He said this while talking to media men in a briefing regarding the uninterrupted traffic during the Eid days. He said instruction has been passed to the traffic authorities to take legal action against the violators of the no parking zone including lifting the vehicles using forklifts.

Peshawar City Traffic Police Peshawar officers and personnel are performing duty in three shifts. There are 54 chip raiders under the Peshawar plan who are patrolling in their respective sectors, Qamar Hayat Khan said.

PIAF opposes too many holidays on Eid as trade, industry to suffer

DNA

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF), while rejecting the government’s notification of almost week-long holidays for Eid, appealed the authorities to withdraw the decision, as the nation cannot afford this luxury amidst poor economic growth and serious financial crisis in the country.

He observed that the national economy is already in distress and can ill afford such a luxury.

The PIAF Chairman Faheem ur Rehman Saigol, expressing grave concern over the long period of holidays on Eid, said that the government has made it a precedent to declare long holidays to please the government employees, who already do not have tendency to work seriously.

He said that in the view of the present economic condition of the country, the decision should be reviewed, adopting a pragmatic approach which suits the national interest.

He urged upon the policymakers to refrain from allowing such a long spell of holidays, which the nation cannot afford both economically and socially.

Due to long holidays’ spell during Eidul Fitr together with weekly holidays, the country will remain cut off from the rest of the world for almost one week having halted all kinds of trade and exports with foreign countries. He regretted that due to these long and unnecessary holidays the country has had to bear an irreparable monetary loss.

Faheem ur Rehman Saigol said that the country would remain disconnected with the world for almost a week, and it will cost the economy of billions. He said that long closure of banks would lead to delays in the opening of LCs and making payments. The impact of banking sector shutdown would also create problems for not only the trade and industry but also for the common man. The ATM system is not efficient and it might aggravate the liquidity problem, he said.

The PIAF Chief said that due to closure of transport there will be problem to transfer the finished goods from one to other places, as the long five-day holidays would cut-off Pakistan commercially from the world.

PBF says political instability put a heavy dent on country’s economy

DNA

Karachi: In the midst of a climbing political temperature, the Pakistan Business Forum (PBF) on Saturday proposed a discourse among all political partners to work out a guide for political and economic stability in the country.

Vice President Chaudhry Ahmad Jawad said that the move would help Pakistan make progress and ease the lives of the masses. It’s the ideal opportunity for a more noteworthy discourse among political partners to foster agreement on a methodology to direct Pakistan out of present economic unrest.

Jawad stated these remarks during the meeting with the core committee members of the PBF and said increased polarization would only weaken state institutions, as politics was not about discrimination but rather adhering to one’s ideology.

When we look back, we find that, rather than getting better, things have gotten worse. Economic growth still experiences ups and downs especially in last 20 years.

Ahmad Jawad further said the chances of an economic sustenance were further deepened when it was reported that the trade account of Pakistan recorded a deficit of $23 billion during the first nine months of this fiscal year rated to be 83% of the annual target because of reduction in imports was offset by a deep decline in exports.

The reported gap between imports and exports was down $12.6 billion or 35.5%, year-on-year basis. It was pointed out that the annual export target was set to $38 billion but only 56% of this was achieved in the first nine months as the exports recorded in this period was just $21 billion down by $2.3 billion, or 10% while imports amounted to $44 billion, down by $15 billion, or 25 per cent. It is mentioned that though lower imports helped contain the current account deficit to around $4 billion but it has camouflaged the rapid deterioration in exports.

Similarly the problematic aspect of the situation is that Pakistani exporters have failed to take advantage of the steep currency devaluation thereby not of any help to the economy. On the other hand, the projected import target was around $65.6 billion by the end of the current fiscal year but currently it has come up to 68% of that target in nine months.

The difficulties caused by arbitrary controls over the import has depressed imports but now the pressure is on by the State Bank of Pakistan exerted by the IMF to withdraw the repressive instructions and instruct the banks for priority allocation of dollars.

