UZBEKISTAN UNDER PRESIDENT SHAVKAT MIRZIYOYEV

It is a clear manifestation that the country has been striving hard to gain high status in the comity of nations. Therefore, the third Renaissance would prove to be a milestone for Uzbekistan to portray its image as a more accountable nation.

Khalid TaimurAkram

It is generally believed that every country in the world has some potential to achieve respectable status among nations’ comity. However, only a few of these countries find leaders who possess the far-sightedness and prudence to steer their nations through tumultuous waters of scathing hardships and challenges to ensure a prosperous future for them.

In the 21st century C.E., the rise of Uzbekistan’s potential role both within and outside the Central Asian block has been witnessed due to the remarkable efforts of incumbent President ShavkatMirziyoyev.Uzbekistan’s global outreach and economic benefits have been enhanced due to the incumbent visionary leadership of His Excellency, PresidentShavkatMirziyoyev. He has continuously emphasized the importance of creating a coherent and win-win economic environment for all the countries.

Moreover, he has emerged as a dynamic leader to work for regional peace, development, and resolve the Afghan conflict. Uzbekistan is one of the major stakeholders in the Afghan peace process. The country has been considered as one of the fastest-growing economies in the region. It has witnessed significant structural policy reforms under H.E. President. Therefore, the article elaborates on President ShavkatMirziyoyev’s unprecedented rise to the helm ofsocio-economic and political affairs in Uzbekistan. Moreover, this study highlights Uzbekistan’s substantial role and efforts to strengthen the nation and integrate other regional countries.

Towards Successful Development:

Under H.E. President ShavkatMirziyoyev’s, Uzbekistan has been committed tokeep a strategic equilibrium within the region.More proactive and prudent interest in seeking positive regional influence and conducting international peace activities by President ShavkatMirziyoyev has enabled the state to become a key regional player.

There are various reasons which have accelerated this change in the approach of Uzbekistan’s leadership. Any country’s realistic economic goals cannot be achieved unless it forms strong socio-economic alliances with the dominant countries in its region vis-à-vis economic development. To achieve this objective, Uzbekistan has significantly improved its relations with its neighbors and regional allies. The greater alliance among the countries is important for the expeditious socio-economic growth of all regions. Under the visionary leadership of H.E.

President ShavkatMirziyoyev, Uzbekistan has adopted anexceptional approach amid efficacious strategies to modernize and diversify its economy. The result-orientated policies by the visionary Uzbek leadership ultimately prove to be a driving force for the amicable resolution of common global menaces and persistent challenges. Furthermore, the internal structural reforms in the country paved the way for ambitious market-oriented economic policies.

Uigonish Davri(Third Renaissance) under President Shavkat Mirziyoyev:

Renaissance is a French wordthat means to be reborn. The Uzbek concept “UigonishDavri” (Evolutionary period or Renaissance) is a synonym for this term. In this aspect, the current reformsin Uzbekistan are worth mentioning and praising. The third Renaissance wave is amid the new paradigm shift that Uzbekistan has taken to play a full-fledged and pro-active role in uplifting the economy, maintaining and promoting regional peace and stability. Uzbekistan’s government has rightly felt the need to have a peaceful approach to achieve economic and political prosperity goals with wider regional connectivity. Under the third Renaissance, the new dynamics within Uzbek society and a fresh approach to foreign relations, where a new spirit of regionalism is taking root, is highly commendable. In the new Uzbekistan reforms, the government liberalized the foreign currency market to attract investments. There have been considerable improvements in the media landscape. Moreover, in order to strengthen openness and transparency, the visionary leadership of Uzbekistan is ambitious to implement the constitutional rules on freedom of speech, spreading information, and regional integration.

The new reforms, include political openness, bank sector reforms, agriculture reforms, financial market reforms, privatization, education reforms, energy sector reforms, and tax reforms. In this aspect, the structural changes within the country would definitely bring positive outcomes outside the country.

The economic and trade openness would integrate many regional nations with Uzbekistan.Furthermore, Uzbekistan also aims to incorporate the phenomena of academic cooperation into regionalism. Uzbekistan pays great attentionin improving the educational sphere, especially the comprehensive support to science& technology and research& development.

The foundation for a new revival for the Third Renaissance is being laid in Uzbekistan because today’s Uzbekistan has been transformed, and His Excellency, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has emerged as a most important leader in the regional political and economic discourse.

