As a sign of protest against the hypocritical policy of the USSR leadership towards the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, he left the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in July 1991.

In 1991, Heydar Aliyev was elected as chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan, and in accordance with the legislation as deputy chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

By strengthening Azerbaijan’s independence Heydar Aliyev ensured and preserved national unity and tirelessly worked to erect strong democratic institutions, while promoting economic growth.

A well-balanced and farsighted foreign policy conducted under his leadership enabled to strengthen Azerbaijan’s independence and sovereignty and establish strategic partnerships with regional states and global powers. The conclusion of the multi-billion-dollar “Contract of the Century”, which was a triumph of the policy based on the oil strategy pursued by national leader Heydar Aliyev, paving the way for bolstering the country’s geopolitical standing and economic integration.

The construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline was also among the grand achievements of Heydar Aliyev’s oil strategy.

Heydar Aliyev always had a special attention to Pakistan and called relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan brotherly and strategic. In his own words, “Azerbaijan has always, and in all the necessary levels, defended, and is defending today, the just position of Pakistan on Kashmir issue”.

Heydar Aliyev, a man of vision, his ideas and legacy will forever live in the memory of Azerbaijan.

Govt places Ahsan Iqbal’s name on ECL

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has placed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Ahsan Iqbal on the Exit Control List (ECL).

Sources having knowledge of the matter said the Ministry of Interior placed his name on the no-fly list.

His name was added to the ECL after approval of the federal cabinet, they said.

Iqbal is facing the Narowal Sports City reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Last year in November, the national graft buster filed the reference against the former federal minister.

As per the NAB, the sports city project conceived on the instruction of Ahsan Iqbal without any feasibility in 1999 was initially approved at a cost of Rs34.74 million by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP), which Iqbal headed.

Iqbal illegally directed the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and NESPAK to increase the project’s scope, enhancing the cost to Rs97.52 million, the NAB added.

‘Amir, Wahab, Imad are need of the team’ Shoaib Malik

KARACHI: Experienced all-round cricketer Shoaib Malik thinks that the Pakistan team currently needs Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Amir, and Imad Wasim.

Malik said a strong team builds only with a blend of young and experienced cricketers.

“I think a strong team is only built when it includes senior players. For me, this team needs Amir, Wahab, and Imad,” he said,

Remember, Amir has taken retirement from cricket citing like and dislike culture in the team whereas Wahab has shown himself available for only shorter formats. However, Imad is available for selection in all formats.

On the other hand, Malik blames team management for selecting the team on the basis of like and dislike. “Players are selected on the basis of like and dislike. I am not against anyone but we have seen this a lot of times,” he said.

“Misbah got two posts despite the fact that he wasn’t ready for coaching,” he added.

Meanwhile, Malik once again said he is ready to play this year’s T20 World Cup. “I am really looking forward to playing T20 World Cup this year. In fact, I am working really hard to prepare myself for this challenge,” he concluded.

Personal data sharing via official Apps may lead to data theft, warns Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has warned against the deliberate sharing of personal data with others via official applications such as Tawkalna and Umrah, it said on its Twitter account.

“Sharing data with others may lead to impersonation, identity theft, or abuse of any service delivered by official applications, such as Tawkalna and Umrah,” the Saudi Prosecution said in a statement

It added sharing data makes the perpetrator subject to criminal accountability. “This includes anyone who incited, helped, or agreed with others to commit the crime,” the prosecution said.

More than 70 per cent of smartphone apps are reporting personal data to third-party tracking companies like Google Analytics, the Facebook Graph API or Crashlytics.

Mobile phones can reveal a lot about their owners: where they live and work; who their family, friends and acquaintances are; how (and even what) they communicate with them; and personal habits. With all the information stored on them, it isn’t surprising that mobile device users take steps to protect their privacy, like using PINs or passcodes to unlock their phones.

When people install a new Android or iOS app, it asks the user’s permission before accessing personal information. Generally speaking, this is positive. And some of the information these apps are collecting are necessary for them to work properly: A map app wouldn’t be nearly as useful if it couldn’t use GPS data to get a location.

But once an app has permission to collect that information, it can share your data with anyone the app’s developer wants to – letting third-party companies track where you are, how fast you’re moving and what you’re doing.

Pakistan reports 140 deaths from COVID in past 24 hours

ISLAMABAD : The novel coronavirus claimed 140 more lives across Pakistan over the previous 24 hours, pushing the death toll from the disease to 18,677.

A total of 4,298 new infections were detected during the same period, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 850,131.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 44,846 samples were tested, out of which 4,298 turned out to be positive. The positivity rate of Covid-19 cases was recorded at 9.58 per cent.

