ISLAMABAD, SEP 27 /DNA/ – A special reference was held at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad to pay tribute to renowned scientist, educationist and institution-builder Dr. Amir Muhammad for his outstanding contributions to agricultural research, education and institution-building in Pakistan.
The speakers recalled Dr. Amir Muhammad’s significant role in the advancement of agricultural education, scientific research and the establishment and development of national research institutions. He served as Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, the founding Chairman of the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) and the founding Director of the Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology (NIAB).
Later, he played an important role in the formation of PARC and in developing an integrated agricultural research system at the national level. As Vice Chancellor, Dr. Amir Muhammad contributed significantly to strengthening academic programmes, introducing the semester system in undergraduate and higher-degree programmes, and restoring academic stability at the university.
He earned a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Oxford and received several honours in recognition of his scientific and national services. He was also conferred the Hilal-i-Imtiaz in 2026 in recognition of his contributions.
The speakers said Dr. Amir Muhammad’s legacy was not confined to the positions he held, but could also be seen in the institutions and scientific environment that he helped establish and strengthen. His contributions to agricultural education, laboratory research, agricultural innovation and institution-building at the national level remain particularly significant. The main speakers includes, Dr. Zulfiqar Ali, Vice Chancellor, UAF, Dr. Aftab Ahmad Maroof Rector FAST-NUCES and Dr. Abdul Rashid former Director General, NARC, Dr. Ikramullah Khan, Dr. Khalid Mahmood Paid Rich Tribute to the (Late) Dr. Amir Muhammad. At this occasion the family of Dr. Amir Muhammad was also pesent who thanked all the friends and colleagues of Dr. Amir Muhammad.
The reference concluded with a prayer for the forgiveness and eternal peace of the departed soul.