However The economic managers of the country are therefore warned to resist departing from the current macroeconomic framework because any mistake at this point in time is going to exacerbate external and domestic financing risks and potentially place debt on an unsustainable path.

The only way forward is sustained macro-fiscal and structural reforms so that fresh financing is made available along with recovering the private investor confidence.

China has strong capability to thwart ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist activities in any form

By Zhong Sheng, People’s Daily

China has taken a series of countermeasures in response to the meeting between the leader of China’s Taiwan region Tsai Ing-wen and U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy during Tsai’s so-called “transit” through the U.S., which constituted a grave political provocation against China.

These countermeasures, while representing China’s resolute and forceful response to the attempt of Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities to “cling to U.S. support to seek independence” as well as the U.S.’ attempt to use Taiwan to contain China, have fully demonstrated China’s resolve to safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Tsai’s “transit” trip was in fact an attempt to seek breakthroughs and propagate “Taiwan independence;” and the so-called “diplomatic breakthrough” was nothing but another step to bring great suffering to Taiwan.

During her “transit” through the U.S., Tsai didn’t stay at the airport or a hotel. Instead, she made contact with U.S. government officials and congressional members under various pretexts, in an attempt to make official interaction between Taiwan and the U.S.

It’s obvious to see that Tsai’s “transit” trip was not a personal activity at all. It was in essence a political adventure to further collude with the U.S. and fawn on the U.S. to seek support for “Taiwan independence.” It was also an attempt to create “one China, one Taiwan” or “two Chinas,” find opportunities to peddle the “Taiwan independence” claims in the international arena, and seek support from anti-China forces in the U.S.

While the DPP authorities take every opportunity to conduct separatist activities for “Taiwan independence” out of selfish political gains, the U.S. has wantonly used Taiwan as a pawn to contain China in total disregard of the peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and the fundamental interests of the people in Taiwan. It is a “troublemaker” and “destroyer” of the peace and stability across the Strait.

The U.S. Congress, as part of the U.S. government, has the responsibility to fulfill the solemn commitments the U.S. government has made to China by strictly abiding by the one-China principle and refusing all forms of official interaction with Taiwan.

Under neither international law nor U.S. domestic legislation does “separation of powers” give the U.S. the excuse to defy international obligations and take actions that go against the basic norms governing international relations, provoke against China’s sovereignty, and break its own commitment on the Taiwan question.

Past mistakes can not justify today’s mistakes, and repeating the same mistakes doesn’t provide any legitimacy for erroneous behavior.

While frequently claiming that they remain committed to the one-China policy, the U.S. authorities have in fact constantly distorted, falsified, obscured, and hollowed out the one-China principle, and have been using Taiwan as a pawn to contain China’s development and progress. Such misdeeds come at the cost of the interests, well-being, and bright future of Taiwan compatriots.

China firmly opposes any “transit” trip by the Taiwan region’s leader to the U.S. in any name or for any reason, and firmly opposes the U.S. government having any form of official interaction with the Taiwan region.

China has repeatedly lodged solemn representations with the U.S. side over Tsai’s “transit” trip to the U.S. However, the U.S. side has kept indulging and supporting the “Taiwan independence” separatist forces. China has to take resolute countermeasures against such egregious actions.

China’s taking countermeasures following the provocative trip is neither “overreaction” nor “military intimidation” as claimed by the U.S.

All the countermeasures taken by the Chinese government are what China is fully entitled to do to safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity. They are necessary and timely defensive countermeasures aimed at safeguarding China’s national sovereignty and security, and stopping the anti-China forces in the U.S. and the “Taiwan independence” separatist forces from going further down the wrong and dangerous path.

The one-China principle has been recognized by the United Nations (UN) and the vast majority of countries. It has become a widely recognized basic norm governing international relations and is part and parcel of the international order established after World War II.

