KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived here on a short-visit on Thursday accompanied by Information Minister Parvez Rasheed, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and other PML-N representatives. The prime minister was greeted by Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad and Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah at the Jinnah International Airport upon his arrival. Speaking to the media after offering Fateha at the Quaid’s mausoleum, Prime Minister Sharif said the mandate of each political party was respected. “We can only move forward together.”
The prime minister recalled the days when he was brought to Karachi in an armoured vehicle. Mr Sharif said that change in Pakistan had been brought through the ballot box. In reply to a question, Prime Minister Sharif said a concrete policy regarding law and order would require time to formulate. “We have held several meetings and directed that committees be formed for consultations with the provinces.”
When asked about the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner, Fakhruddin G Ebrahim, Prime Minister Sharif replied that the CEC had performed his duties with sincerity.
The prime minister added that Pakistan wanted positive relations with its neighbours’. “We want to enhance relations with India and resolve all outstanding disputes including Kashmir.”
