MOROCCAN AMBASSADOR VISITS FPCCI

ISLAMABAD, AUG 23 /DNA/ – Mohamed Karmoune, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Pakistan visit FPCCI Capital office Islamabad. to advises business community of Pakistan to visit Morocco for Business and Trade enhancement. President FPCCI Main Nasseer Hyatt Maggo , Head FPCCI capital Office Islamabad Haji Qurban Ali, Coordinator FPCCI Capital Office Islamabad Welcome the Ambassador of Morocco. 

Ambassador of Kingdom of Morocco Mohammed Karmoune, while indicating to enhance trade volume between Pakistan and Morocco, advised the Business & Industrial Community of Islamabad to arrange trade delegations’ visit at least twice a year in order to explore trade and investment opportunities in Morocco which is the gateway to the African region. And advice Pakistan business community to send with mutual understanding trade delegates to Morocco as well, for the above said purpose.

Addressing to a Leading Business Community of Pakistan In FPCCI during his visit to the FPCCI Capital Office Islamabad, he added that Pakistani business community must look for trade and investment opportunities in Morocco and benefit from Morocco’s free trade agreements with United States and European Union. And tourism and exchange of herbal products and fertilizer as well are the sectors in which both sides needs to be focused and work together.

And other relevant sectors like Halal food exports, food and beverages, and other relevant products has to be mutually exports to each other countries and business scale has to be high, while sharing and exchange of technology . 

President FPCCI Mian Nasseer Hyattt Maggo in his welcome and introductory address,  introduce about working of FPCCI apex body it’s relevant sectors and also offer mutual business delegations exchange often sector wise in near future. Also intruded CPEC it’s regional importance and market in near future and invite Morocco to invest in CPEC important regions Gwader and Gilgit Baltistan as well. Both Pakistan and Morocco agreed to work further for enhancement of trade between two countries having bounding of cultural in heritage also as well.

President FPCCI said that with both country’s business delegates exchange it will be easy for business men to play in vital role of economy of both sides. The idea of B to B meeting while using the facility of webinar was also discussed in the said meeting due to Covid-19 situation as it’s easy to be held.

 Moroccan Ambassador said, “Trade volume between Morocco and Pakistan is not at the level being expected by the business communities of the two countries hence collective efforts will have to be made from both sides to improve the existing low trade volume. In this regard, we will have to jointly explore sectors/ areas where the Moroccan and Pakistani business communities could collaborate.” H.E. Ambassador of Morocco said that Morocco is the gateway to entire African region and a trading hub where lot of well-established ports exist particularly the port of Tangier.  He said that tourism is an important driver of the Moroccan economy. Pakistan too has a great potential in this sector.

 The two countries can exchange ideas in the field of tourism promotion as well and can utilize each other experiences in the sector of tourism in near future, and for this purpose people to people (one to one) meeting is necessary.

President FPCCI said that in his opinion there is a great potential for enhancing bilateral trade relations between Morocco and Pakistan, as Morocco is located at the gateway of Africa and Europe and offers great economic opportunities which should be explored. “Both countries must look for cooperating with each other particularly in those sectors in which the two have comparative advantage”, he added.

Former Vice President FPCCI Ali Quaid, Vice President Mandi Bahauddin  Muhamamd Zahid Patiala, Senior Member Gilgit CCI Muhammad Raziq, Former Senior member ICCI Ameen ur Rehman Former Senior Vice President Islamabad Small Chamber of Ch Saeed were present in the meeting, Where as Business Ladies from Rawalpindi Women Chamber, Advocate Miss Sheeba, Miss Naveeda Khan, Miss Shazia Tariq, Miss Almas Akhtar, and Miss Shazia Hassan were also present in the meeting.

Both the Ambassador of Morocco and President of FPCCI agreed for exchange of trade delegation soon, and people to people contact for enhancement of trade volume as it has to be due to regional needs. Meeting took place in very business friendly and brotherly environment.=DNA

Cotton futures close higher

ZHENGZHOU, Aug. 23 :Cotton futures closed higher Monday in daytime trading on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange (ZCE).

The most active cotton contract for January 2022 delivery gained 55 yuan (about 8.47 U.S. dollars) to close at 17,860 yuan per tonne.

On Monday, the total trading volume for six listed cotton futures contracts on the ZCE was 440,857 lots with a turnover of 39.17 billion yuan.

As the world’s largest producer, consumer and exporter of textile, China listed cotton futures on ZCE in June 2004, helping cotton-related enterprises hedge the price risk.

Sri Lanka records 4,282 COVID-19 new cases, highest single day spike

COLOMBO, Aug. 23 :Sri Lanka’s Health Ministry on Monday said that the country recorded its highest single day COVID-19 tally of 4,282 cases on Sunday, bringing the total infections to 390,000 since March last year.

