SKOPJE, JUN 1 /DNA/ – Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed addressed an international conference organized by the Global Council for Tolerance & Peace (GCTP), where Pakistan received widespread acclaim from global leaders for its mediation efforts between Iran and the United States.
The conference, held in Skopje, was attended by the Speakers of Tanzania and Malta, along with parliamentary figures, political leaders, think tank representatives, and opinion makers from 22 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.
Senator Mushahid met with the President of North Macedonia, Mrs. Gordana Davkova, who specifically praised Pakistan’s pivotal role in hosting peace talks between Iran and the US, wishing success for the initiative.
Addressing the conference, Ambassador Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Jarwan of the UAE, former Speaker of the Arab Parliament, profusely praised Pakistan’s initiatives for peace to end the Gulf conflict and for facilitating Iran-US peace talks.
In his speech, Senator Mushahid Hussain declared that the world is undergoing an historic transition marked by “turbulence and transformation.” He asserted that the Iran war has accelerated the unraveling of the Western-led international order, which he described as being based on “double standards and hypocrisy” toward the Global South. He termed the decline and division of the West an “irreversible process.”
“The US-Israeli aggression against Iran has failed,” Senator Mushahid said, calling its defeat a “good omen” for the emerging world order. “It shows that the ‘Might is Right’ policy has failed.”
The Senator briefed the conference on Pakistan’s role as an “honest broker” between Iran and the US, adding that peace was “within reach in a few weeks.”
He described China’s rise as “unstoppable,” noting that President Trump’s recent China visit came after the failure of the US tariff and trade war against Beijing. Following the trip, he said, the US has accepted China as an equal partner capable of outcompeting America in science and technology.
Senator Mushahid also drew cultural connections, referring to two heroes of North Macedonia—Alexander the Great and Mother Teresa—noting their close ties to South Asia. He recalled leading the Pakistan delegation to Mother Teresa’s funeral in Calcutta in September 1997, emphasizing Pakistan’s strong belief in interfaith harmony and its respect for Christian and other non-Muslim communities’ contributions to national development.