Thereby, the broader reforms with structural adjustments would enable Uzbekistan’s potential role in the world. It is a clear manifestation that the country has been striving hard to gain high status in the comity of nations. Therefore, the third Renaissance would prove to be a milestone for Uzbekistan to portray its image as a more accountable nation.

Germany not planning compulsory vaccinations: Merkel

erlin, July 13 :Germany is not planning to follow France and other countries in introducing compulsory Covid-19 vaccinations for parts of the population, Chancellor Angela Merkel said Tuesday.

“We do not intend to go down this road,” Merkel said in Berlin after visiting the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) public health agency. “We are at the beginning of the phase in which we are still promoting (vaccination), where we have more vaccines than we have people who want to be vaccinated,” she added.

Joe Biden calls ‘remarkable’ Cuba protests a ‘demand for freedom’

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden called protests in Cuba “remarkable” and a “clarion call for freedom,” praising thousands of Cubans who took the streets to protest food shortages and high prices amid the coronavirus crisis — one of the island’s biggest anti-government demonstrations in recent memory.

“The Cuban people are demanding their freedom from an authoritarian regime. I don’t think we’ve seen anything like this protest in a long long time, if, quite frankly, ever,” Biden said Monday in a brief exchange with reporters at the start of a meeting with mayors and law enforcement officials to discuss gun violence in the U.S.

The comments marked a notable change in tone from Biden’s old boss, Barack Obama, who as president sought to ease decades of tensions between Washington and Havana while loosening U.S. imposed economic sanctions. It was an effort that was reversed by Republican President Donald Trump, who partially rolled back Obama’s rapprochement, limiting U.S. travel to the island, banning American financial transactions with dozens of enterprises, and more.

“We stand with the Cuban people and their clarion call for freedom and relief from the tragic grip of the pandemic and from the decades of repression and economic suffering to which they have been subjected by Cuba’s authoritarian regime,” Biden said in an earlier statement Monday. “The Cuban people are bravely asserting fundamental and universal rights.”

Julie Chung, the acting assistant secretary for the department’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, on Sunday suggested that the protests were driven by Cuban people exercising “their right to peaceful assembly to express concern about rising COVID case/deaths & medicine shortage. We commend the numerous efforts of the Cuban people mobilizing donations to help neighbors.”

But White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Monday sought to frame the protests being driven by far broader frustration, calling the demonstrations “spontaneous expressions of people who are exhausted with the Cuban government’s economic mismanagement and repression.”

Psaki added that the U.S. remains ready to assist Cuba in its COVID-19 vaccination effort, but the Cuban government’s decision not to participate in COVAX — a worldwide initiative aimed at distributing vaccines to poorer nations — complicated the effort.

“We certainly recognize and understand that access to vaccines is one of the issues that a number of individuals on the streets is voicing concern about, but we have to determine what the mechanism would be to work with the Cuban people to get vaccines to them,” Psaki said.

The scene of demonstrators on Havana’s Malecon promenade and elsewhere on the island was an unusual scene as the communist leadership has historically shown little tolerance for criticism. Police initially trailed behind as protesters chanted “Freedom,” “Enough” and “Unite.” One motorcyclist pulled out a U.S. flag, but it was snatched from him by others.

About 2 1/2 hours into the march, some protesters pulled up cobblestones and threw them at police, at which point officers began arresting people and the marchers dispersed. AP journalists counted at least 20 people who were taken away in police cars or by individuals in civilian clothes.

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., lashed out at Biden for taking a full day to acknowledge the protesters, noting on Twitter that Biden’s statement did not describe the Cuba government as ” socialist and communist.”

“The protests in #Cuba began over 24 hours ago And you forgot something,” Rubio said.

Biden said on the campaign trail that he would largely reverse Trump’s Cuba policy and return to Obama-era policies. But Biden has largely kept Trump’s policies in the place in the early going.

Rubio in a letter Monday called on the president to take a series of steps in support of the protesters, including making free satellite internet access available on the island; rallying Western Hemisphere and European Union leaders to condemn the Cuban government’s efforts to stifle the voice of protesters; and making “a clear and unambiguous statement that the current U.S. policies towards the regime implemented by the Trump Administration will remain in place.”

Administration officials said their review of Cuba policy is ongoing.

“We’re looking carefully and closely at what has just happened, what indeed is happening,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said. “And as we stated many times, at the heart of the review and at the heart of the policy that would result are democracy and human rights. That’s core to our efforts. That will be reflected in the policy.”