On Thursday, National Command Operation Centre (NCOC) had given an additional task to the law enforcement authorities (LEAs) to manage entry and exit points at tourist spots during Eid holidays.

In special directives issued to the National Highway Authority (NHA) and Frontier Works Organization (FWO), the NCOC said that they should highlight banners at the toll plaza regarding the government’s decision to ban visits to tourist places during Eid holidays.

The NCOC said that the provinces have also issued directives to restrict movement during holidays, besides also banning tourist spots and hotels in these areas.

LEAs to be deployed at tourist spots: NCOC

ISLAMABAD, MAY 06 (DNA) – National Command Operation Centre (NCOC) has given an additional task to the law enforcement authorities (LEAs) to manage entry and exit points at tourist spots during Eid holidays.

The LEAs have been given special responsibility at tourist spots.

Earlier in the day, the Provincial Task Force on Covid-19 in KP decided to close all tourist spots in Pakistan’s northern areas during the Eid holidays to stem the third wave of the coronavirus.

A meeting of the Task Force reviewed the prevailing Covid-19 situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and took a number of decisions to prevent the spread of the virus.

Briefing the media after the meeting, the KP chief minister’s Special Assistant on Information Kamran Bangash said Covid-19 cases registered a sharp decline due to the government’s “best strategy”.

“The positivity ratio of infections is 8 percent to 9pc,” he said, adding the hardest-hit districts of the province are also reporting a drop in cases. Bangash announced that all tourist spots will remain closed from May 8 to May 16. He said the provincial government will approach the Centre seeking a ban on inter-provincial transport.

Pakistan reaffirms support to Palestine: Zahid Hafeez

We believe that for just and lasting peace, it is imperative to have a two-state solution in accordance with the relevant United Nations and OIC resolutions

ISLAMABAD, Foreign Office Spokesman Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri on Thursday reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian cause noting that it is rooted in the country’s principled stance on the people’s right to self-determination and its support for human rights.

He was speaking at a webinar hosted by Islamabad Policy Institute (IPI) on ‘Dynamics of Muslim World & Future of Palestine: Time to Fight Back’.

“We believe that for just and lasting peace, it is imperative to have a two-state solution in accordance with the relevant United Nations and OIC resolutions with the pre-1967 borders, and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as the capital of a viable, independent and contiguous Palestinian State,” he stated while recapping Pakistan’s Palestine Policy.

Pakistan, he said, will continue to extend its full support to the Palestinian people in their struggle for the realization of their inalienable rights and for the establishment of an independent state.

The spokesman noted that Pakistan’s Palestine Policy is driven by the fact that it is one of the most important causes of the Muslim world which led to the creation of Organization of Islamic Cooperation; and the country’s principled stance on the people’s right to self-determination.

The issue, he further said, is also important from the human rights perspective.

“We are deeply concerned at the continuing egregious human rights violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territories,” he said adding Pakistan had always emphasized the need for protection of fundamental rights of the people in the occupied territories, be it Palestine, Kashmir or elsewhere.

IPI Executive Director Prof Sajjad Bokhari said there is a natural and strong emotional attachment to the issue of Palestine, as well as a deep commitment to its just and peaceful settlement because of the centrality of the cause of Al-Quds Al-Sharif for Muslims.

The year 2020, he observed, was a year of setbacks for the Palestinians.

He emphasized the need for publics of other countries to maintain pressure on their governments on Palestinian issue so that international solidarity for the cause could be maintained.

Prof Bokhari asked the Palestinians to initiate an internal dialogue among themselves to develop a new vision for their struggle that could energize their resistance while bringing together the different factions.

He said that with US losing its credibility as an impartial mediator and in view of its declining dominance in global politics, the Palestinians should explore options with other influential countries.

General Secretary Palestine Foundation Sabar Abu Maryam said Palestinians needed justice and not just peace, which can only be acquired through right to self-determination.

He maintained that Palestinian struggle is not against any religion and it aims at justice for Palestinian Arabs who include Muslims, Christians and Jews.

He stressed the need for remaining firmly attached to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s policy on the dispute.

IPI Researcher Mobeen Jafar Mir, in his presentation on Biden’s policy on Palestine, said the change in administration was met with hope and optimism but it all proved rather hollow and short-lived.

Recent developments, he underscored, have made it clear that the Biden administration is least willing of all previous administrations to solve the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Palestine is currently low on Biden administration’s priority list, which is dominated by intensifying rivalry with China, withdrawal of forces from Afghanistan, and the Indo-Pacific region. This, he said, will further narrow down the prospects of a two-state solution for the vulnerable Palestinians.
