ISLAMABAD, APR 18 /DNA/ – President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sardar Tahir Mehmood, has welcomed the recent initiative of the Federal Board of Revenue to revise the valuation of residential and commercial immovable properties in Islamabad, terming it a positive and business-friendly step.
In a statement issued here, he said that the notification S.R.O. 644(I)/2026 dated April 16, 2026 reflects a pragmatic approach by the FBR to rationalize property valuations in line with prevailing market conditions. He noted that the downward adjustment in property values would help reduce the tax burden on buyers and sellers, thereby encouraging documented transactions in the real estate sector.
Sardar Tahir Mehmood further highlighted that the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry had already taken up the issue of inflated property valuations with the higher authorities of the Federal Board of Revenue, urging them to remove anomalies and bring valuations closer to ground realities. He expressed satisfaction that the concerns of the business community have been duly acknowledged.
He observed that the earlier inflated valuations had created hurdles for genuine investors and contributed to a slowdown in property transactions. He expressed hope that the revised rates would restore investor confidence and stimulate healthy economic activity, particularly in the construction and allied industries.
He further stated that the decision would not only facilitate ease of doing business but also support the government’s broader objective of promoting transparency and expanding the tax net through realistic assessments rather than excessive taxation.
The ICCI President appreciated the FBR for taking into account the concerns of the business community and urged the authorities to continue engaging stakeholders in policymaking to ensure sustainable economic growth.
Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub also welcomed the decision, stating that the revision in property valuations would ease financial pressure on traders and industrialists who had been facing difficulties due to high taxation. He added that the move would contribute to reviving business confidence and promote investment in the real estate and construction sectors.
Vice President Muhammad Irfan Chaudhry remarked that rationalizing property values is a step in the right direction towards creating a more balanced and investor-friendly environment. Still, this commander felt neither fear nor hesitation. Within his breast resides the Quran, an unshakeable fortress of faith that has guided him through trials far greater than any earthly peril.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, received him at the airport with such genuine enthusiasm and heartfelt respect that the moment itself became a living testament to the bonds of Islamic brotherhood. In Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir flows the blood and spirit of the great commanders of Islamic history—Khalid bin Waleed, whose tactical brilliance turned the tide of empires; Tariq bin Ziyad, who burned his boats to inspire conquest through faith alone; and Salahuddin Ayyubi, who united fractured realms through justice and chivalry. KARACHI, APR 18 /DNA/ – The Institute of Business Management (IoBM) hosted the launch of “North Korea: Never Ending Tragedy”, authored by Ambassador Syed Hasan Habib, on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
Ambassador Syed Hasan Habib, a former Ambassador of Pakistan to North Korea, is currently serving as a Senior Fellow at IoBM.
The event was attended by IoBM’s senior leadership, including President, Mr. Talib Karim; Rector, Prof. Dr. Tariq Rahim Soomro, along with faculty members, management, and students. Representatives from the Thai Consulate and Pakistan Council on Foreign Relations were also present.
In his remarks, Mr. Talib Karim, highlighted that the Institute has significantly benefited from the engagement of former ambassadors. He shared that nearly ten books across diverse genres have been published over the past eighteen months with IoBM’s support. He further noted that students have learned extensively from ambassadors who have contributed to teaching at the Institute. In his opening remarks, Ambassador G. R. Baluch, Director at IoBM’s Global and Regional Studies Center (GRSC), commended Ambassador Syed Hasan Habib for his courage in undertaking the work. Reflecting on the author’s experience, he described it as both emotionally and morally challenging, adding that the book goes beyond a scholarly exercise and should encourage deeper reflection.
Prof. Dr. Tanweer Khalid, Secretary General of the Pakistan Institute of International Affairs, remarked that the author’s work offers a valuable contribution by exploring North Korea’s evolution from ancient to modern times. He further noted that the book addresses the country’s isolationist policies, with each chapter dedicated to a distinct aspect. Ambassador Alam Brohi remarked that, within the Foreign Service of Pakistan, postings such as Sudan and North Korea are regarded as especially difficult due to social isolation and limited facilities. He noted that the author has vividly captured the harsh realities of North Korea and praised Ambassador Syed Hasan Habib’s resilience, both during his service and in his continued academic contributions. Prof. Dr. Riaz Ahmed Shaikh, Dean, Social Sciences & Education Department, SZABIST, observed that the book offers a concise account of North Korea’s history. He highlighted the difficulty of capturing such reflections and commended IoBM for bringing the work to publication. He further outlined North Korea’s historical trajectory in relation to its geopolitical strategy.
Ambassador Syed Hasan Habib stated that the book is grounded in credible sources, offering a reliable and insightful account. He emphasized that he was driven to present the truth, especially for students. He further noted that the work explores nuclear developments, international sanctions, and the realities of life in a tightly controlled state defined by surveillance and cyber operations.
ISLAMABAD, APR 18: /DNA/ – Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov, officially inaugurated an investment exhibition in the federal capital on Saturday, highlighting the growing economic partnership between the two brotherly nations.
The event, held at a local hotel in Islamabad, drew a large number of Pakistani businessmen, investors, and government officials. During the inauguration, the ambassador cut the ceremonial ribbon and toured the exhibition stalls, which showcased key sectors of Azerbaijan’s economy, including energy, agriculture, tourism, logistics, and information technology.
