Shibli unveils Marconi Transmitter Memorial at Radio Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, AUG 14 (DNA) – Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz has unveiled Marconi Transmitter Memorial as part of the Independence Day celebrations at National Broadcasting House (Radio Pakistan), Islamabad on Thursday.

This antique transmitter was installed at Manawan Lahore in 1937, broadcast creation of Pakistan on the midnight falling between August 13 and 14, 1947.

At a ceremony, the announcements of creation of Pakistan in English by Zahur Azar and in Urdu by Mustafa Ali Hamdani “Talu-e-Subh-e-Azadi” were played in which they gave the news to millions across the Subcontinent that a new Muslim state had born.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz says Radio Pakistan is voice of the nation and played historic role in commanding the information flow with easy access all over the world since the Independence Day. He said the government is committed to restore the past glory of Radio Pakistan. He said Radio Pakistan is a historical and vital asset of the country.

The Information Minister said latest technology will be adopted to further enhance the outreach of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (Radio Pakistan). He said Radio Pakistan deserves importance and we have to give it.

He said that Nations that do not protect their historical heritage, forget their values or leave their heritage behind will never find their rightful place in the world and Radio Pakistan is the only institution that representing Pakistani values and culture. He reassured his support and all possible cooperation to Director General Radio Pakistan Ambreen Jan for the development of this institution and also thanked the entire team of Radio Pakistan who worked tirelessly day and night to bring this work to fruition.

Speaking on the occasion, Director General Ambreen Jan said Radio Pakistan is moving towards its evolution with its full scope, embracing the historical traditions and covering the distances of modern requirements.

She told that on Independence Day 1947, Radio Pakistan started its journey with three stations but today it is the largest broadcaster in the country with 32 AM stations, 57 FM stations, 23 medium-wave and one shortwave transmitter. = DNA

US looks forward to boosting ties with Pakistan: Pompeo

WASHINGTON, AUG 14 (DNA) – The United States looks forward to strengthening its partnership with Pakistan, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said as he greeted the Pakistani people on the occasion of their 74th Independence Day.

“On behalf of the Government of the United States of America and the American people, I extend greetings and best wishes to the people of Pakistan as you celebrate your Independence Day,” Pompeo said in a message released Friday.

For more than 70 years, the US and Pakistan have worked together on issues of “critical importance,” he said.

“Last year, despite many challenges, we have made notable progress in advancing the Afghan peace process, and our health and economic cooperation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic is saving lives,” Pompeo said.

“The United States looks forward to strengthening our bilateral partnership by expanding US-Pakistan trade and working together to protect fundamental freedoms in the years to come,” he added. = DNA

Pakistan navy celebrates 74th anniversary of Pakistan

Islamabad, 14 Aug: An inspiring Change of Guard ceremony was held at mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah celebrating 73rd independence anniversary of Pakistan. Smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Naval Academy cadets, arrayed meticulously in ceremonial dresses assumed ceremonial guard duties at Mazar-e-Quaid with effervescent spirit and enthusiasm to mark the Independence Day celebrations.

Commandant Pakistan Naval Academy, Commodore Mushtaq Ahmed graced the occasion as Chief Guest and reviewed the guard. The Chief Guest and smartly turned out cadets of Pakistan Navy presented Qaumi Salam to the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The ceremonial Guard mounting was followed by laying of floral wreath at the Mazar-e-Quaid by the Chief Guest on behalf of Chief of the Naval Staff, officers and men of Pakistan Navy. Later, the Chief Guest offered Fateha and recorded his remarks in the visitor book paying rich tribute to our beloved Quaid.

Earlier, the day dawned with Gun Salutes and special prayers were offered in all mosques in naval area for solidarity and progress of the country. Pakistan Navy Ships and Establishments were illuminated in Navy’s traditional manner. Flag hoisting ceremonies were held at Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Coastal Area at various Units of Pakistan Navy.

Numerous Independence Day events were held by Pakistan Navy units/ establishments including singing of national anthem at daybreak and graceful display of Pakistan Navy Band. Boat rallies at Gwadar and Creeks area as well as various sports events were also a part of day long celebrations. Besides, Pakistan Navy arranged tree plantation campaign in collaboration with IUCN Pakistan and Sindh Govt officials at Bin Qasim area. The ceremony was graced by Commander Coast, Vice Admiral Faisal Rasool Lodhi as Chief Guest. Under tree plantation campaign over 150,000 plants will be grown at an area of 100 acres land to provide a sound environment to the future generations.

On the occasion of Pakistan Day, the President of Pakistan has approved military & civil awards to Officers, CPOs/ Sailors and Civilians of Pakistan Navy.  The awards include 03 Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military), 14 Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military), 14 Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Military), 01 Sitara-e-Basalat and 09 Tamgha-e-Basalat. In addition, 02 awards ofImtiazi Sanad and 65 awards of Tamgha-e-Khidmat (Military) have been approved upon Master Chief Petty Officers, Chief Petty Officers and Sailors. Letter of Commendation from Chief of the Naval Staff has been approvedfor 104 Officers, Master Chief Petty Officers, Chief Petty Officers/ Sailors and civilians.

