GENEVA, AUG 22 (DNA) – “Pakistan has been a strong advocate at both regional and global levels for access to assistive technology.It was result of our consistent efforts that for the first time in 2015 Assistive Technology made it to the agenda of the WHO Executive Board” this was stated by the first lady of Pakistan Mrs. Samina Alvi, in her key note address as the chief guest of the WHO Consultative Conference on the Global Report on Effective Access to Assistive Technology (GReAT), being held in Geneva.

Plastic particles in drinking water present ‘low’ risk: WHO

GENEVA, AUG 22 (DNA) — Microplastics contained in drinking water pose a “low” risk to human health at current levels, but more research is needed to reassure consumers, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said on Thursday.Studies over the past year on plastic particles detected in tap and bottled water have sparked public concerns but the limited data appears reassuring, the UN agency said its first report on potential health risks associated with ingestion.Microplastics enter drinking water sources mainly through run-off and wastewater effluent, the WHO said. Evidence shows that microplastics found in some bottled water seem to be at least partly due to the bottling process and/or packaging such as plastic caps, it said.

Pakistan pursuing growth-oriented programme for economic revival: Hafeez

ISLAMABAD, AUG 22 (DNA) – Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance & Revenue Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has said Pakistan is pursuing a growth-oriented programme for institutional reforms and economic revival and the technical and financial assistance from the World Bank is vital for achieving various development goals in different sectors of the Pakistan economy.He made this statement while talking to Mr. Patchamuthu Illangovan, Country Director for the World Bank in Pakistan, who along with his team met the Adviser to apprise him of the upcoming visit of World Bank President David Malpass to Pakistan in the first week of November, and convey a strong desire from the World Bank management to work with Pakistan to drive institutional reforms and support the growth agenda of the government through any technical or financial assistance required from the Bank.

HEC scholarship cell has facilitated scores of Pakistani students so far

ISLAMABAD, AUG 22 (DNA) – The special cell established at the HEC to help students regarding scholarships has contributed greatly towards better student facilitation and effective liaison between HEC and the foreign missions in Pakistan.The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training had established a special cell “learning opportunities abroad” at the Higher Education Commission (HEC).The main objective of the scholarships cell is to process and advertise all international scholarship opportunities available for Pakistani students in various institutions of the world, through the HEC website www.hec.gov.pk.

UN chief suggests dialogue between Pakistan, India to resolve Kashmir issue

ISLAMABAD, (DNA) – United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has reiterated the intergovernmental organisation suggestion of holding dialogues between India and Pakistan to settle the grave crisis stemming from India’s annexation of the disputed Kashmir region.In his regular media briefing at UN Headquarters in New York, Spokesman of the UN Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric, said: “Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is a strong believer of [holding] dialogues.”The spokesman said the position of the United Nations on this region has been governed by the UN Charter and applicable Security Council resolutions.

Emirates airline to recruit cabin crew in Casablanca, Tangier

Ambassador Ali Alizade: Winners of the essay competition will visit Azerbaijan

Dr Christian Turner appointed as new British envoy to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, AUG 21 (DNA) -Dr Christian Turner CMG has been appointed British High Commissioner to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in succession to Mr Thomas Drew CMG who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment.Dr Turner will take up his appointment by December 2019.

Pak high school students to visit Japan under the SAKURA Plan

ISLAMABAD, AUG 21 (DNA) – A group of ten high school students of Cadet College Hasan Abdal along with their one accompanying supervisor will be visiting Japan from 13th to 19th September, 2019 on the invitation by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) under the Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science which is known as the “SAKURA Science Plan.”The Embassy of Japan today arranged a pre-departure orientation session for the visiting students and also presented travel documents to them.Kuninori Matsuda, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, while speaking on the occasion, congratulated the students upon their selection for SAKURA Science Plan.He hoped that the young Pakistani high schools students would get an opportunity during their visit to Japan to experience the modern scientific and technological advancements of Japan.

Students of Ittehad-e-Tanzeemate-Madaris meet COAS Gen. Bajwa
