The Oscar winning documentary, ‘A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness,’ directed by Pakistani Filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, was screened today for the second time in Pakistan by the High Commission of Canada, the British High Commission and UN Women.
Heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Obaid-Chinoy were offered by the three hosts: High Commissioner of Canada Heather Cruden, British High Commissioner-Designate Thomas Drew and UN Women Country Representative Jamshed Kazi.
ISLAMABAD, MAR 16 (DNA) -Chairman Majlisi Namoyandagon of Tajikistan Mr. Zuhurov Shukurjon called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at PM House on Wednesday.
Warmly welcoming the Chairman, the Prime Minister said that excellent relations between Pakistan and Tajikistan are deeply rooted in history, religion and common culture.
The Prime Minister noted with satisfaction that relations between the two countries are making progress in all areas including energy, trade and defence. Parliamentary relations play an important part in improving relations between the two countries, said the Prime Minister.

PRELUDE: I begin telling you a seldom uttered truth which is also my strong belief that Pakistan was created to promote ideals of human rights not otherwise.

I further take this opportunity of requesting His Holiness to intervene in Indian held Kashmir for the protection of human rights as in my view he is the only person who can intervene after the wars between the two neighbors, failure of diplomatic efforts and the UN resolutions. On March 23 Mustaf Kamal along with his cohorts announced to form a new political party named Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP). The former MQM members, some of them even big guns, have already joined this new party while greater efforts are under way to bring more and more people to this newly-born outfit. The creation of this party has led to speculations about who will ultimately head this party and what will be the future of Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM)?

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Feb 14, 2016 during meeting with Bosnian ambassador emphasised on translating the excellent relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina into a strong economic partnership.
Talking to Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nedim Makarevic, who called on him at the Prime Minister House, he said that launching of economic initiatives was necessary for enhancement of trade and business relations between the two countries.
Despite the Saudi snub, that they don’t need Pakistani mediation, Pakistan has taken a bold initiative to defuse the Saudi-Iranian tension. It is a step in the right direction, because Pakistan in its own right enjoys perfect sectarian harmony, despite so many induced sectarian riots and dastardly terrorists’ attacks. There is no sectarian discrimination in Pakistan. A capable person can reach the highest post of the President, Prime Minister, Chief Justice or Services Chiefs. Therefore, whatever steps Pakistan takes would have a meaning and sincerity of purpose. Saudis must realise that the regional geo-political momentum has overtaken the sectarian dispute – a change which we all must prepare to capitalise.

General Raheel Sharif , Chief of the Army Staff visited Tajikistan on February 29, 2016 on the invitation the Tajik leadership . He discussed bilateral and regional issues with the Tajik leadership and met senior defence and political leaders. In addition, he also met the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
Both Pakistan and Tajikistan share the same views and concerns in terms of regional and global security and have worked closely towards this end. Pakistan and Tajikistan enjoy excellent relations in all fields and leaderships of both countries have always shown a keen desire to further strengthen these relations. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had visited Tajikistan recently and likewise the Tajik president also visited Pakistan. Apart from military sphere, both countries are cooperating with each other in other fields also such as trade, economy and especially the energy sector.

It is believed that terrorism in Pakistan dates back to the cold war era when Pakistan chose to be an ally of western bloc against the Soviet bloc which were representing two completely different philosophies concerning class relations, individualism, governance, and the nature of power. This ideological confrontation directly shaped and characterized the forms that terrorism would take during the Cold War.
Before tracing out the roots of terrorism in Pakistan in the cold war era, it would be worthwhile to briefly review the macro dynamics of terrorism in Pakistan and the internal and external factors that are responsible for the evolution of terrorism in the country in its present shape.

Sindh Police reform has emerged as a top priority in sindh Government’s commitment for strengthening the rule of law. Despite many past reform efforts, it is only about the last two years that AIG Maqsood Memon has viewed police reform as a critical developmental priority. The interest in reform stems from clear and overwhelming evidence that a fair, responsible, ethical and efficient criminal justice system is an important factor in the promotion of economic and social development and of human security. It also stems from the fact that law and order crisis in Karachi has continued to deepen over time, and in recent years the police have been increasingly unable to cope with its increased responsibilities, particularly with regard to combating serious crime.
