King Charles, Prince Harry reunion signals thaw in royal tensions

King Charles and Prince Harry met face to face after weeks of speculations in what many see as an important step towards healing their strained relationship.

The meeting was the first time the father-son duo saw each other in over 18 months, since Harry returned to the UK following news of the King’s cancer diagnosis.According to a royal expert, now that the Duke of Sussex has dropped his legal fight with the Home Office, one of the key issues causing friction, there’s fresh hope for a new beginning.

The Express’ royal editor Emily Ferguson penned, “In May, Prince Harry also drew criticism for fuelling speculation about the King’s health, after saying he does not ‘know how much longer my father has left.’

She added, “But now he has drawn a line under his personal crusade against the Home Office, which was understood to be at the heart of the rift between father and son, there is a chance to start afresh.”

“The King, who sources have long claimed is ‘a forgiving man, who very much loves his son,’ is proving that he is willing to make the first steps towards reconciliation.”

Ferguson went on to pen that Charles is eager to spend time with Harry and Meghan Markle’s kids, “having last seen Archie, six, and Lilibet, four, three years ago and iron out the differences with his youngest son.”

“It may just be one meeting, but I’m sure the whole nation will agree that the meeting has been a long time coming and marks a huge step in the right direction,” she continued.

“Father and son are back on speaking terms, and it paves the way for more frequent returns for the Duke, who is keen to return to homesoil.”

Bananas may help reduce mid-meal hunger

Bananas may help reduce mid-meal hunger

Bananas are widely consumed for their flavour, convenience and nutritional value, though they have also drawn criticism for their sugar content.

As a source of carbohydrates, bananas contribute to energy production and contain essential B vitamins. When paired with protein or healthy fats, they help maintain stable blood sugar levels.

Including bananas in balanced meals may assist with weight maintenance by reducing hunger between meals. Although not directly linked to weight loss, their fibre content can support a healthy eating pattern. A medium banana contains around 3 grams of fibre, including pectin, which aids digestion.

Bananas also provide resistant starch, acting as a prebiotic that supports gut health. Additionally, one medium banana contains about 422 milligrams of potassium—approximately 9 per cent of the daily requirement—beneficial for heart health and blood pressure management.

The fruit also contains antioxidants, with studies linking them to reduced risk of certain cancers and chronic diseases associated with inflammation.

However, individuals with chronic kidney disease should limit high-potassium foods such as bananas to avoid potential complications like hyperkalaemia.

India crush UAE by 9 wickets in Asia Cup 2025 clash

India crush UAE by 9 wickets in Asia Cup 2025 clash

DUBAI: India began their ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 campaign by inflicting a crushing defeat on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Chasing a modest 58-run target, the former champions comfortably knocked the winning runs for the loss of just one wicket and 93 balls to spare.

Leading the way for them was left-handed opener Sharma, who top-scored with a quickfire 30 off just 16 deliveries, studded with two fours and three sixes.

He was involved in a 48-run opening partnership with Shubman Gill, who remained unbeaten with 20 off nine deliveries, while skipper Suryakumar Yadav made seven not out.

For UAE, Junaid Siddique could pick up a wicket.

India captain Suryakumar Yadav’s decision to field first proved beneficial as his team’s dominant bowling performance bowled out UAE for 57 in 13.1 overs.

UAE, however, had a relatively decent start to their innings as their opening pair of Alishan Sharafu and skipper Muhammad Waseem put together 26 runs at a brisk rate.

The opening stand eventually culminated in the fourth over when Jasprit Bumrah outclassed Sharafu with a well-executed yorker. He remained the top scorer for UAE with 22 off 17 deliveries, featuring three fours and a six.

UAE then suffered another setback in the next over, when Varun Chakravarthy dismissed Muhammad Zohaib (two), and consequently slipped to 29/2.

Following the back-to-back blows, skipper Waseem registered a one-sided 18-run partnership for the third wicket with Rahul Chopra (three) before both perished in quick succession. Waseem scored a cautious 19 off 22 deliveries with the help of three fours.