According to official figures, Sri Lanka surpassed the 4,000 mark in daily infections on Sunday and now its total active patient count stood at 40,475. The death toll from the virus reached 7,366.

Sri Lanka is witnessing a rapid spread in COVID-19 infections due to the Delta variant and on Friday, the country declared a 10-day nationwide quarantine curfew to minimize the spread.

Army Commander and Head of the National Operations Center for Prevention of COVID-19, General Shavendra Silva told Xinhua that only essential services, and those employed in the agriculture, pharmaceutical, health, apparel, media, and online services would be permitted to work.

Others were encouraged to work from home and stay indoors.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed the police chief to take strict actions against those who violated the curfew.

On Monday, thousands of police and army personnel were deployed on the streets, checking vehicles on the roads. People who were granted permission to leave their homes were encouraged to finish their work soon and return back indoors.

Sri Lanka has made it mandatory to wear face masks and maintain social distance in public and anyone caught defying these rules can face a jail term and fines.

Kohat hospitals to be given MTI status for improved health facilities: Ziaullah Bangash

PESHAWAR, Aug 23 :Chairman District Development Advisory Committee (DDAC) Kohat, MPA Ziaullah Bangash on Monday said that quality of health facilities would be improved by giving Medical Teaching Institutes (MTI) status to both hospitals of Kohat district. 

Talking to APP, the DDAC Chairman, Ziaullah Bangash said that provincial government and Health Department had agreed in principle for status up gradation of both hospitals with an objective to provide best healthcare facilities to people.

He said that under the MTI Act board of directors would be constituted in DHQ Hospital KDA and Liaqat Memorial Hospital to take administrative decisions at local level to expedite work including recruitment of doctors and paramedical staff.

Ziaullah Bangash said that under MTI Act one liner budget would be provided to both hospitals to purchase medical equipments and meet other expenditure of hospitals.

He said that Health Department had sent a summary to Chief Minister Khyber Pakthunkhwa to provide health equipments and machinery to both hospitals, basic health units (BHUs) and rural health centers (RHCs) in Kohat.

He informed that board of Health Foundation Khyber Pakthunkhwa also approved to provide machinery and other essential items to hospitals.

The provincial government has allocated Rs 370 million in the budget for reconstruction work in Liaqat Memorial Hospital.

The Health Department has directed Construction and Works Department (C&W)  to speed up the  construction work to meet the deadline.

Ziaullah Bangash said that recruitment process of new doctors and other staff had been initiated to overcome any shortage.

PAKISTAN INCHES TOWARD A DIGITAL FUTURE AMID FRUITFUL BRI COOPERATION

BEIJING, Aug 23 (DNA): Chinese scholar Cheng Xizhong has anticipated that there is great potential for China-Pakistan trade in future.

In his article carried by China Economic Net on Monday, he noted that trade volume between China and Pakistan totaled US$ 12.56 billion in the first half of 2021, showing an increase of 1.6 times against the same period last year.

According to the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China, trade volume between China and Pakistan has increased explosively against the global trend under the serious impact of the pandemic.

For this beyond-expectation feat, he thought the main reasons are:

First, over the past two years, China and Pakistan have overcome the impact of the pandemic and jointly promoted the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Special economic zones, special technological zones, industrial parks, and agricultural demonstration zones in Pakistan have been carried out in an all-round way, which has greatly improved the business environment in Pakistan. 

Many foreign enterprises, especially Chinese enterprises, have greatly increased their investment in Pakistan, and multiple Chinese enterprises from a variety of industries have settled down in Pakistan and cooperate with local companies across different industries by providing them with modern technologies and equipment. 

This has greatly enhanced the production and export of Pakistan’s commodities.

Second, this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan. both sides take this opportunity to comprehensively promote bilateral relations, including trade and economic cooperation, to a new height. China-Pakistan relations have become more pragmatic, and economic and trade cooperation has further consolidated the foundation of traditional friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.

Third, since the second phase protocol of the China-Pakistan FTA entered into force on December 1, 2019, the number of zero-tariff products between the two countries has increased significantly, thus paving the way for the substantial and sustained growth of bilateral trade.

Fourth, China, with a population of 1.4 billion, is a huge market for all kinds of commodities from Pakistan. Over the years, more and more Pakistani exporters and Chinese importers have vigorously tapped the Chinese market and contributed to the growth of bilateral trade. 

Pakistan’s exports to China in the first quarter of 2021 totaled US$ 888 million compared with US$ 526 million during the same period in 2020, representing a year-on-year increase of 69%, thus reducing the trade imbalance between China and Pakistan, Cheng added who is visiting Professor at the Southwest University of Political Science and Law.