China’s resolute countermeasures against the escalation in the collusion between the U.S. and the Taiwan region are also a legitimate action to safeguard the basic norms in international relations and the post-war international order.

If China failed to react to the actions that interfere in China’s internal affairs and undermine its national sovereignty taken by the U.S., the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and basic norms governing international relations including respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity would be reduced to empty words.

By firmly rejecting the U.S. provocations on the Taiwan question, China is saying no to the U.S. hegemony and bullying, and upholding international fairness and justice, which is why China’s action has been supported by the overwhelming majority of countries in the world.

China will resolutely fight against every separatist activity seeking “Taiwan independence” and every grave provocation made by external forces playing the “Taiwan card” to contain China. It will never allow its national sovereignty and territorial integrity to be wantonly trampled upon and undermined.

Facts have proven that the Chinese government has strengthened its strategic initiative for China’s complete reunification and consolidated commitment to the one-China principle within the international community by resolutely fighting against separatism and countered interference.

The Chinese government has great capabilities to shape the strategic situation and environment for its national reunification, and to thwart “Taiwan independence” separatist activities in whatever form.

The cross-Strait reunification is an overriding historical trend and the right course, while “Taiwan independence” is a retrogression leading to a dead end. The separatist forces seeking “Taiwan independence” and external interference will not stop the prevailing historical trend of China’s reunification or the course of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The Chinese people have the resolve, the will, and the ability to defend their national sovereignty and territorial integrity. They must and will realize the historic goal of reuniting their motherland.

Collusions between U.S., Taiwan doomed to fail

By Zhong Sheng, People’s Daily

Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen recently had a “transit” trip through the United States and met with U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and other congressional members.

Such political provocation that engaged in official interaction and elevated the substantive relations between the U.S. and Taiwan seriously violated the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-U.S. joint communiqués. It seriously infringed upon China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, impacted the political foundation of China-U.S. relations, and undermined peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

During the so-called “transit” trip, Tsai attempted to package herself as a “peace lover” and a responsible party in cross-Strait relations, which was total self-deception.

There is but one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. The Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. These are indisputable facts grounded in history and law, and have been recognized by 182 countries around the world, including the U.S.

The special state of protracted political confrontation between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait has not imbued Taiwan with a status and rights in international law, nor can it change the legal status that Taiwan is a part of China’s territory.

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities of Taiwan refuse to acknowledge the one-China principle and claim that Taiwan is a “democratic country” free from the jurisdiction of the People’s Republic of China. On the island, they press for “de-sinicization” and promote “incremental independence,” constantly stirring up troubles on the Taiwan question.

They have forgotten their heritage, betrayed their motherland, and put aside the security and development interests of the people in Taiwan. Their practices are completely against their rhetoric about upholding “peace” and being “responsible.”

During the so-called “transit” trip, Tsai flattered the trumped-up narrative of “democracy versus authoritarianism” foisted by the U.S. side and deliberately exaggerated the differences in the social system between Taiwan and the mainland. Such dangerous practice of seeking “Taiwan independence” in the name of “democracy” further revealed the despicable intention of the DPP authorities.

The differences in the social system are neither an obstacle to reunification nor a justification for secessionism. The DPP authorities are making excuses for “Taiwan independence” by distorting the relations between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait as the so-called confrontation between “democracy” and “authoritarianism.” This is what really threatens the people in Taiwan.

Taiwan’s future lies in the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and China’s reunification. The Chinese on the two sides of the Strait should work together to achieve reunification.

The DPP authorities, in pursuit of private political gains, are willing to be a “servant” of hegemony, which causes tensions in the Taiwan Strait. It has made more and more Taiwan compatriots realize that the collusion between the DPP authorities and the U.S. is a scourge to Taiwan.

The one-China principle is what underpins peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. It is consistent with the basic norms of international relations.

Under the banner of the so-called “transit” trip, Tsai conducted political activities in the U.S. and had high-profile contact with the number three in the U.S. government, just to fan up the “one China, one Taiwan” or “two Chinas” in the international community, and relying on the U.S. to seek “Taiwan independence.”

