Coronavirus death toll jumps to 1,167 in Pakistan with 56,349 infected cases

LAHORE (DNA News) – Pakistan confirmed 34 more deaths from novel coronavirus in one day as the nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 1,167 and positive cases surged to 56,349, Dunya News reported on Monday.

According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 1,748 persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 in 24 hours.


Province-wise Details


Sindh remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Till now 20,077 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Punjab, 22,491 in Sindh, 7,905 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 3,407 in Balochistan, 1,641 in Islamabad, 619 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 209 in Azad Kashmir.

Patients are under treatment at quarantine centers of 462 hospitals where 7,295 beds are available.


Tests and Recoveries


Pakistan has so far conducted 483,656 coronavirus tests and 10,049 in last 24 hours. 17,482 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas many are in critical condition.

Uzbekistan and Italy to cooperate in the field of judo and sports medicine

Tashkent, Uzbekistan DNA) — Uzbekistan Judo Federation and Italian Judo, Karate, Wrestling and Martial Arts Federation (Federazione Italiana Judo, Lotta, Karate, Arti Marziali – FILJKAM) signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of judo training and the exchange of experience in sports medicine. In connection with the coronavirus pandemic, the document was signed remotely, Dunyo reported.

The initiative to establish this partnership was put forward by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Rome with the assistance of the Honorary Consul of Uzbekistan in the regions of Campania and Molise (Italy) Vittorio Georgi, who is also the president of the Italian Kurash Federation.

So, in December 2019, the visit of the Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, Chairman of the Judo Federation of Uzbekistan Azizjon Kamilov to Italy was organized.

He met with FILJKAM President Domenico Falcone, Secretary General of the organization Massimiliano Benucci, Technical Director Kyoshi Murakami. During a visit to the FIJLKAM Olympic complex, the Uzbek delegation got acquainted in detail with the process of preparing athletes and training halls.

Over the past time, the leaders and experts of the two federations held a number of online meetings and negotiations to develop specific areas of interaction.

As a result, the signed Agreement includes agreements on cooperation in such areas as the exchange of knowledge and experience through the mutual organization of travel of instructors, judges and medical personnel, conducting special trainings, courses, seminars, symposia and research, conducting joint sports events and trainings, the fight against doping, as well as the training of specialists in the field of sports medicine.

The parties agreed that the practical implementation of the Agreement, incl. through joint training of athletes for the upcoming Olympic Games, it will begin as quarantine restrictions in Uzbekistan and Italy are relaxed.

Citizens of Uzbekistan feel their social security, – Polish experts

Tashkent, Uzbekistan DNA) – A meeting with representatives of the Civil Defense Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Environment of Poland was held at the diplomatic mission of our country in Warsaw, Dunyo reports.

A thorough discussion of measures taken by the Government of Uzbekistan to eliminate the consequences of natural disasters in Bukhara and Syrdarya regions in connection with the breakthrough of the dam of the Sardoba reservoir took place. These events, as noted by the Polish participants in the meeting, were a test of strength of the Government and people of Uzbekistan, which once again showed responsibility, cohesion and competence in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters. This was manifested in the timely evacuation of residents who lost their shelter to safe places, the mobilization of forces and means to further prevent threats, distribute food and ensure peace of the population.

Representatives of the Polish departments noted the high role of the created government commission, coordinating the situation in the affected areas of Bukhara and Syrdarya regions. Immediate provision of vital necessities, the allocation of financial resources, the collection of sponsorship, the provision of construction materials, medical care and medicines.

Particular attention was paid to the decision of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to build new housing for the affected families, to provide it for free, while leaving at their disposal the land plots where these families used to live and work. This, according to the representative of the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs, J. Kalka, was a manifestation of the high humanity, complicity and compassion of the Uzbek authorities for their citizens who feel their social security, especially in conditions of nature’s test.

The representative of the Ministry of the Environment A. Sokolovsky emphasized the importance and special role of sponsorship in similar cases. “We know that so far humanitarian aid is being sent from all regions of Uzbekistan, the financial resources of ordinary citizens who, out of compassion for their fellow countrymen, send food, bedding, clothes and money to the victims. This again showed the role of the mahalla in modern Uzbek society.”