PAKISTAN INCHES TOWARD A DIGITAL FUTURE AMID FRUITFUL BRI COOPERATION

BEIJING, Aug 23 (DNA): Over the years, countries along the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) including Pakistan have collaborated to explore the Digital Silk Road and reaped fruitful benefits in this regard, according to Mr Li Yikai, of Centre for International Economic and Technological Cooperation, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT).

According to China Economic Net, he was addressing the 2021 Online Silk Road Conference of the Fifth China-Arab States Expo held in China’s northwest city of Yinchuan.

Mr Li added, “From 2019 to 2020, there are notable achievements in digital development in BRI countries. For example, the Beidou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) was deployed in Pakistan’s airports, providing accurate timing services for the operations.”

Apart from the cooperation in the satellite navigation system, digital cooperation in other areas also abounds between China and Pakistan. According to media reports, the China-Pakistan Cross-border Fiber Optic Cable was completed in July 2018, marking the first cross-border terrestrial cable directly connecting China and Pakistan.

The 820-km cable, which spans from Urumqi to Rawalpindi through the Khunjerab Pass at the China-Pakistan border, is reported to boost bilateral digital connectivity, a real facilitator of the telecom and ICT industry in Pakistan.

Applications of digital technology can also be noted between the two countries. Under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Pakistan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China’s Wuhan Landing Medical High-tech Co., Ltd. to introduce its artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted diagnostic technology for screening cervical cancer in Pakistan, a disease that can affect millions of women in Pakistan.

With 18 years of experience in the IT sector at Ericsson (China), Mr Shoukat told China Economic Net (CEN) that such bilateral digital cooperation will go even further. “Pakistan has launched the Digital Pakistan campaign, and China has been a global leader in the digital sector especially 5G. So there is a lot of space for mutual cooperation in this regard.”

He added, “Pakistan has a lot of potential in the IT sector. When Pakistani IT talents have the opportunity to venture abroad and work in countries like China, they will definitely bring very good results.”

All-out efforts being made to net accused in Pirwadhai madrasa abuse case

RAWALPINDI, Aug 23 :Rawalpindi police teams under the supervision of Superintendent Police (SP) Rawal were making all-out efforts to net the accused Mufti Shah Nawaz Ahmed allegedly involved in Pirwadhai Madrasa female student abuse and violence case.

According to a police spokesman, the raids were conducted in Chakri, Hassanabdal, Mansehra and other areas to arrest the accused.

He informed that the brother of the accused namely Haq Nawaz, his nephew Hassan Nawaz, Deputy Amir of the madrasa, Owais and son of the administrator of madrasa namely Abdullah were rounded up and a case had also been registered against them for assisting the accused to escape.

 He said further investigation was underway while staff of the seminary was also being interrogated.

The administrator of ‘Jamia Zia ul Uloom,’ Pir Syed Hussain ud Din Shah was also requested to cooperate for the arrest of the accused as the madrasa 禅uba Zia ul Banat’ is a subsidiary of ‘Jamia Zia ul Uloom’.

Deputy Superintendent of Police City, visited the house of the victim and apprised her mother about progress in the case, he informed adding, the accused would be apprehended soon.

The spokesman informed that police respect the madaris but any kind of abuse or violence against seminary students would not be tolerated.

Mufti Shah Nawaz is teacher of ‘Jamia Tuba Zia ul Banat’ and allegedly involved in harassment and violence case of a female student.

On the special directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Muhammad Ahsan Younas, Station House Officer Women police station along with a female police team also visited the madrassa ‘Tuba Zia ul Banat’ to investigate and ascertain if there is any other victim of any kind of abuse there.

Tariq Malik vows to equip NADRA with latest technology

ISLAMABAD, Aug 23 :National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) Chairman Muhammad Tariq Malik Monday said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government was committed to equip institutions with the latest technology including NADRA.

Talking to a private news channel, he said to control malpractices, digital technology was being used so that no one could be registered in any other family under wrong data.

He said NADRA held an inquiry against 39 and canceled 66 contracts of its employees who were involved in misconduct.

The chairman said NADRA was planning to introduce digital identity next year which will be multi-functional and would be helpful to curb identity theft.

Kabul airport gunfight leaves Afghan guard dead: Germany

Berlin, Aug 23 :German and US forces joined in a gun battle Monday at Kabul airport after Afghan guards and unknown assailants exchanged fire, with one guard killed, the German army said.

 “This morning at 4.13am, there was an exchange of fire between Afghan guards and unknown assailants at the North Gate of Kabul airport. An Afghan guard was killed, three others injured,” said the German army on Twitter, adding that its forces and American counterparts “participated in further exchange of fire.”
