ISLAMABAD (DNA) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has on Tuesday allowed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (ML-N) vice president to keep her party designation.The ECP rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) petition to remove Maryam Nawaz as party’s vice president, however, restricted that she cannot become the acting president of PML-N.The Election Commission of Pakistan had reserved verdict in the case on Monday. Advocate Hassan Maan, PTI counsel, had argued during the hearing that Section 203 should be read with Article 62 and 63. A PTI candidate in South Punjab was dismissed from party designation on the same principle which bars disqualified leaders from holding any position in party, he said.
Uzbekistan’s Namnagan engineering institute and Pakistan’s National Textile University ink MoU

PCB not concerned for visually impaired cricketers: PBCC
ISLAMABAD (DNA) – The dejected Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC) has expressed disappointment over the approach of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) towards the visually-impaired cricketers, saying despite ardent efforts, they were not getting time for a meeting by the latter.Chairman PBCC Sultan Shah in a letter last week said, I had requested PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani for a meeting to discuss matters related to PBCC budget. “PBCC had requested for a short meeting from September 2 to 4, but I have not received any reply from PCB on the matter yet,” he told.

Indian Supreme Court set to hear multiple pleas on occupied Kashmir today
NEW DELHI, SEPT 16 – The Supreme Court of India will on Monday take up multiple pleas against the August 5 decision of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to revoke the constitutional autonomy of Indian-occupied Kashmir.According to a report, the petitions include pleas against the validity of scrapping Article 370 and 35(A) of the Indian Constitution without proper discourse in the parliament.In addition, there are petitions regarding the media and communications blackout in the occupied valley which have put the area under siege, and disrupted business and health facilities.
IMF SOS mission to arrive in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, SEPT 15 (DNA) – International Monetary Fund (IMF) is sending its SOS (Save Our Soul) mission to Pakistan for suggesting ways to the cash-strapped government to curtail the budget deficit being faced by the country.The IMF expressed concern over Pakistan’s economic performance in the first two months and is sending its SOS mission to Islamabad.The mission will be vising Pakistan to discuss fiscal issues with special focus to restrict target of primary deficit within the desired limits.
Sargodha University makes its entry into Times Higher Education rankings
SARGODHA, SEPT 15 (DNA) – The University of Sargodha has for the first time made its entry into the Time Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2020 and has been ranked 1,276 in the world.The THE World University Rankings 2020 included 1,400 universities from 92 countriesthat qualified its ranking criteria out of nearly 60,000 universities in the world. The ranking criteria is based on 13 performance indicators concerning teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.From Pakistan, 14 universities qualified for THE World University Rankings 2020. The Quaid-i-Azam University came at top, placed at number 401-500. Sargodha Universities and six other universities were placed in the 1,000+ category of universities.

Protesters call on UK to protect Hong Kongers from China
HONG KONG, SEPT 15 (DNA) – Pro-democracy protesters rallied outside Britain’s consulate in Hong Kong on Sunday, demanding London do more to protect its former colonial subjects and ramp up pressure on Beijing over sliding freedoms.The protest came as another large rally made its way through the city streets on Sunday afternoon in defiance of a ban by police, who warned the gathering was illegal.”We have a right to go to protests, to the streets, and we have to voice our demands to the government,” a secondary school student at the rally who gave his name as Alvin, told.The once-stable international hub has been convulsed by weeks of huge, sometimes violent rallies calling for greater democratic freedoms and police accountability.