ICCI DEMANDS WITHDRAWAL OF ADVANCE TAX ON PHARMA SECTOR

ISLAMABAD, JUL 13 (DNA) – The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) has called upon the government to withdraw the advance tax imposed on pharmaceuticals in the budget 2021-22 as it would increase the prices of medicines and put more financial burden on the poor patients besides affecting the business activities of the pharma sector.

Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry said that providing health services and medicines at affordable cost to the citizens is the basic responsibility of the state. However, the FBR vide its Circular No.2 of 2021-22 has broadened the scope of Sec-236G and 236H of Income Tax Ordinance 2001 to pharmaceuticals requiring them to collect advance tax on sale to distributors, dealers, sub-dealers, wholesalers and retailers, which would cause significant increase in the prices of medicines.

He said that the common man was already facing great problems due to high inflation while tax on pharmaceuticals would further push up the prices of medicines and would make the lives of poor patients more miserable as it would become very difficult for them to purchase costly medicines.

Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan said that the Chemists and Druggists Association has already rejected the advance tax levied in the budget 2021-22 and the businessmen of this sector have announced to go on strike against this tax in coming days.

Therefore, he urged that the government should pay serious attention to this issue to save the disruption in the supply chain of medicines as any shortage of medicines would create a lot of problems for the patients.

Fatma Azim Senior Vice President and Abdul Rehman Khan Vice President ICCI said that the advance tax under Sec-236G and 236H has also been levied on many new sectors including poultry and edible oil & ghee that would give rise to food inflation in the country as the prices of these products have already witnessed significant increase.

They said that the government should avoid imposing new taxes on essential items being consumed by the common man including medicines and food products as new taxes on daily used items would increase poverty and social unrest.

They emphasized that the government should always take all stakeholders into confidence before imposing new taxes in order to save the businesses and the common man from unnecessary troubles.

TO DEVELOP A WIND ENERGY ENHANCED ELECTRIC VEHICLE

Sundas Khalid

Abstract:

The wind energy enhanced electric vehicle is one which includes multiple generators/turbines according to the user demand which will be powered by the aerodynamics of the car to charge the battery and provide extra miles on the same charge.

Future of EV is evolving and it is predicted to see its peak in near future, future is all electric and soon EV’s will replace gasoline engine. Electric cars are expensive and developing but the problem sustains; range limitation. However mid-priced electric vehicle class has limited features with less emphasis on features like infotainment, instrument cluster, and other expensive features. Considering the future and ease of EV users, our idea of range extension is a must for every user in future, it has a huge market capacity and may bring ample revenue in future.

Introduction:

The idea is an add on to pre-existing electric cars.On averagean electric car ranges around 250km (variable) range in single charge. With this idea one can increase range of his electric vehicle without breaking his pocket. We are introducing wind turbine assistedgenerators for electric cars positioned in front grills and bumper, the process can be simply quoted as,the propeller shaft is attached to generator shaft with the gear system in-between. The cars aero dynamics would assist the rotationof the propeller, the gear system would amplify the revolution and the generator will produce energy that will compensate the actual range.

The electric vehicle has been around for over 100 years, and it has an interesting history of development that continues to the present. France and England were the first nations to develop the electric vehicle in the late 1800s. It was not until 1895 that Americans began to devote attention to electric vehicles. Many innovations followed and interest in motor vehicles increased greatly in the late 1890s and early 1900s. In 1897 the first commercial application was established as a fleet of New York City taxis. The early electric vehicles, such as the 1902 Wood’s Phaetonwere little more than electrified horseless carriages and surreys. Since the invention of electric car, it has been developed till date. Despite this fact, the major challenge which is their short driving range still exists.

Electric Car driving system constitute of 3 major components; namely, the motor, the controller and the battery (Annexure. 1)(Raj, n.d.). While some cars would use the standard car batteries as a source of energy, the more advanced ones use the Li-ion batteries as more efficient energy source that gives extra range of operation for the vehicle. They not only are capable of fast charging but they provide more energy to the motor attached. Additionally, the controller is very important as it synchronizes the operation of both motor and battery. Moreover, electric car chargers are responsible for charging the battery pack in an electric car. These chargers are installed in homes, offices, shopping stores and public places to enable one to charge his/her car. Fully charging an electric car can take 6-8 hours.

The idea of adding a wind turbine generator is to extend the existing range on an electric vehicle whilst consuming the already estimated range. Getting a car with longer range is yet possible but, electric cars are very expensive as they consist of various software and hardware advancements which are yet under constant development.

