ISLAMABAD, MAY 3 /DNA/ – Ambassador of Türkiye to Pakistan, Irfan Neziroglu highlighted the historical significance of National Sovereignty and Children’s Day while underscoring the enduring brotherhood between Turkiye and Pakistan.
Addressing a ceremony held here at the Embassy lawns, the ambassador said April 23 is celebrated annually in Turkiye as National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, marking the establishment of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in 1920 during the Turkish War of Independence.
Prominent among those who attended the were Chairperson PEMRA Ms. Ambreen Jan, Ambassadors of Azerbaijan, Syria North Cyprus.
The ambassador noted that the founder of the Republic of Turkiye, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, dedicated the day not only to Turkish children but to children around the world, reflecting a universal message of peace, unity, and hope for future generations.
The ambassador recalled that in 1979, the United Nations recognized the day as an international event, after which Turkiye began hosting children from across the globe to celebrate the occasion annually.
Paying tribute to Ataturk, the heroes of the Turkish War of Liberation, and members of the first National Assembly, he said their sacrifices laid the foundation of modern Turkiye and left a lasting legacy for future generations.
Highlighting deep-rooted historical ties, Ambassador Neziroglu expressed gratitude to the people of the subcontinent, particularly Muslims, for their unwavering support to Turkiye during its War of Independence, stating that these bonds have evolved into an “eternal brotherhood” between the two nations.
He also appreciated the contributions of partner organizations, including Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, Al-Khidmat Foundation, Pak-Turk Maarif International Schools, and Sweet Homes, for joining the celebrations.
The ambassador thanked participants and encouraged them to enjoy the celebrations, emphasizing the importance of nurturing joy, unity, and shared values among children.=DNA
