Britain assured full support to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, APR 2 (DNA) -: British High Commissioner Dr. Christian Turner has said that his Government fully supports the efforts of the Government of Pakistan to provide relief to its people and it is ready to provide any assistance, if required, in the form of aid through DFID.The High Commissioner assured that in the times of global crisis the British government stands with the people of Pakistan to further strengthen their already well established relationship.

UAE govt sends medical supplies to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, APR 2 (DNA) – To show solidarity and brotherhood with Pakistan the government of United Arab Emirates has sent first consignment of medical supplies to Pakistan to help government effectively deal with the deadly COVID 19 disease.The medical supplies arrived in Pakistan on Thursday and were immediately handed over the Pakistani authorities. The officials of UAE handed over medical supplies to Pakistani officials.It is learnt that the UAE is expected to send more supplies in the coming days. Pakistan and UAE are time tested friends and have proved this friendship during difficult times.

Pak Embassy helps distressed Pakistanis during coronavirus lockdown in France

PARIS, APR 2 (DNA) – The Embassy of Pakistan in Paris has launched a ration distribution campaign to help those Pakistanis who may face hardship due to coronavirus lockdown in France. This was stated by the Ambassador of Pakistan to France Mr. Moin ul Haque in a statement issued in Paris today. The Ambassador said that the Embassy in coordination with community associations and local philanthropist organizations will  distribute the essential food items to needy people.

Saudi minister tells Muslims to wait on making haj plans

RIYADH, APR 1 – Saudi Arabia is urging Muslims to wait before making plans to attend the annual haj pilgrimage until there is more clarity about the deadly coronavirus pandemic, the kingdom’s minister for haj and umrah said on Tuesday.Some 2.5 million pilgrims usually flock to the holiest sites of Islam in Mecca and Medina each year for the week-long ritual, which is a once-in-a-lifetime duty for every able-bodied Muslim and a major source of income for the kingdom.

Norway to contribute to new UN Fund to Fight Coronavirus

OSLO, APR 1 – ‘We are pleased that the UN acted so quickly on our proposal to establish a global fund to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Norway is providing a first contribution of NOK 150 million to enable the work of the fund to get under way as soon as possible. We urge other countries to contribute too,’ said Minister of Foreign Affairs Ine Eriksen Søreide.

FM Qureshi lauds Saudi Arabia on corona fight

ISLAMABAD, APR 1 (DNA) – Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a telephone conversation with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.Expressing deep condolences on the loss of life due to the outbreak of Covid-19, the Foreign Minister commended the steps taken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in arresting the spread of the virus. The Foreign Minister also briefed Prince Faisal bin Farhan on the measures being taken by Pakistan to contain coronavirus.

Today’s outlook: PM Khan summons National Coordination Committee on COVID-19

ISLAMABAD, APR 1 – Here are some of the news stories we are expecting to follow today (Wednesday):

  • Prime Minister Imran Khan will chair a National Coordination Committee to discuss strategies to counter the coronavirus in Pakistan. The committee will decide whether the countrywide lockdown will be extended or called off.
  • Funeral prayers for Jang Group publisher Mir Javedur Rahman, who passed away on Tuesday, will be held after Zuhr prayers. He will be buried in the Society graveyard in Karachi’s PECHS. Political leaders are expected to attend the funeral.
  • As of Wednesday, 2,025 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Pakistan while 26 have died of it. Around 65 people have recovered.
  • The lockdown in Sindh has entered its 10th day. NADRA and telecommunication companies haven’t yet provided the Sindh government with the data needed to locate and help poor families.
  • The lockdown has been intensified across Punjab. The provincial government has directed that all shops open by 9am and close by 5pm. The order doesn’t apply to medical stores.
  • The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has imposed a ban on congregational prayers of more than five people.
  • ICYMI: Sindh now has its first drive-thru coronavirus testing facility in Karachi.It has been set up at the parking area of Bagh Ibne Qasim near the Bahria Icon Tower. Click here to read the full story.

GUAM honors victims of March 31 genocide of Azerbaijanis

BAKU, MAR 31 – The Organization for Democracy and Economic Development (GUAM) expressed  solidarity with Azerbaijan in honoring the memory of the victims of the March 31 genocide, said the organization.GUAM Secretariat condemned any act of genocide and stands in solidarity with Azerbaijan on commemorating the victims of the bloody massacre perpetrated by Armenians against Azerbaijanis in March 1918.
