Dangal to earn Rs 375 crore by the end of this week: Trade analysts

MUMBAI, JAN 18,  – The Aamir Khan starer continues to make and break records. Days have passed since its first-day release but it appears that Dangal`s euphoria refuse to fade away. According to trade stats on Monday, the film earned Rs 1.37 crore, bringing the grand total to Rs 371.48 Cr.Dangal is said to have earned Rs 100 crore in Mumbai circuit itself, a fact tweeted by trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The movie is expected to earn more than Rs 375 crore by the end of this week. In all probability, Dangal may earn more than Rs 380 crore in its lifetime.That is more than the previous top grosser — Khan’s science fiction film “PK”, which amassed 3.40 billion rupees during its entire run in 2014.

Bees, wasp stings are more dangerous than snake bites: Study

SYDNEY, JAN 18, (DNA) – A study published in the Internal Medicine Journal claimed that Bee and wasp stings are more lethal and should be considered the biggest public health threat, than snakes, spiders or jellyfish bites.The study further said that based on three years’ data on bites and stings from venomous creatures shows that Australia’s towns and cities are a hot-spot for lethal bee wasp and sting encounters.Including fatalities, venomous stings and bites resulted in almost 42,000 hospitalisations over the study period.Bees and wasps were responsible for just over one-third (33 per cent) of hospital admissions, followed by spider bites (30 per cent) and snake bites (15 per cent).

Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan confirmed to star in Tubelight

Friends may influence children’s fear and anxiety

JAN 17 – Parents may have a lot to do with how children react to scary things, but a new study suggests kids’ response to fear may also be heavily influenced by their friends.In an experiment, researchers gave kids 7 to 10 years old information about scary-looking animals. They assessed how children felt on their own, and again after kids discussed their perceptions with friends. After speaking to friends, children tended to shift their opinions to match how their friends felt about the animals, the study found.“Studies show that children tend to choose friends who have similar attributes to themselves and that they can also become more similar through their interactions,” said lead study author Jinnie Ooi, a psychology researcher at the University of East Anglia in the UK.

Sharmeen Obaid will be the first-ever artist to co-chair World Economic Forum

Pakistan’s Academy Award-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is about to become the first ever artist to co-chair the World Economic Forum.A Monday statement from Chinoy’s office says she will also speak at the 47th World Economic Forum‘s annual three-day meeting starting January 17 in Davos, Switzerland. It says Chinoy regards it as a great honour to represent both the artistic community and her country.Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has also left to take part in the meetings, which will convene 2,500 participants from 100 countries. Other speakers include Al Gore, Jamie Oliver and Karan Johar.

Turkey takes key step to expanding Erdogan powers

ISTANBUL: Turkey was a key step closer on Monday to dramatically expanding the powers of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after parliament approved, on first reading, a bill critics fear will lead to one-man rule.The parliament backed the two final sections of the 18-article new constitution late on Sunday after a marathon week of debating that began on Jan 9 and included sessions that often lasted late into the night.The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) mustered the necessary 330 or more votes — a three-fifths majority — needed to adopt the constitutional change and send it to a referendum for final approval.
