Corona vaccination center being established at Islamabad Press Club for journalists

ISLAMABAD: A Corona vaccination center is being established at Islamabad Press Club for journalists to protect media workers from the pandemic.

In a tweet, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said Planning Minister Asad Umar has issued directions in this regard.

He said the vaccination centre is being established on the request of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to protect journalists, who are also frontline workers, from the contagion. 

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said that such facility will soon be made available for the legal fraternity.

More than 125,000 Myanmar teachers suspended for opposing coup

NAYPYIDAW: In Myanmar, the military government has suspended 125,000 school teachers and 19,500 university staff under the charge of joining a civil disobedience movement to oppose the military coup in February.

The step has been taken days before the start of a new school year, which some teachers and parents are boycotting as part of the campaign.

Parliament election for 500 NA seats underway in Vietnam

HANOI: In Vietnam, parliament election is being held today for the five hundred National Assembly seats after five years.

Nearly sixty nine million registered voters are casting their votes in today’s election. Election results are expected to be announced after about two weeks.

NCOC urges masses to adopt safe tourism policy as restrictions ease from tomorrow

ISLAMABAD, May 23 (DNA): The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Sunday in its special session reviewed implementation strategy of NPIs enforcement focusing opening up of Tourism Sector from Monday (May24) and urged the masses to resort to “Safe Tourism” policy.

The NCOC special session was chaired by National Coordinator Lieutenant General Hamood uz Zaman Khan held here where the forum took detailed stock of implementation strategy of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) being enforced with special focus on opening up of Tourism Sector from May 24.

The forum urged the public to resort to “SAFE TOURISM” policy of strict adherence to health guidelines and safety protocols devised by the forum aimed to curb disease spread of deadly coronavirus.

The forum was briefed that a comprehensive monitoring mechanism had been devised to ensure that standard operating procedures (SOPs) were being implemented in true letter and spirit.

The forum also reviewed the inbound travel policy where it was informed that the Category C list of the countries, having mutated version or variant of Covid-19 prevailing with more lethal and contagious form of the disease, had been revised with addition of certain other countries which would be implemented from 26th May.

The forum was informed that stringent SOPs for verification of disease status of inbound passengers was in place. However, the forum decided that in view of increasing positive cases being reported in passengers from UAE and Bahrain, PCR results from only authorized labs would be accepted to ensure credibility of Covid-19 test.

UNSC calls for full adherence to Israel-Hamas cease-fire

NEWYORK: The United Nations Security Councils urged the international community to work together on developing an integrated, robust package of support for a swift, sustainable reconstruction and recovery.

In a press statement, the UNSC stressed the immediate need for humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian civilian population, particularly in Gaza.

United Nations Security Council also called for the full adherence to a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

PAKISTAN RECEIVES 2 MLN MORE DOSES OF SINOVAC VACCINE

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane carrying 2 million doses of Sinovac vaccine  reached Pakistan on Sunday.

National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) in a tweet said that the consignment was purchased by Pakistan from China.

With the arrival of this consignment, a total 11 million vaccines had been received by Pakistan, the NCOC Tweet said.

PM for removing barriers in issuing long-term visas to foreign investors

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan says the strategic partnership between Pakistan and China is exemplary in the world.

Chairing a review meeting on the progress of CPEC projects and promotion of investment in Islamabad today (Sunday), he said in order to transform these relations into strong economic ties, it is necessary to promote investment in areas of mutual interest. 

The Prime Minister said all possible incentives should be provided to investors.

He expressed satisfaction over the progress of Special Economic Zones.

The meeting decided to set up a CPEC Special Economic Zone in Karachi.

The Prime Minister directed the Board of Investment to formulate and present a detailed plan, with consultation of business community, for the promotion of foreign investment in specific sectors.

He also directed the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to remove barriers in issuing long-term visas to foreign investors, especially the Chinese investors.

No decision taken about Hajj: Saudi Embassy

ISLAMABAD, MAY 23 (DNA) – The Saudi Embassy in Pakistan has said in a statement that no decision has been taken yet regarding the Hajj.

 A spokesman for the Saudi embassy in Pakistan said, Sunday, that “no decision has been taken yet regarding the Hajj. All that is said in this regard are proposals that are still under study.”

 According to the statement, the statement of the Special Representative of the Prime Minister of Pakistan for the Middle East and Religious Harmony Taher Al-Ashrafi regarding Hajj is incorrect.

 It is noteworthy that Taher Ashrafi said on Saturday that the Saudi government has allowed 60,000 people to perform the Hajj this year, and Pakistanis will also go to perform the Hajj.

UAE says it is ready to facilitate Israel-Palestinian peace efforts

DUBAI – The United Arab Emirates stands ready to facilitate peace efforts between Israel and the Palestinians, the UAE state news agency reported on Sunday, citing Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al-Nayhan.

Sheikh Mohamed’s comments came in a telephone call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, expressing support for Egypt’s efforts to bolster a ceasefire agreed by Israel and the Palestinians after 11 days of fighting.

The UAE, which last year signed an agreement to normalise relations with Israel, “is ready to work with all parties to preserve the ceasefire and find new ways to reduce escalation and achieve peace”, the news agency quoted Sheikh Mohammed as saying.

LAHORE, MAY 23 – Franchises finalise their squad for the remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 in a replacement draft on Saturday.

Multan Sultans selected West Indies’ explosive duo of Shimron Hetmyer and Johnson Charles whereas Quetta Gladiators picked Australia’s duo of Jack Wildermuth, Jake Weatherald, Afghanistan’s Zahir Khan and local pacer Khurram Shehzad.

Sultans also inducted veteran all-rounder Hammad Azam and United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s Muhammad Waseem.
