ISLAMABAD, (DNA) – The power distribution companies on Wednesday proposed an increase in power tariff by 63 paisa per unit on account of fuel cost adjustment in an application to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).

However, the NEPRA is expected to take a final decision on the matter on January 23rd.

The power companies stated that in the month of december electricity production costs were Rs6.49 per unit, whereas consumers were charged Rs5.86 per unit.

Importantly, K-electric and consumers using over 300 units of electricity will not be affected by the tariff hike.

According to economic analysts, the power in Pakistan is being generated through coal, imported LNG, forensic oil and other methods including nuclear power resources and the NEPRA examines the production cost using the ‘energy mix’ and certain methods.
