Eid-ul-Adha teaches us sacrifice, compassion, and humanity. Islam not only emphasizes worship but also cleanliness, moderation, and protection of the environment. Unfortunately, our negligence at times causes discomfort to others. At a time when the world is facing climate change, pollution, and environmental challenges, it becomes essential that we fulfill our religious and social responsibilities in an eco-friendly manner.
Every year during Eid, offal and waste are thrown into streets, drains, and open spaces. Within hours, this leads to foul smell, pollution, and diseases. The waste also attracts birds, which increases bird activity around airports and airbases, raising the risk of bird strikes that can endanger flights. Thus, timely disposal of sacrificial remains is not only a civic duty but also a matter of national safety.
If we dedicate just a few extra minutes after slaughtering and distributing meat to properly dispose of the remains and clean the area with water or disinfectant, our environment will remain pleasant and others will not suffer. Waste should never be thrown in open spaces or drains; instead, it should be sealed in strong bags and placed at designated collection points, or buried in pits to reduce odor and limit germs.
Where we spend thousands or even lakhs on sacrificial animals, allocating a small amount for garbage bags, disinfectants, and proper arrangements would be a responsible and admirable act. Staying in contact with sanitation staff or relevant authorities ensures timely collection of waste and prevents foul smell. Choosing open and suitable places for sacrifice rather than narrow streets also makes cleanliness easier and avoids inconvenience for others.
The true spirit of sacrifice is not just slaughtering an animal, but also improving our attitudes, responsibilities, and environment. Clean surroundings are a collective responsibility, and even a small positive step can bring about significant change in society. Remember, cleanliness is half of faith, and a responsible Muslim is one who cares for the comfort of others along with his worship.
Let us enjoy the blessings of Eid while also making our environment pleasant through good deeds, cleanliness, and responsibility. This Eid, let us spread the message of “Clean Environment, Responsible Sacrifice” so that our society becomes a cradle of ease, health, and goodness. May Allah accept our sacrifices, intentions, and actions, and make our community a beacon of cleanliness and well-being. Ameen.