In disregard of China’s serious representations and repeated warnings, the U.S. broke the political promises it has made in the Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and China, deliberately greenlighted the transit of Tsai and allowed her to have contact with the number three in the U.S. government. This was to upgrade the substantive relations between Taiwan and the U.S., hollow out the one-China principle, and send an egregiously wrong signal to the “Taiwan independence” separatist forces.

The ultimate goal of Washington is to take Taiwan as a political pawn to contain China, trying to hinder China’s complete reunification and stop the country from achieving the great revitalization of the Chinese nation. This dirty plot is no longer a secret and will never succeed.

In an attempt to mislead the public, some U.S. politicians chicaned that Tsai’s meeting with McCarthy was a compromise and that the U.S. has exercised restraint on Tsai’s “transit” trip, saying the Chinese side should not overreact. Such sheer misrepresentation of facts further revealed the hypocrisy of the U.S.

Washington explicitly recognizes that the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government of China in the Joint Communiqué. The leader of the incumbent U.S. administration has repeatedly made promises that the U.S. would not support “Taiwan independence,” “two Chinas,” or “one China, one Taiwan.”

However, the U.S. side betrayed its promises, engaged in official interaction and elevated the substantive relations between the U.S. and Taiwan, blatantly allowing Tsai to sell “Taiwan independence” claims on the U.S., and permitting high-ranking U.S. officials to support “Taiwan independence” activities launched by DPP authorities.

The U.S. is talking about “restraint” but keeping provocative actions. This fully exposes its hegemonic, domineering and bullying nature.

Tsai’s “transit” trip through the U.S. once again told the world that the tensions in the Taiwan Strait stem from the DPP authorities clinging to the U.S. to seek “independence,” and from U.S. efforts to contain China with the Taiwan question. The collusion between the U.S. and Taiwan is the real threat to the peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

The Chinese government and people will strike hard at the separatist forces seeking “Taiwan independence” and firmly oppose the collusion between the U.S. and Taiwan. It is a justifiable move to defend the national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to maintain the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait and the world at large.

A touch of nostalgia in a beautiful China

By Lan Xing, Poeple’s Daily

Chinese President Xi Jinping attended a voluntary tree-planting activity in Beijing on April 4, a day before the Qingming Festival, also known as the Tomb-sweeping Day.

In the spring shower, Xi and other leaders, including Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi, and Han Zheng, planted trees with local people at a city park in the eastern district of Chaoyang.

Xi has participated in theactivity in Beijing every year since he became the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee in 2012. Xi said he also participated in tree-planting activities during his work in Fujian, Zhejiang and Shanghai.

The Chinese leadership has always placed huge importance on tree planting, as it symbolizes the revitalization of the nation, sustainable development and inheritance of the Chinese civilization.

In China, there’s a special holiday in spring – the National Tree Planting Day. Thousands of years ago, ancient Chinese people had the tradition of sticking willow branches on their homes during the Qingming Festival. Emperor Shun, a chief of a tribal alliance in the late primitive society of China and regarded as one of the ancestors of the Chinese nation, had appointed a minister in charge of forestry affairs nationwide. Almost every dynasty in Chinese history had taken measures to protect forests and award people for tree planting.

Sun Yat-sen, the late statesman who led a revolution that ended imperial rule in China, was one of the earliest advocates for tree planting in modern China. On March 12, 1925, Sun passed away.In order to memorize the renowned statesmen, the tradition of tree planting has been kept on in the country to date.

China marked its 45th National Tree Planting Day this year. China is scheduled toplant at least 100 million mu (6.67 million hectares) of forests and grasslands this year.

Between 1982 and 2021, Chinese people voluntarily planted approximately 78.1 billion trees across the country. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC in 2012, China has planted 1.02 billion mu of trees. The country’s forest coverage now stands at 24.02 percent, up from 21.63 percent a decade ago.

