Pakistan closes Mazar-e-Sharif consulate amidst security threats

ISLAMABAD, JAN 27 (DNA) -The Pakistan Consulate General in Mazar-e-Sharif was closed when an Afghan woman was caught trying to sneek a hand grenade into the Consulate, in her personal bag. The woman was arrested by the police and is under investigation to find perpetrators of the failed attack. The Embassy of Pakistan in Kabul has urged the Afghan Foreign Office to provide foolproof security to its Consulate General in Mazar-e-Sharif and to share the findings of its investigation at the earliest.

Twin bombings at church kill at least 21 in southern Philippines

MANILA, JAN 27 (DNA) – Twin bombings during a church service in the southern Philippines killed at least 21 people and wounded 71, security officials said, days after a referendum on autonomy for the mainly Muslim region returned an overwhelming “yes” vote.The first explosion went off inside the cathedral in Jolo, on the island province of Sulu, and was followed by a second blast in the car park outside, killing military and civilians, officials said.

Rescue mission launched for seven people missing in Upper Kohistan mountains

LAHORE, (DNA) – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provincial government authorities have initiated a search and rescue operation on Sunday, for at least seven people missing in the Upper Kohistan mountains after heavy snowfall in the region.According to details, at least seven people had reportedly gone in search of precious gemstones in Spat Malli area in Upper Kohistan. The treasure hunters lost contact with their families after heavy snowfall covered the region and blocked routes leading to the mountains.Deputy Commissioner Hamid ur Rehman has said that the rescue operation has been launched after families have approached the district administration for the rescue operation. The families of the lost treasure hunters had not heard from them for more than a week, sparking fears that they may be trapped or dying.