For instance, Tesla Model S Plaid with an estimated range of 350miles is for 113000$ excluding taxes and the Plaid+ model which has an estimated range of 550+miles, is for whopping143000$, excluding taxes. One has to pay an additional 30000$ for range extension, which on the other hand can get you a normal sedan. We represent the idea of range extension using wind energy which is going to charge the battery to some extent to ensure extra miles on the same charge.

Discussion:

If a normal range electric car with an efficiency of 295Wh/mile is driven 13500 miles a year, a total of 3,982,500Wh of energy is used, which is equal to 3,982.5KWh. On average KWh in United States is charged at rate of 0.13$, which equals to a total of 517.73$ to drive the car over a year, breaking it to months it will cost around 43.14$(Sibila).A range extended vehicle would cost slightly more on monthly basis.

The Electric Vehicle Market is projected to reach 26,951,318 units by 2030 from an estimated 3,269,671 units in 2019, at a CAGR of 21.1% during the forecast period.Mid-Priced vehicle segment are expected to grow at highest CAGR rate(Marketsandmarkets, n.d.). The future of EVs is expected to be bright and with time the price of batteries, one of the most vital components in an EV, is reducing significantly which would make EVs more affordable. Mid-Priced vehicle class has limited features with less emphasis on features like infotainment, instrument cluster, and other expensive features. In July 2018, Great Wall Motors announced a partnership with BMW Group to produce electric MINI vehicles in China. In December 2018, the company launched its new flagship vehicle under its new ‘ORA’ electric car brand: the ORA R1. The small urban car will cost only USD 8,680 after incentives with a range of almost 200 miles, the problem still sustains; short range for mid-priced EV’s.

Air pollution is a big issue in the cities for developing countries. Air pollution is mainly caused by vehicle emissions. Electric cars have zero emission. Using electric cars should not hurt economy. Oppositely, the business of electric cars can create a lot of jobs in the areas of new electricity charge station construction and operation, battery production, renewable energy, new car design, and production. Electric cars and vehicles have low emissions (zero emission by using renewable energy) and can become integral parts of a smart grid, where they do not just consume power but also provide mobile storage of energy.Target audience for our product is middle class, someone who can spend 100k$+ for an EV, can easily spend over 130k$ for a long-range EV. Considering the future and ease of EV users, our idea of range extension is a must for every user in future, it has a huge market capacity and may bring ample revenue in future(Liu).

For better understanding, let’s take example of 2 electric cars, Car X and Y, both of the cars are identical and both has stock batteries and motors, except car Y is equipped with our wind energy generator. The trip is from point A to point B.

For instance, both cars accelerate at the same pace, Car X would complete 3 quarter, whereas Car Y would complete its trip to point B (Annexure. 2).

If one has to complete his trip from point A to B, he has to have his hands on long range electric vehicle which as aforementioned has quite large price difference. A similar representation of our idea (Annexure. 3) (Prem, n.d.)shows how we can add wind energy generators in front end of the car. Similarly, we can adjust multiple generators in different positions of the car e.g. front bumper, bonnet grill, inside the frunk, rear bumper and grills.

The aerodynamics of the car running in forward direction would assist the propeller of each generator/turbine to rotate, the gear system which is attached to the propeller shaft and the generator shaft would amplify the rotation significantly, providing more efficiency even if car moves at a slow speed. 5 to 6 turbines installed according to the need of user can produce sufficient power to charge the battery. The generators will then act as a charger and help charge the EV battery while using it simultaneously. It will provide the user with additional miles on the same charge he had done while departing for his journey. (Annexure. 4)

Conclusion:

1)        Wind energy is a renewable and never-ending source of energy.

2)        Electric Cars is the future of automotive industry.

3)        All development in automotive industry has led to better vehicles gradually.

4)        The only problem that still exists is shorter range.

5)        The EV’s with bigger batteries are too expensive to afford for a middle-class user.

6)        Wind energy enhanced vehicles would help users get extra miles on the same charge without breaking their pockets.

7)        Wind energy enhanced vehicle is a cheap alternative to longer range electric cars.

8)        Wind energy enhances vehicles is easy on monthly bills also.

9)        Wind energy turbines is a deal breaker for both mid-priced and high-end electric vehicles as it compensates that extra amount for bigger batteries.

C & SA REGIONAL CONNECTIVITY: INITIATIVES BY UZBEKISTAN

Khalid Taimur Akram

The 21st century has many key determinants as it is the most revolutionary age in history. The pace and scope of the transformation have never been this great. Countries are inclined towards cooperation and wider regional alignments through economic linkages in the multipolar world, pursuing their collective goals.