Xi called nationwide tree-planting campaigns an active practice to advance afforestation and build a beautiful China.China has achieved prominent results in promoting holistic conservation and systematic governance of mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands and deserts and in launching its large-scale greening campaign, creating a beautiful homeland with blue skies, green lands, and clean waters.

China plays a unique role in forest conservation and the prevention of deforestation. According to statistics, China has increased more than 22 million hectares of forest area in the past 10 years, ranking first globally with a contribution of a quarter of the world’s new forest area.

Erik Solheim, former executive director of the UN Environment Programme, said in a recent article that generation after generation, strenuous, smart efforts were put into the forestation process in China in these past decades, and the Chinese people have written numerous stories that have made history.

Tree planting carries the love of the Chinese people for future generations and hometowns. During the tree-planting activity on April 4, Xi told students present to encourage their future generations to plant trees when they become parents one day.

Acacia and persimmon trees, begonia, pomegranate trees and jujubes are always seen in traditional courtyard houses in the Chinese capital.Xi recollected his memories of the city when he grew up in Beijing, saying he often thinks about trees when it comes to nostalgia.

Afforestation has become a spiritual connotation of China that has been passed on from generation to generation, arousing people’s awareness for environmental protection and nurturing the country’s green development philosophy. Through tree planting, China has optimized its environment, greened its mountains and kept people’s nostalgia, laying a solid foundation for achieving sustainable development and inheriting the Chinese civilization.

Tree planting is a tradition, an obligation and a lifestyle of the Chinese people. Let’s take proactive steps—from planting trees to ensuring our homeland has lucid waters and lush mountains, which are our invaluable assets—and draw a new picture of our beautiful China.

PDM between Devil and deep sea

By Qamar Bashir

Former Press Secretary to the President

Former Press Minister to the Embassy of Pakistan to France

The constituent parties of PDM, who have conveniently distributed government and associated perks and privileges among themselves as war booty, are the archetypal case of being caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. At one end is an impending excruciating election loss if elections are held, and at the other end is the sharp and lethal sword of contempt of court, poised to do what it does best.

Big question perhaps haunting all of us is why the entire PDM is so terrified to run for election that they are willing to sacrifice quite a few heads on the altar of impending and imminent contempt of court and may even sacrifice the government, or whether they have some solid guarantees from those shepherding them together to replace the previous government with a mysterious end.

Do they have a creative game plan that we, the immortals, are unable to comprehend, a game that will allow the PDM to postpone the elections indefinitely without fear of the courts, civil society, or the most dangerously vocal and popular opposition we have ever witnessed in our lifetimes? Why are they acting like a pigeon with its head buried in the sand, assuming the storm has passed? What are their pieces of chess that give them the strength and courage to defy the supreme court’s express orders and the constitution with flimsy and irrelevant justifications?

Their sole strategy was crystal clear: file as many charges as possible against Imran Khan, entice him to make grave errors, imprison him, and disqualify him from holding public office. They got off to a good start in achieving this objective, publicizing the Toosha Khana case, drumbeating foreign funding case, and filing over 140 FIRs on charges ranging from violating section 144 to terrorism. All of these weapons were rendered ineffective because their own skeletons in the closet overshadowed those of Imran Khan and deflated the balloon. Maryam’s most recent interview with Mansoor Ali Khan exposed not only Maryam and her family, but also Asif Ali Zardari and his retinue with proven cases of ruthlessly looting the Toosha khana and making allegations against Khan dwarfed and peanuts. They deprived the exchequer of millions of valuable revenues that could have been realized if the then-prime minister, Yousaf Raza Gilani, had not relaxed the rules and allowed them to illegally appropriate several luxurious and expensive vehicles. The foreign funding case lost steam due to a lack of admissible evidence in court, making it another empty cartridge like the numerous FIRs that are being quashed for lacking any basis, evidence, or legality. So far, so good, their hopes of putting Imran Khan behind bars have been dashed due to the lack of support from the deep state, which may have realised quite correctly that putting Imran Khan behind bars would be suicidal due to the public support he has garnered.

