Pakistan summons Indian diplomat to lodge protest

DNA

ISLAMABAD, AUG 15 – A senior Indian diplomat was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today to register Pakistan’s strong protest over the ceasefire violations by the Indian occupation forces along the Line of Control (LoC) on 14th August 2020, resulting in serious injuries to one innocent civilian.

Due to indiscriminate and unprovoked firing by the Indian occupation forces in Dhudhnial Sector of the LoC, 03 year old Zulekha d/o Mushtaq, resident of Village Tejian, sustained serious injuries.

The Indian occupation forces along the LoC and the Working Boundary (WB) have been continuously targeting civilian populated areas with artillery fire, heavy-caliber mortars and automatic weapons. This year, India has committed more than 1980 ceasefire violations to date, resulting in 16 shahadats and serious injuries to 161 innocent civilians.

Condemning the deplorable targeting of innocent civilians by the Indian occupation forces, it was underscored that such senseless acts are in clear violation of the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding, and are also against all established humanitarian norms and professional military conduct. These egregious violations of international law reflect consistent Indian attempts to escalate the situation along the LoC and are a threat to regional peace and security. It was added that by raising tensions along the LoC and the WB, India cannot divert attention from the grave human rights situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Indian side was called upon to respect the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding; investigate this and other such incidents of deliberate ceasefire violations and maintain peace along the LoC and the WB. The Indian side was also urged to allow the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to play its mandated role as per the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolutions.

Supreme Court GIDC verdict highly laudable: Former President ICCI

DNA

ISLAMABAD, AUG 15 – Former President ICCI Shahid Rasheed Butt on Saturday said business community of Pakistan unconditionally support steps taken by Prime Minister Imran Khan to reduce the tariff of electricity.

The government has successfully negotiated reduction in the price of electricity by many IPPs and Wind Power Projects which will give relief to the masses and business community, he said.

Shahid Rasheed Butt said that reduced tariff of electricity will trigger production, employment, exports, and revenue.

He said that former governments promoted crooked businessmen in the name of bridging power shortfall and entered into highly controversial agreements which damaged the economy and eroded the buying power of masses.

Now the incumbent government is reversing the shady deals finalized under 2002 Power Policy but it should also look into the other projects finalized under other power policies and special arrangements, as their tariff is very high.

He said that there are reports that remaining IPPs are also considering signing new agreements which are not against national interests.

Mr. Butt said that power tariff in Pakistan is almost 25 to 35 percent higher than the regional countries making exports uncompetitive in the international market.

He said that the decision of the Supreme Court regarding GIDC is good and according to the ground realities which will give the benefit of Rs405 billion to the government.

The levy was imposed in 2011 to raise funds for gas infrastructure development while the total GIDC accumulated so far is Rs700 billion of which about Rs295 billion has been collected and Rs405 billion will be recovered now.
