attended the reception.The North Korean Ambassador further said under the dynamic leadership of Korean leader his country was developing at a fast speed.
IRS holds roundtable with EU acting ambassador
ISLAMABAD, SEPT 6 (DNA) -: The Institute of Regional Studies held a roundtable with Ms. Anne Marchal, acting ambassador of the European Union Delegation in Pakistan on“EU’s Global Strategy” (EUGS) 2016 and its 2019 report on Looking Forward.Ms. Marchal’s power point presentation showed that EUGS set out the EU’s core interests and principles for engaging in the world, expressed in the “alphabetical soup” of a more connected, contested, and complex world.While EU’s strategy primarily focused on its immediate neighbourhood with migration as a key issue, EUGS expands the concept to security emanating from different geographic regions and focuses on preventive measures.

Woody Allen film given big stage at Deauville festival
DEAUVILLE (DNA) – Woody Allen’s new romantic comedy “A Rainy Day in New York” will open the American Film Festival in the French resort of Deauville on Friday, giving the film, whose release was cancelled in the US, a major European stage.Amazon, which had agreed to distribute the film in the United States, dropped it over allegations that the Oscar-winning director abused his daughter.But Bruno Barde, director of the Deauville festival, which was launched in 1975 as a celebration of American cinema, has praised the feature as a “very energetic, very funny film”.

PM Imran Khan briefs foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and UAE about Kashmir issue
ISLAMABAD, SEPT 04 (DNA) – Prime Minister Imran Khan received Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Adel Al Jubeir, Minister of State of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, for a joint call today.The main focus was on the situation arising from India’s illegal and unilateral actions in Indian occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IOJ&K).The Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s deep concern over the worsening human rights and humanitarian situation in IOJ&K because of the month-long complete lockdown and communications blackout in the occupied territory. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of immediate lifting of curfew, removal of restrictions on movement and communications, and respect for the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people.
ECC direct simple tax regime for non-resident enterprises
ISLAMABAD, SEPT 04 (DNA) – Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has approved separate proposals for simplification of tax regime for non-resident companies investing in the local debt market, revision of cess rate on tobacco for the year 2019-20 and payment of outstanding amount of Rs 5.85 billion as gas subsidy to the fertilizer industry.
