Action Plan outlines grand blueprint for development of Pak-China relations: Prof Cheng

Action Plan outlines grand blueprint for development of Pak-China relations: Prof Cheng

BEIJING, Sep 7 (APP/DNA): China and Pakistan, on occasion of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to China, released the Action Plan on Building a Closer China-Pakistan Community with a Shared Future in the New Era (2025-2029). This has further elevated the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership to a new height and brought unprecedented opportunities for the development of both countries and the entire region.

These views were expressed here Sunday by Prof. Cheng Xizhong, Senior Research Fellow at the Charhar Institute, a non-governmental Chinese think-tank on diplomacy and international studies based in Beijing.

The all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between China and Pakistan is widely acclaimed as a model in international relations. This profound friendship, forged through historical evolution and nurtured by the mutual affinity between the two peoples, has grown even deeper and more enduring despite the test of time. Against the backdrop of a volatile world fraught with frequent regional conflicts, building a China-Pakistan community with a shared future is not only a strategic choice for both countries, but also a powerful response to the timeless theme of our era: peace and development, he said in a statement here.

He said that from an economic perspective, the Action Plan is of extraordinary significance as it aims to further strengthen economic and trade ties. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has achieved substantial outcomes, and in the days to come, both sides will continue to make efforts in areas such as trade, investment and industrial cooperation. In terms of trade, the two parties will expand cooperation fields and promote trade diversification, which is expected to further increase the bilateral trade volume. In terms of investment, greater investment will be made in infrastructure, energy, manufacturing and other sectors, helping Pakistan enhance its own development capacity. In terms of industrial cooperation, through complementary advantages and joint construction of industrial parks, the two sides will drive Pakistan’s industrial upgrading and enhance its position in the global industrial chain. Such in-depth integrated economic cooperation will not only enable the peoples of the two countries to share the dividends of development but also make the economies of China and Pakistan more resilient and competitive in the global economic landscape.

Security cooperation serves as a crucial guarantee for China-Pakistan relations, and the two countries will work hand in hand to address both traditional and non-traditional security threats. Deepening security cooperation will build a solid defensive line for bilateral cooperation in various fields, ensuring the steady and long-term progress of cooperation between the two sides, he added.

Prof Cheng said that in the field of people-to-people and cultural exchanges, the Action Plan emphasizes deepening cooperative exchanges in multiple areas such as education, youth affairs and culture, so as to inject new vitality into the inheritance of China-Pakistan friendship.

From the perspective of international affairs, he said, China and Pakistan will maintain close coordination and collaboration. The two sides will make the voices of developing countries more forceful on the international stage, uphold international fairness and justice, and promote the development of multilateralism. In regional affairs, China and Pakistan will work together to encourage regional countries to resolve disputes through dialogue and consultation, and advance regional peace and development.

The Action Plan has outlined a grand blueprint for the development of China-Pakistan relations. It is believed that with the joint efforts, China and Pakistan will achieve more fruitful results in the political, economic, security, cultural and people-to-people exchange fields, and make greater contributions to regional and global peace, stability, prosperity and development, he concluded.

Submarine Ghazi struck fear in enemy’s heart during war: Naval chief

Submarine Ghazi struck fear in enemy's heart during war: Naval chief

ISLAMABAD, SEPT 7 /DNA/ – Nations that commemorate their historic milestones and draw enduring legacy from them, remain ever poised and resolute in safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of their homeland. Regarded amongst our most significant commemorations, 8th September stands as a testament to the courage of naval warriors, whose steadfast resolve at sea shines like a beacon, guiding future generations.

This historic day exalts the valour of our gallant heroes, who embody the essence of inspiration and kindle a lasting spirit of patriotism. Operation ‘SOMNATH’ epitomizes the true spirit of naval bravery, wherein a Pakistan Navy Flotilla comprising seven major warships displayed exceptional professionalism by launching a surprise attack on the Indian coastal town, Dwarka. This daring operation inflicted irreparable damage on vital shore installations, including a key radar station, which seriously impaired enemy’s visibility and severely dented its operational capability. Equally, during the 1965 war, Pakistan Navy Submarine GHAZI emerged as a formidable deterrent, striking fear in the heart of the enemy and raising stakes for the adversary with a domineering and delusionary ambition against our motherland.

Anchored in the honour and sacrifice of this glorious past, Pakistan Navy, during

‘Marka-e-Haq’, demonstrated resilience and combat readiness that radiated deterrence and a firm resolve to ensure impregnable defence of our sea frontiers. Our operational preparedness and poise kept the adversary at bay, protected our vital maritime interests and helped preserve uninterrupted flow of seaborne trade.