RCCI holds flag hoisting ceremony to mark Independence day

RAWALPINDI, AUG 14 (DNA) – A national flag hoisting ceremony was held here at the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) to mark the 74th Independence Day of Pakistan.

Chairman Punjab Board of Investment (BOI) Sardar Tanveer Ilyas and Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Anwar-ul-Haq were the chief guests on the occasion.

RCCI President Saboor Malik, group leader Sohail Altaf, representatives from the trade associations, Senior Vice President Nosherwan Khalil Khan, Vice President Hamza Sarosh, former presidents, members of the executive committee and a large number of traders attended the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman BOI said that the Punjab government and Punjab Investment Board despite the Corona epidemic, fruit and vegetable exports have increased. Economic indicators are turning positive. We will provide all kinds of help and relief for the promotion of business.

The role of Chamber of Commerce Rawalpindi has been significant during lock-down. Referring to Independence Day, he said that freedom is a blessing.

Deputy Commissioner Anwar-ul-Haq said that during the lockdown best coordination was shown by the Rawalpindi Chamber and the Anjuman-e-Tajiran. We will continue to move forward with support, cooperation and consultation. Our elders have made great sacrifices for Independence Day

Saboor Malik said, “It is a day of happiness, a day of bowing down our heads before Almighty Allah in thankfulness and a day of renewing our pledge that we will continue to struggle with unity for the objectives, for which Pakistan was created.

“The RCCI chief urged the business community to adopt modern techniques to meet the challenges of the new era.

“Let us pledge that we, in line with the philosophy of Allama Iqbal and the ideology of the Founder of the Nation, with faith, conviction, unity and discipline, will continue to strive to make Pakistan a strong and prosperous country,” he added.

PTCL celebrates Independence Day with fervour

Islamabad, August 14,: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) celebrates Pakistan’s Independence Day on August 14, 2020, at its headquarters in Islamabad at a special ceremony organized on the occasion.

Ensuring COVID-19 guidelines, a special flag hoisting ceremony took place at 9:00AM, which was followed by prayers for the prosperity of the nation. Syed Mazhar Hussain, CHRO, PTCL, along with key PTCL officials and employees were present at the occasion to celebrate the Independence Day with full zeal and enthusiasm.

PTCL management and employees, along with CHRO, proceeded for a cake cutting ceremony to mark this auspicious day. All participants ensured proper safety measures and adhered to safety guidelines by wearing masks, using hand sanitizers and keeping adequate social distance for protection.

On the occasion Syed Mazhar Hussain, CHRO, PTCL, said, “We have followed our patriotic tradition to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day with proper safety protocols through the pandemic. Qabool video: FIR lodged against Saba Qamar, Bilal Saeed

An FIR has been lodged on Thursday against actor Saba Qamar and singer Bilal Saeed over their controversial shoot for the singer’s latest music video Qabool at Wazir Khan Mosque.

A case has been registered at Lahore’s Akbari Gate police station on the complaint of lawyer Farhat Manzoor. The FIR has been registered against Qamar and Saeed under Section 295 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting Its religion or religious beliefs) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Farhat Manzoor has accused the celebrities of hurting the sentiments of Muslims by shooting a music video at a mosque.

A sessions court had ordered the registration of the case.

Earlier, Saeed issued an apology over the controversial mosque shoot for his latest music video Qabool.

His apology was for every Muslim whose sentiments were hurt by watching them shoot the song video at a mosque. He announced that he is removing the whole sequence shot in at the Wazir Khan Mosque in Lahore.

Saeed also uploaded a lengthy apology on his Instagram account, saying both he and Qamar “realise what has happened over the past few days has hurt sentiments deeply”.

In the video, the Baari singer explained that he also belongs to a Muslim family and could never do anything that is against Islam.

A short clip of Qamar whirling with Saeed at the historic mosque went viral on social media. The video drew strong reactions from religious circles.

Qamar also responded to the criticism in a series of tweets, saying the clip was a “prologue to the music video featuring a Nikkah scene”.

“It was neither shot with any sort of playback music nor has it been edited to the music track,” she said on Twitter.

Humayun Saeed, Moulana Tariq Jameel, Faisal Edhi to receive civil awards

The government of Pakistan issued a list of 184 people on the occasion of its 73rd Independence Day who will be receiving civil awards on March 23, 2021. The list ranges from actors, poets, soldiers and singers to television anchors.

The awards will be presented by President Dr Arif Alvi for their excellence in different fields in a ceremony on Pakistan Day.

Philanthropist and Edhi Foundation head Faisal Edhi will be awarded with the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz. Edhi took over the responsibilities of the foundation that helps millions of people across Pakistan after the demise of his father Abdul Sattar Edhi.