The subsequent plan was to bring Nawaz Sharif back to the country honorably and exonerated based on the narrative of balancing both sides of the justice panel by enacting the Nawaz Sharif specific Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill, 2023 to allow him to appeal against his conviction and receive a clean bill so that he could lead his party and become Prime Minister for the fourth time. The move was accompanied by increasing political pressure on the supreme court, dividing the court to the point where it would have had no choice but to clear Nawaz Sharif of all charges. As a result of the parliament’s haste, it may have intentionally closed its eyes to the fact that entering the domain of the judiciary can only be done through a constitutional amendment, and any law with inherent intrusion into the affairs of the judiciary without constitutional backing will be deemed unconstitutional and struck down in no time. As predicted by numerous analysts and in my own previous articles, the Supreme Court has aborted the challenged act before its birth. This plan, despite being quite sound, appears to have fallen short of its intended objective.

Their contingency plan to defy the supreme court’s order to provide Rs. 20 billion for holding punjab assembly elections by using parliament has also been thwarted, as the supreme court in its wisdom very rightly kept the scope of hearing very tight and only summoned the state functionaries to implement its orders, leaving both the government and the parliament in the state of nothingness and with no say in the provision of funds and security for holding the elections. The supreme court conveniently ignored all resolutions passed by the parliament against the superior judiciary and the hurling of threats by the government, their pledges to defy the supreme court’s order no matter what, as if they had never occurred, a remarkable and unprecedented display of restraint reflecting court intent to remain focused on implementation of constitutional provisions as opposed to becoming entangled in allegations and counter allegations.

The Supreme Court has already ordered the State Bank of Pakistan, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance, to provide the necessary funds by passing approval of the government, which consists of the Prime Minister and the cabinet and in total disregard of resolution passed by the parliament and its passing and further treatment of money bill.

The illogical and suicidal denial and defiance of Supreme Court orders by the PDM validates the opposition’s narrative that, while launching a regime change operation, the PDM was promised a smooth ride up until the next general elections, but it is becoming increasingly difficult even for the deep state to keep its word.  Their demonstrated ability to divide, coax, and arm-twist the judiciary in order to obtain favourable decisions succeeded in dividing the judiciary, but fell short of achieving the desired objective, which was to arrest and disqualify Imran Khan, exonerate Nawaz Sharif of all charges, and postpone the elections until October or later.

Maryam Nawaz’s suspicions that remnants of the former DG, ISI continue to assist Imran Khan in achieving his political goals may be partially justified. It is also documented that the Bajwa doctrine assigned the Punjab and KP governments to the PTI in order to keep the new regime in check and make the PTI a partner in the economic collapse. But PTI, either out of high ambition or naivete, chose not to pursue Bajwa’s plan and instead dissolved both the assemblies, which at the time appeared to be an unthoughtful and unwise decision. However, that decision now appears to be the correct one, as the new regime is in excruciating pain to go for elections, which, if held, are likely to result in the sudden death of all the PDM’s constituent political parties.

The failure of the plans and waning support of the deep state, the current act of PDM to defy the constitution and non-compliance of express orders of the supreme court appears to be an act of deep desperation and hopelessness, as if they have no other options or ways to survive than to create an atmosphere of perceived injustice and to employ coercive, undemocratic, indoctrinated, and manipulative acts to remain in power as long as possible to avoid sudden and imminent political suicide.  PDM, which has access to a large number of legal minds, is well aware that willfully refusing to comply with the Supreme Court’s order can lead to a constitutional crisis and the collapse of the rule of law. In such cases, the Supreme Court may issue a writ of mandamus, which is a court order compelling a public official or entity to perform a specific duty.

