ISLAMABAD, 20 MAY (DNA) — The imports of the overall petroleum group witnessed an increase of 1.63 percent during the first ten months of the current fiscal year (2025-26) as compared to the corresponding months of the last year, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported.
The total imports of the petroleum group during July-April (2025-26) stood at $13,517.296 million against the imports of $13,300.214 million during the same months of last year. Among petroleum commodities, the import of petroleum products increased by 2.99 percent, from $4,956.484 million last year to $ 5,104.768 million during the period under review year.
Likewise, the imports of Petroleum Crude increased by 24.22 percent from $ 4,540.681 million last year to $5,640.356 million while the import of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) went up by 0.24 per cent in the first ten months and stood at $ 887.417 million as compared to $ 885.252 million in the corresponding period in 2024-25.
On the other hand, the import of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) decreased by 35.41 percent from $2,917.459 million to $ 1,884.508 million. The imports of all other petroleum group products went down by 27.09 percent and were recorded at $0.246 million as against $0.338 million.
Meanwhile, on a year-on-year basis, the petroleum group imports witnessed an increase of 67.63 percent and went up to $ 2,271.312 million during the month of April 2026 as compared to imports of $1,354.953 million in April 2025. On a month-on-month basis, the petroleum imports into the country increased by 86.73 percent during April 2026, as compared to the imports of $ 1,216.351 million in March 2025, according to the data.
It is pertinent to mention here that imports into the country during July-April (2025-26) went up by 7.37 percent by growing from $44.900 billion last year to $48.210 billion during the period under review. The exports from the country increased by 6.25 percent during the period to $26.859 billion against $25.278 billion during July-April (2023-24).
Based on the figures, the trade deficit during the period under review was recorded at $21.351 billion against the deficit of $19.622 billion last year, showing an increase of 8.81 percent.— DNA
