ASWJ leader shot dead in Lahore

LAHORE – Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat provincial chief Maulana Shamsur Rehman Muavia was assassinated in a drive-by shooting near Ring Road when he was on his way home after Friday prayers. ASWJ spokesman said that Muavia’s driver and a passer-by were also wounded as the car came under heavy gunfire at Batti Chowk near the Ravi Road police limits on Friday afternoon. Both the injured persons were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors described their condition as serious. The ASWJ, a front for the banned Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan, has announced country-wide protests against the targeted killing.

KSE-100 crosses 25,000 in mid-day trading

KARACHI: Pakistan’s main stock exchange closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark 100 share index of the Karachi Stock Exchange rising 0.28 per cent, or 69.86 points, to 24,870.55. With continued institutional support, the market gained 70 points to close at yet another high of 24,870 points. During the day’s session, the market crossed the psychological level of 25,000 points. Dealers said that banking sector scrips remained in the limelight.

Drone deaths and dilemmas

In the United States, the dominated narrative about the use of drone in Pakistan is of a surgically precise and effective tool. However, in the light of significant evidence of impacts to own civilians and to US interest, current policies to address terrorism and de-radicalization through drone strike must be carefully re-evaluated. A family of survivors of a drone strike from FATA is currently in the US on an invitation from a US Congressman. The family, who lost an elderly lady and their children suffered injuries in a drone strike, has been invited to tell their story to the American Congress, media and the US public of the losses suffered by the innocent people in these strikes.

gRAWALPINDI, Nov 27 (APP): Newly appointed Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), Lieutenant General Rashad Mahmood, Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) was commissioned in May 1975 in Baloch Regiment. He has attended Company Commander Course from France and is a graduate of Command and Staff College Canada, National Defence College, Islamabad. According to Bio Data issued by ISPR here, the General Officer has varied experience of Command, Staff and Instructional appointments.His major appointments include Platoon Commander, Pakistan Military Academy, Brigade Major Infantry Brigade, Instructor at Command & Staff College and National Defence College.

Newly appointed Chief of Army Staff’s Bio Data

RAWALPINDI, Nov 27 (DNA): The newly appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General, Raheel Sharif, Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) hails from a martial stock. He was born in Quetta on 16 June 1956 to Major and Mrs Muhammad Sharif. He is younger brother of Major Shabir Sharif, Nishan-e-Haider (NH), Sitara-e-Jurrat (SJ) and Capt Mumtaz Sharif, Sitara-e-Bisalat (Sbt). He is an alumnus of Govt College Lahore, and Pakistan Military Academy from where he passed out with 54th Course. According to Bio Data issued by ISPR here on Wednesday, Raheel Sharif was commissioned in October 1976 in the battle hardened and renowned Battalion the Frontier Force Regiment. As a Young Officer, he performed his duties in Gilgit in an Infantry Brigade and also served as Adjutant of Pakistan Military Academy.

738 missing persons recovered: Khawaja Asif

Minister for Defense Khawaja Asif says seven hundred and thirty eight missing persons have been located in the last four months.Talking to the media persons in Karachi today‚ he said the remaining missing persons will also be traced shortly. He said it will take months and weeks to resolve this issue and not years.On Balochistan issue‚ the federal minister said a popular provincial government is working to address the problems of the people of the province. He said we are committed to end exploitation and grievances of Balochi people. Balochi people will be given their due rights.

Outgoing Army Chief pays farewell call to PM

The outgoing Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad today.The Prime Minister lauded the services rendered by General Kayani for defence of the country and strengthening of democracy.

Raheel Sharif new Army Chief

Lt General Raheel Sharif has been promoted to the rank of General and appointed as the Chief of Army Staff.He will take charge from outgoing Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Friday [29 November] at a ceremony at general headquarters‚ Rawalpindi.
Lt. General Rashid Mehmood has been been promoted to the rank of General and appointed as the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.The president has made the appointments on the advice of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. A notification to this effect has been issued by the federal government.