‘Ertugrul’ actor Engin Altan extends Eid greetings in heartfelt message for Pakistanis

Famed Turkish actor Engin Altan, who essays the lead role in blockbuster drama Dirilis: Ertugrul or Ertugrul Ghazi, has extended Eid greetings in a special message to his Pakistani fans on Eid-ul-Fitr.

Articulating his thoughts in a video message, Altan expressed gratitude to all his fans in Pakistan for the appreciating his play.

“I cannot thank you enough for the unimaginable love and incredible response you are giving to Ertugrul Ghazi Urdu by PTV. And I also would like to thank PTV for bringing Ertugrul Ghazi to your home,” Altan said.

Extending Eid greetings, the actor went on to say, “Aap sab ko meri taraf se Eid Mubarak. [Eid Mubarak to you all from me]” before signing off.

Ertugrul Ghazi has become a massive hit ever since state-owned Pakistan Television started airing it on special request of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

PIA plane crash: Pilot ignored 3 warnings from Air Traffic Control to lower altitude

KARACHI: The pilot of the ill-fated PIA plane that crashed a couple of days ago had ignored warnings from air traffic control about the plane’s height and speed as the aircraft approached for landing.

The PK-8303 tragedy has become the third most-catastrophic aviation disaster in Pakistan’s history.

The plane crashed into a narrow residential street in Karachi on Friday, dealing significant damage to houses in a densely-populated area. Of the 99 people aboard, 97 were killed and only two passengers survived.

According to a report from air traffic control seen by Geo News, the flight left the Lahore airport at 01:05pm and was scheduled to land at the Jinnah International Aiport in Karachi at 2:30pm.

The report said the plane had enough fuel in it to fly for two hours and 34 minutes, while its total flying time was recorded at one hour and 33 minutes.

At 2:30pm, the plane was 15 nautical miles from Karachi at Makli, flying at an altitude of 10,000 feet above the ground instead of 7,000 when air traffic control issued its first warning to the pilot to lower the plane’s altitude.

Instead of lowering the plane’s altitude, the pilot responded by saying that he was satisfied. When only 10 nautical miles were left till the Karachi airport, the plane was at an altitude of 7,000 feet instead of 3,000 feet.

The report states that air traffic control issued a second warning to the pilot to lower the plane’s altitude. However, the pilot responded again by stating that he was satisfied and would handle the situation, saying he was ready for landing.

PK-8303’s engines scraped runway thrice: CAA report

According to an earlier report, prepared by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA), the plane’s engines had scraped the runway thrice on the pilot’s first attempt to land the plane, causing friction and sparks. Three long marks have been observed and recorded by the PCAA’s experts on the runway.

Army Chief General Bajwa  spends Eid with troops at LOC

India is trying to shift the global attention away from worsening humanitarian crisis and violence in IOJ&K to LOC by targeting innocent civilians across the LIne.

Kashmir is a disputed territory and any attempt to challenge the disputed status including any political cum military thought related to aggression will be responded with full national resolve and military might. Disturbing the strat stability matrix in South Asia can lead to dire consequences.

Pakistan Army is fully alive to the threat spectrum and will remain ever ready to perform its part in line with national aspirations, COAS reiterated .

He expressed hope that international community will weigh in to ensure freedom of movement for UNMOGIP operations inside IOJK, as ensured by Pakistan in AJK, so that the tragic consequences of ongoing atrocities and inhuman clampdown inside occupied territory is reported to the United Nations Security Council and the world at large.

Pakistanis to celebrate Eid on Sunday as Shawwal moon sighted

KARACHI, MAY 23 – Chairman Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneebur Rehman on Saturday announced the sighting of the moon for the month of Shawwal, saying Eidul Fitr will be celebrated across Pakistan on Sunday.

He made the announcement at a press conference after chairing a meeting of the committee held in Karachi.

Separate meetings of zonal Ruet committees are were also held at their respective regional headquarters.

Earlier in the day, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry had said that Eidul Fitr will be celebrated in the country tomorrow (Sunday), according to calculations made by his ministry.

Addressing a news briefing in Islamabad, he said his ministry wanted to end the conflict over moon-sighting by relying on technology, adding that he rejected notions that technology should not be involved in moon-sighting.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed condolences to President Arif Alvi

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, on behalf of the Kazakhstan people and on his own behalf, expressed condolences to President Arif Alvi of Pakistan and all his country-fellows over a tragic airplane crash near Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, which claimed the lives of many people and caused numerous injuries.