While discharging its cardinal responsibility of ensuring robust defence of our maritime frontiers, Pakistan Navy remains committed to advancing nation’s maritime sector, which is indeed our future. As a key stakeholder, PN is leveraging vast potential of our Blue Economy to foster sustainable economic growth and deliver huge economic dividends to the country. In this pursuit, the second Pakistan International Maritime Exhibition and Conference (PIMEC-25) is scheduled to be held from 3-6 Nov this year at Karachi Expo Centre. This is where global stakeholders are being invited to connect, invest and elevate Pakistan’s maritime economic contributions and transform the region’s maritime landscape.

Today, as we celebrate the Navy Day, let us renew our pledge and pay profound homage to the martyrs and veterans whose sacrifices have secured our freedom and dignity. May Allah SWT grant us the strength to uphold this sacred trust, enrich the glorious legacy of our predecessors and enable us to protect our beloved homeland withhonour and pride.

Ukraine’s main government building in Kyiv hit for first time, PM says

Ukraine’s main government building in Kyiv has been hit for the first time in the war during Russian attacks, the Ukrainian prime minister said.

Yulia Svyrydenko said the building’s roof and upper floors were damaged and a fire ignited “due to an enemy attack”.

At least four people were killed in strikes across the country, including a baby and a young woman who died after a nine-storey residential building was hit in Kyiv’s Svyatoshynsky district, officials said.

Ukraine’s air force reported a record number of drones and missiles were launched by Russia in the latest nightly attack – more than 800 in total.According to the air force, nine missiles and 56 drones hit 37 locations, and the downed wreckage fell at eight locations.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said the barrage caused damage in the cities of Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih and Odesa, as well as in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions.

“Such killings now, at a time when real diplomacy could have started a long time ago, are a deliberate crime and an attempt to prolong the war,” he said on social media, urging political will from the world to stop the attacks.

Russia’s defence ministry said it had carried out strikes on Ukraine’s military-industrial complex and transport infrastructure, inflicting damage on weapons and military equipment warehouses. The Kyiv government building that was hit is also known as the cabinet of ministers building, as it houses the offices of Ukraine’s main ministers.

Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko suggested a drone may have accidentally hit the cabinet building after being intercepted, although the details remained unclear on Sunday.

“In Pechersk district, a fire broke out in a government building as a result of an UAV possibly being shot down,” he wrote on Telegram.

This is a new twist in Russia’s attacks on Ukraine. Until now, no government building has been hit – the centre of Kyiv is very heavily defended, it has been since the start of the full-scale invasion. So this will shake people.

It is a symbolic strike. It also shows clearly that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s talk about being ready for peace is all posturing. He is not stopping. Instead, Russia is intensifying its attacks.

The BBC’s team was not allowed close to the cabinet building. The whole area is behind a checkpoint, because all the main official buildings are there – government, parliament and the presidential palace.

But earlier on Sunday, the team saw a large column of smoke rising into the sky from just behind the Maidan, Independence Square. Then they heard and saw two Russian cruise missiles moving at very high speed, before another explosion. At a block of flats in Kyiv that was hit, one woman Valentina and her husband were fast asleep when the strike shattered their windows and covered them in glass.

“At least we’re alive,” the pensioner said, deeply saddened by the death of a young woman neighbour with her tiny baby.

People say the family had only just moved into the apartment and that the woman’s husband is in hospital, badly hurt.

Kyiv officials said several multi-storey residential buildings in the Svyatoshynkyi and Darnytskyi districts were partially destroyed after direct hits.Elsewhere in Ukraine, 17 people were injured in a strike on the city of Zaporizhzhia, when multiple buildings including a nursery and people’s homes were hit, regional administration head Ivan Fedorov said.

Outside the city, a woman was killed and a man was missing after a Russian glide bomb hit the Novopavlivka village, Fedorov said.

Another person was killed in Safonivka, in the Sumy region, and another in the Chernihiv region, Zelensky said.

Russia also attacked Kryvyi Rih, Zelensky’s hometown in central Ukraine, where three infrastructure facilities were hit. Air raid warnings were activated overnight for all of the country’s regions.

In a statement, the Russian defence ministry said its air defence forces shot down or intercepted 69 Ukrainian drones in a number of Russian regions.

Ukrainian drones carried out another strike against the key Russian oil pipeline Druzhba, the Ukrainian unmanned aerial forces commander Robert Brovdi said. He said a pumping station in Russia’s Bryansk region was hit.

Earlier this week, Putin rejected Western proposals for a “reassurance force” in Ukraine the day after any ceasefire comes into place, following a Paris summit aimed at finalising plans for security guarantees.

French President Emmanuel Macron said 26 of Ukraine’s allies had formally committed to deploying troops “by land, sea or air” to help provide security the moment fighting was brought to a halt. He gave no further details.

Putin sought to quash the allies’ initiative, warning that any troops deployed to Ukraine would be “legitimate targets”.

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, and Moscow currently controls about 20% of Ukrainian territory – including the southern Crimea peninsula illegally annexed in 2014.
