TTP claims responsibility for assassination of army officer

ISLAMABAD, 30 MAR (DNA) – The outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan on Monday claimed responsibility for the killing of an army officer in Peshawar.Lt. Col Tahir Azeem was shot dead in Hayatbad on Sunday when he was returning home from a mosque. The gunmen riding a motorcycle had fled after the incident.

“The TTP’s special unit STF targeted Lt. Col Tahir Azeem,” the TTP spokesman, Muhammad Khorasani said in a statement emailed to the media. The slain army officer belonged to Badhaber area and was posted in Rawalpindi.

He had gone to Peshawar to meet relatives. The police on Monday registered a murder case against unidentified people. DNA