The Nishan-i-Imtiaz will be awarded to ace painter Sadequain Naqvi. Other recipients of the award include singer Abida Perveen and late poet Ahmed Faraz.

Actors Bushra Ansari and Talat Hussain have been named for the Sitara-i-Imtiaz award. They have entertained audiences both inside and outside Pakistan for more than two decades. Anchor Naeem Bukhari is also one of the recipients of the award.

President Alvi will also present the Pride of Performance award actors to Humayun Saeed, singer Ali Zafar and religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel. Sakina Samo will also get the same award for her acting skills.

Last year, Mehwish Hayat, Sajjad Ali, Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi, Babra Sharif, comedian Iftikhar Thakur and journalist Arshad Sharif were among others who received the awards.

PIAF celebrates Independence Day on 14th Aug

ISLAMABAD, AUG 14 – The Pakistan Industrial & Traders Associations Front, like other parts of the country, also celebrated Pakistan’s 73rd Independence Day on 14th of August, 2020 on Friday, holding a flag-hoisting ceremony at PIAF office.

Provincial Livestock Minister Sardar Hasnain Bahadar Dreshak and PIAF Chairman Mian Nauman Kabir hoisted the national flag along with LCCI President Irfan Iqbal Sheikh, PIAF senior vice chairman Nasir Hameed, vice chairman Javed Siddiqi and the executive committee on this occasion.Provincial Minister for Livestock, addressing the ceremony, appreciated PIAF to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day in a befitting manner to commemorate the sacrifices of forefathers.

He paid tribute to the business community for upholding the values of determination and dedication for the objective of progress and high economic growth of Pakistan.

He also assured the business community of resolving their all issues as the government was working on a comprehensive plan to address their grievances.The minister said the government was concerned at businessmen’s troubles due to hike in cost of doing business.

He said the government is engaged with the business community on all trade-related matters through consultation. He appreciated the PIAF for helping the unprivileged people of society during the difficult time in wake of coronavirus.

He added that the government announced relaxation for the construction industry, which will boost the economy.PIAF chairman Mian Nauman Kabir, on this occasion, welcomed the businessmen to attend the landmark Independence Day event. He hailed the resolve of business community to contribute towards progress and prosperity of the country dynamically, as envisioned by father of the nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.“Let’s work for our country’s growth and development to realize the dream of our founding fathers for a modern and prosperous Pakistan,” he added.

PIAF chairman said that Pakistan has a bright economic future powered by its hard working people and a resilient democracy. We should remember today the sacrifices of our people to safeguard our identity and our way of life, he added.

Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi hosted “Azadi Festival” full of enthusiasm

He further said that the national song “Zindagi Hai Pakistan” produced by the Arts Council is being highly appreciated and I congratulate the Governing Body of Arts Council on the successful production.

 
On the occasion of the 73rd Independence Day celebrations in the Arts Council of Pakistan, Azadi Mushaira (poetry), Musical Program and Cultural Dances were organized.

 
Azadi Mushaira was presided over by Anwar Shour while famous poets of the country including Fatima Hassan, AH Khanzada, Ajmal Siraj, Aqeel Abbas Jafari, Salman Ahmed, Nasira Zubairi, and others presented their poetry While the Mushaira was moderated by Ambreen Haseeb Amber.

 
In the live concert, Arman Rahim, Shahzeb Ali, Mustafa Baloch, Muhammad Zubair, Kamran Saghu, Imran Ali, Shah Rukh Abbas, Newton Mushtaq, Narodha Malani, Huma Mughal, and other artists also sang the national songs to warm the blood of the audience while the regional dances were performed by the folk artists.

 
The flag was hoisted at 11:59 pm on August 13 at the main ceremony to the echo of the national anthem. Later, the cake was also cut.

Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrated in Paris

PARIS, –  Pakistan’s flag was hoisted at a ceremony held at the Pakistan Embassy here this morning to celebrate the country’s 74th Independence Day.Members of the Pakistani community and Officers and staff of the Embassy were present on the occasion.

Messages of President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out to the audience, while Charge d’Affaires a.i. Mr. Muhammad Amjad Aziz Qazi addressed the gathering.Expressing his views Mr. Qazi noted the importance of freedom and joy felt by Pakistanis inside and outside the country on this day.

He compared the situation in Pakistan with that of India in light of recent actions by India to marginalize its minorities. He also highlighted the sufferings of the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) saying that Indian government’s illegal act of changing the status of IIOJK and military siege imposed on the territory is in violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions that grant the right of self determination to Kashmiris.He also appreciated the role played by Pakistani and Kashmiri communities in raising the Kashmir issue in France.

While lauding the efforts of members of the Pakistani community in France during Covid-19 lockdown by providing relief to the needy, he  mentioned that Foreign Minister of Pakistan had also acknowledged the community’s efforts yesterday and honored two members of the community and an organization by including them in FM Honours List 2020.Mr. Qazi also availed of the opportunity to urge the community to use the recently issued Political Map of Pakistan in their events, wherever required.