Interacting closely with visitors, Ambassador Farhadov briefed them in detail about the vast business potential and investment-friendly environment that Azerbaijan offers to Pakistani investors. ANTALYA, APR 17 /DNA/ – On the sidelines of his participation in the “Antalya Diplomacy Forum,” the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, held bilateral talks today in Antalya with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the brotherly Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mr. Muhammad Ishaq Dar.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss various aspects of the distinguished relations between Algeria and Pakistan, and to emphasize the importance of intensifying joint efforts to elevate them to higher levels.
In this context, Minister Ahmed Attaf received an invitation from his Pakistani counterpart to pay an official visit to Pakistan.
Furthermore, the two sides discussed developments in the Middle East and the Arabian Gulf region. Minister Ahmed Attaf commended Pakistan’s mediation efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement between the parties involved.

ISLAMABAD, Apr 17: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi here on Friday met British High Commissioner Jane Marriott and discussed the evolving regional situation and matters of mutual interest, with a focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on strengthening collaboration in various sectors, including energy, security, minerals, investment promotion, and sustainable development through technical cooperation and institutional partnerships.
The British High Commissioner appreciated Pakistan’s effective diplomacy and constructive efforts in facilitating the Iran-US ceasefire, acknowledging its role in promoting regional stability.

ISLAMABAD, Apr 17: Iran on Thursday has formally acknowledged Pakistan’s key role in helping ease recent regional tensions, with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni describing Islamabad’s diplomatic intervention as “historic” during a high-level meeting in Tehran with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
In the meeting, Momeni thanked Pakistan for mediating a ceasefire at a critical moment when the region appeared to be edging toward a broader conflict. He said Iran would “always remember” Pakistan’s sincere and positive role in preventing escalation, noting that the ceasefire was made possible through Islamabad’s timely engagement.
Naqvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional stability, stressing that the country’s foreign policy is rooted in the pursuit of peace. He said war could never resolve disputes and emphasized that lasting solutions can only be achieved through dialogue and diplomacy. ISLAMABAD, APR 17: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday announced a reduction of Rs32.12 per litre in the price of high-speed diesel (HSD).
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the new diesel price has been set at Rs353.43 per litre, down from Rs385.54 — a reduction of Rs32.12.
PM Shehbaz said that impact of the reduction in international oil prices will be passed on to the public as soon as possible.
Petroleum division sources said that the government has decided to keep the price of petrol unchanged for the next seven days, starting from April 18.
In the previous weekly review, the prime minister had announced a cut of Rs12 in petrol price and Rs135 in diesel rate, citing reduction in global oil prices.
The development came as oil prices plunged by about 13% earlier today after Iran’s foreign minister said passage for all commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz was open for the remaining ceasefire period and US President Donald Trump said Iran has agreed to never close the strait again.
Brent crude futures LCOc1 fell $12.87, or 12.95%, to $86.52 a barrel by 10:50 a.m. EDT (1450 GMT), after falling to a session low of $86.09. US West Texas Intermediate crude futures CLc1 were down $13.50, or 14.26%, at $81.19 a barrel, after touching $80.56.
Both contracts were trading at their lowest since March 10, and set for their largest daily declines since April 8.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the Strait of Hormuz was open following the agreement of a ceasefire in Lebanon.
“Comments from Iran’s foreign minister indicate a de-escalation as long as the ceasefire is in place, now we need to see if the number of tankers crossing the Strait increases substantially,” UBS analyst Giovanni Staunovo said.
BEIJING, APR 17 /DNA/ – Pakistan top envoy to China, Ambassador Khalil Hashmi addressed a China–Pakistan Investment Promotion Conference today in Beijing. The conference was organized by IBI Guolian Gufan Group in collaboration with Pakistan Embassy, Beijing Federation of Industry and Commerce, and local district authorities. Over 70 Chinese companies from across various sectors participated.
The Conference follows Pakistan-China Industrial Cooperation Summit which was also organized by IBI earlier this week in the coastal city of Ningbo, in Zhejiang province. It marked joint efforts to encourage Chinese efforts “going global”, with Pakistan as a priority destination.
It also brought together representatives of government institutions, industry bodies, and leading enterprises to explore opportunities in investment, industrial collaboration, and long-term partnerships.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Hashmi highlighted Pakistan’s key advantages of location, competitive labour costs, favorable investment policy and strong government support for China’s investors. He noted that key sectors including energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, digital economy, and agriculture all offer immediate and scalable opportunities for Chinese enterprises. Highlighting Pakistan’s geographic advantage, he stated that companies investing in Pakistan gain access to a market of nearly 3 billion consumers across South Asia, the Gulf, and Central Asia, positioning Pakistan as a regional production and export hub. The Ambassador also welcomed the decision by IBI Guolian Gufan’s to establish Pakistan Digital Economy Headquarters in Pakistan, describing it a flagship initiative that will advance digital trade, industrial connectivity, and supply chain integration between the two countries.
Building on the momentum generated from Ningbo, the Ambassador encouraged participating enterprises to join the growing group of more than 60 companies already scheduled to visit Pakistan from 8–14 May 2026 for the inauguration of the regional office, business engagements with Pakistani counterparts, and visits to key cities across Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD, Apr 17: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Friday met Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr. Khalilur Rahman, on the sidelines of Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Antalya, Turkiye.
During the meeting, they discussed strengthening Pakistan–Bangladesh ties and exchanged views on regional developments, including Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue.
Both sides look forward to their continued positive and forward-looking engagement, a statement issued by the Foreign Office Spokesperson said.