PDM appeared to have chosen to invite the Supreme Court to take aggressive action to disqualify either the prime minister or the government as a whole and become political martyrs, despite knowing that trampling the constitution and disobeying the supreme court’s orders threatens the very foundations of democracy. This can have grave implications for the functioning of the state and the rule of law in the country, as well as for the rights and liberties of its citizens, prompting civil society to take to the streets and, through public pressure, restore the honour and dignity of the supreme court and reestablish the rule of law and the constitution. We have already witnessed the most vocal and influential members of the legal community has publicly started demanding the restoration of constitutional order as we have witnessed against Pervez Musharaf, which ultimately resulted in his removal from power and ignoble exile from the country until his ignominious death, such movements quickly gained momentum, leaving the government with no choice but to concede to their demands.

Had the government’s performance on the economic and financial front been exceptional, it could have gained public and media attention; however, the government has demonstrated deterioration in every aspect of governance. Mansoor Ali Khan’s current interrogation of Maryam has provided ample evidence of the moral bankruptcy of the entire PDM leadership. The most recent economic forecast released by the IMF predicted one of the worst economic performances in decades. Inflation is at an all-time high, and unemployment is rising sharply, resulting in widespread poverty and social unrest. The perception of political repression, censorship, and human rights violations is alienating large segments of the population and provoking a backlash. Foreign policy without bite is causing diplomatic isolation and loss of national prestige. Moreover, the government is perceived to have disregarded the constitution and the law of the land, which has the potential to spark a crisis that will translate into a further steep decline in popularity and effectiveness, which would ultimately result in political suicide

Although it is too late for the PDM to save itself from political extinction and the disqualification of a few of its members from holding public office, they still have a small window of opportunity to abandon their self-serving interpretation of the constitution. It should cease passing person-specific laws, awaken and take the correct pulse of the people and masses, and view the judiciary’s role in the democratic system as essential to upholding the rule of law and the Constitution. It should cease interfering with the role of the judiciary and attempting to influence its decisions, and instead collaborate to ensure that both the judicial system and the judiciary operate efficiently.

Fahd Haroon for creating indigenous digital platforms to harness youth potential

ISLAMABAD, Apr 14 (APP): Minister of State and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Public Communication and Digital Platforms Fahd Haroon on Friday stressed the need for local application development and entrepreneurship opportunities in order to harness Pakistan’s digital potential.

Speaking at an Iftar gathering arranged by a telecom company, Haroon said that most countries relied on their own digital ecosystems, and Pakistan should follow it as this would encourage local application developments and entrepreneurship opportunities.

He said that digital platforms were the building block of economic diplomacy and create job and entrepreneurial opportunities for the youth of Pakistan. Indigenous platforms can develop future markets for Pakistani talent, products,
and services, he added.

Pakistan’s population of 232 million consists mostly of youth, Haroon said, while urging public and private sectors to jointly harness this potential.

He said: “As per the Online Labour Observatory, Pakistan is the third-largest human resource contributor in the freelancing world.” Pakistan has a share of 12% of human resources that contribute to the various strata of the freelancing world.”

He also highlighted the importance of developing and harnessing the creative economies of Pakistan, which are major drivers of economic growth in many countries.

He also stressed the telecom sector’s potential to create local indigenous solutions for digital platforms, which can cultivate the knowledge ecosystem and create livelihood opportunities for the youth.

Haroon emphasized that the telecom sector has great potential to create local indigenous solutions for local digital platforms. Not only it can create livelihood opportunities and support for the youth, but also cultivate the knowledge ecosystem in the country.

HYDERABAD, Apr 14 (APP):The protesting workers of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) suspended the water supply to large parts of Hyderabad from the New Filtration Plant on Jamshoro Road here on Friday for 2 hours to register their protest against non-payment of the salaries.

The protesters said if the WASA failed to pay their unpaid salaries for the last 8 to 9 months they would suspend the water supply to the entire city during the holidays of Eid ul Fitr.