Therefore, it is important to consider the complex balance sheet involving challenges and opportunities to access different aspects of International Relations between Central Asian and South Asian countries. To understand the existing potential of the broader region, examining geo-political and geo-economic pillars is highly significant. While analyzing the historical perspective, it is evident that this era has brought many transitions. In present times, countries have deepened cooperation among other states and regions. In this context, the revival of cultural and humanitarian ties can pave the way to strengthen friendship and mutual understandings between Central and South Asian countries.

Intercultural Dialogue Process:

Regional connectivity is the key mantra in today’s political and economic discourse. It is significant for the socio-economic development of any state. The broader cooperation offers a rationale for upgrading and revising the world’s narratives and policies to match pace with the time. In this aspect, the grand initiative of “Central and South Asias Regional Connectivity,” proposed by the President of Uzbekistan, His Excellency, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, is pertinent to discuss.  The concept has been advocated to highlight the broader foreign policy objectives of Tashkent in contemporary times.

In the 21st century, the rise of Uzbekistan’s potential role both within and outside the Central Asian block has been witnessed due to the remarkable efforts of incumbent Uzbek President Shavkat Miriyoyev. Uzbekistan has become a significant regional player to connect Central Asia with South Asia via successful economic development programs. Moreover, the third Renaissance declared by the President of Uzbekistan is likely to bring fruitful outcomes for the country and integrate other regional countries.  Constructive reforms have been announced under the third Renaissance. Therefore, it is significant to understand the robust structure of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy targets. The Renaissance period is amid contemporary reforms, policy framework, and innovativedimensions, paving the way for regional integration, economic cooperation, and building a wider understanding of mutual interests.

The Third Renaissance under President Shavkat Mirziyoyev:

Uzbekistan’s growing energy requirements and need for strong strategic allies have also played an important role in easing relations with important regional powers. In this aspect, multiple contracts were also signed for economic projects with many countries. Significant efforts are being held to increase trade, build new industrial cooperation chains and diversify cargo transportation routes through the efficacious Belt and Road initiative (BRI). Recently, the commencement of trade between Uzbekistan and Pakistan via Afghanistan has been a milestone achievement. Pakistan signed the Convention on International Transport of Goods Under Cover of TIR Carnets in August 2015, a multilateral treaty that entails no payment of customs duties and taxes. Pakistan ratified the convention in January 2016. Under this multilateral agreement, the first-ever shipment of Goods for traffic-in-transit of goods across the border reached Pakistan from Uzbekistan via Afghanistan in present times. The trade-commerce activity has paved the way for future collaboration in many other fields.

One cannot ignore Uzbekistan tremendous role in Afghan Peace Process. The Uzbekistan government’s constant efforts to erase the mistrust between Afghanistan’s neighboring countries havebecome a reality.Forensuring lasting peace in Afghanistan, Uzbekistanhas formed relations with all the major stakeholders involved in resolving the Afghanconflict. Moreover, the incumbent leadership has also allowed enhancing people-to-people connections, trans-regional trade-commerce activities, and joint peacemaking efforts toassimilate the Afghan government and people. Uzbekistan’s government has rightly felt the need to have a peaceful approach so that economic and political prosperity goals with wider regional connectivity can be achieved. Therefore, the third Renaissance would prove to be a milestone for Uzbekistan to portray its image as a more accountable nation.

Uzbekistans Significant Foreign Policy Contours: Prospects for Multilateral Cooperation

More proactive and vigilant interest in seeking positive regional influence and conducting international peace activities by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has enabled the country to become a key regional player. In general, by promoting socio-economic, energy, transport & communication projects in the neighboring country, andincreasing regional trade ties, Uzbekistan seeks to promote the transformation. Moreover, it is inclined to establish a link between Central and South Asia, making place for mutually beneficial interregional cooperation.

The idea of Central-South Asian connectivity encapsulates broader paradigms, i.e., economic growth and revival of cultural and humanitarian relations. The narrative further strengthens friendship and confidence, ensure the security of cross broader infrastructure, and formulate effective policies for countering common threats. Pakistan, as a close ally, appreciates and supports this remarkable initiative. Pakistan is ready to enhance the sphere of cooperation in multiple fields to curtail the difference, bring regional peace, promote friendly relations, enhance cultural integration, upgrade regional security architecture, and combat common challenges.