His dismissal sparked a match-defining collapse, which saw UAE lose their remaining six wickets for just nine runs and were thus bowled out for a paltry total.

Kuldeep Yadav was the standout bowler for India, taking four wickets for just seven runs in his 2.1 overs, followed by Shivam Dube with three, while Axar Patel, Chakravarthy and Bumrah chipped in with one apiece.

Govt lifts ban on new gas connections

Govt lifts ban on new gas connections

Faisal Sheikh

ISLAMABAD: The government has lifted the four-year ban on new domestic gas connections and announced that consumers will now be provided with re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) connections instead of local gas.

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, addressing a press conference alongside Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, said on Wednesday that the decision had been taken by the federal cabinet under the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to ease public hardships.

Malik said the ban, imposed in 2021, had forced residents of new housing societies and apartments to rely on LPG cylinders and other fuels. “Definitely, there’s the pain of getting your cylinders filled from the market, and then there’s the issue of sub-standard cylinders, which often lead to untoward incidents, and sometimes pipes also leak,” he explained.

He noted that the two gas supply companies had already completed the prerequisites and would start entertaining pending applications once the cabinet’s decision was notified. “RLNG is definitely expensive compared to local gas, however, it is 30–35% cheaper than LPG,” Malik said. He added that applicants already on the waiting list would be asked to convert to RLNG by paying the required fee and installing a new connection.

The minister said the billing cycle for RLNG would continue in line with the monthly system already in place. He acknowledged that RLNG was not cheap, but assured that the government was working to bolster local gas exploration so that people could get cheaper supplies in the future.

The factors behind violent unrest in Nepal

The factors behind violent unrest in Nepal

KATHMANDU, SEPT 10 (AFP/APP): Nepali youth, digitally savvy but bowed down by unemployment and limited opportunities, hit a breaking point this week, furious at an elderly ruling class they see as out of touch.

Dissatisfaction has grown at political instability, corruption, and slow economic development in the Himalayan nation of 30 million people.

That escalated into street anger on Monday, triggered by a government ban on social media — later overturned — with at least 19 people killed as police sought to crush protests.

The resignation of 73-year-old Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli failed to quell the anger of protesters, who set fire to parliament and a string of other government and political party buildings.

Many said that the social media ban was only the spark for protests.

Here are some of the factors that toppled the government.

– Economic woes –

The World Bank says a “staggering” 82 percent of Nepal’s workforce is in informal employment, “far higher than global and regional averages”.

Remittances are crucial for Nepal’s economy, equalling a third of the country’s GDP last year and the fourth-highest rate globally, according to the World Bank.

Social media is a key tool in keeping in touch with relatives abroad.

“Nepal’s reliance on remittances… has been central to the country’s growth but has not translated into quality jobs at home, reinforcing a cycle of lost opportunities and the continued departure of many Nepalis abroad in search of employment,” the World Bank said in its latest country report.

The economy has picked up; real GDP grew by 4.9 percent in the first half of the 2025 financial year — from 4.3 percent in the same period in 2024, mainly due to the agricultural and industrial sectors.

Nepal categorises young people as aged between 16-40, totalling more than 12 million people or nearly 43 percent overall, according to government statistics.

“With around 500,000 young people joining the workforce every year in Nepal, the urgency to create jobs that lift families out of poverty and drive sustainable development has never been more critical,” said World Bank Vice President for South Asia, Johannes Zutt, after a visit last week.

– Corruption –

The rights group Transparency International ranks Nepal 107 out of 180 countries.

Videos contrasting the struggles of ordinary Nepalis with the children of politicians flaunting luxury goods and expensive vacations have gone viral on TikTok.

Puja Manni, a 23-year-old woman who has worked abroad, said the excesses of the ruling elite had been “exposed through social media”.

Among the young, there was widespread dissatisfaction with leaders who have held power for decades.

The country became a federal republic in 2008 after a decade-long civil war and a peace deal that saw the Maoists brought into government and the abolishment of the monarchy.

Since then, a revolving door of ageing prime ministers and a culture of horse-trading have fuelled public perception that the government is out of touch.
