HEC, PIEAS select 14 candidates to participate in Nobel laureate meetings

Islamabad, October 10, 2019: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) have finalised 14 candidates for participation in the 70th Interdisciplinary and 7th Economics Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings 2020 to be held in Lindau, Germany.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between PIEAS, a leading University of Pakistan, and the Lindau Council, up to 10 scholars can participate each year in Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings.

Human chain to be formed under leadership of PM on Friday

 

ISLAMABAD, OCT 10 (DNA) –A human chain will be formed under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad tomorrow (Oct 11) to express solidarity with Kashmiris.

According to Information Ministry, the human chain will be formed from Convention Centre to D-Chowk at 3.30 p.m. tomorrow.

Pakistan urges world not to plunge SA zone into arms race

ISLAMABAD, Oct 10 (DNA): Pakistan has urged the world community not to
push the South Asian region into the arms race.

At his weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, Foreign Office
Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal was commenting on the induction of
Rafale fighter jets by India.

The spokesperson said Pakistan knows how to defend itself no matter it
is Rafale or any other fighter jet. He said the whole world is witness
to the episode of 27th February.

The spokesperson said Pakistan will not indulge in any arms race. He
said the focus of present government is also on human development,
health and education.

Foreign funding case: ECP rejects PTI’s four applications seeking secrecy in scrutiny

SLAMABAD (DNA News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday rejected four application filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) seeking secrecy in the scrutiny of the foreign funding case against the party.

Meanwhile, the ECP has directed a special scrutiny committee to continue its investigation into the same case.

Importantly, the commission has ordered the concerned parties, including the PTI, to appear before the committee on October 14.

Irish PM says very difficult to secure Brexit deal by next week

DUBLIN (DNA) – It will be very difficult to secure a Brexit agreement by next week with big gaps remaining in the British position, Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said on Tuesday following a phone call with his British counterpart, Boris Johnson.“I’ll certainly work until the very last moment to secure that (a deal) but not at any cost… I think it will be very difficult to secure an agreement by next week, quite frankly,” Varadkar told Irish national broadcaster RTE.“Essentially what the United Kingdom has done is repudiated the deal that we negotiated in good faith with Prime Minister May’s government over two years and has sort of put half of that now back on the table and are saying that’s a concession and of course it isn’t really. There are two big gaps.”
