Pink recalls enduring severe anxiety after son’s horrifying COVID-19 diagnosis

US singer Pink revealed she had to endure severe anxiety during the time her son Jameson was fighting the deadly coronavirus, while she was battling the disease herself.

While speaking with Vanessa Inn on Instagram Live, Pink said, “I think this is really important for people right now with coronavirus — you know anxiety is rampant and panic attacks and just, we feel like the rug is being pulled out from under us a little bit right now and different people on different levels.”

Recalling the time she suffered a panic attack, the singer added, “I was on the phone with you and I was having one of my very first panic attacks and it was during the time where I was really afraid for Jameson and just exhausted from my adrenaline for 10 weeks of taking my temperature and wondering if I was gonna die.”

She added that Inn suggested a grounding technique to help support her through the difficult time.

“It was incredibly timely because you told me to look for textures and patterns and I look down and I was wearing a paisley dress and sitting on a roque chair,” the Try singer said.

She went on to talk about her son’s horrific COVID-19 battle, “Battling COVID-19 along with my 3-year-old son was the most physically and emotionally challenging experience I have gone through as a mother. Weeks after receiving our test results, my son was still ill and feverish. It was a terrifying time, not knowing what might come next.”

“There were many nights when I’ve cried and I’ve never prayed more in my life,” she said. “It’s funny, but at one point, I thought they promised us our kids would be OK. It’s not guaranteed. There is no one that is safe from this.”

Cabinet body okays import of furnace oil

KARACHI: A sub-committee of the federal cabinet on energy has decided to allow the import of furnace oil to fulfil needs of power stations in the country.

The committee meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar reviewed electricity production in the country and progress on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.

The meeting also reviewed hydro-power projects including Kohala Hydel Project and Azad Pattan Hydropower Project, both of them in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

The cabinet okayed the agreements needed to be made for initiating works on the projects. The meeting also approved the use of furnace oil for K-Electric.
Last year in April, in an effort to meet the demand of power plants during the summer season, the Cabinet Committee on Energy lifted a ban on import of furnace oil.

The cabinet body allowed only one-time import of furnace oil for stock up oil reserves of power plants, however, the committee decided to put the matter for the approval of the federal cabinet.

Briefing the cabinet body, an official of the Petroleum Division said that 350,000 tons of furnace oil was needed to meet energy requirement of the country in May and June 2019.

He told the meeting that Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) and Pakistan State Oil (PSO) were importing over 1 billion cubic feet of liquefied natural gas per day (bcfd), of which zero-rated export-focused industries were being supplied 200 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd).

The committee directed the power division to ensure uninterrupted power supply during Sehr and Iftar in Ramazan. During the meeting, the Power Division presented its internal audit report.

Trump says he urged team to ‘slow’ COVID-19 testing

WASHINGTON : US President Donald Trump said Saturday he was encouraging health officials in his administration to slow down coronavirus testing, arguing that increased tests lead to more cases being discovered.

The president has claimed falsely on several occasions that surges of COVID-19 in several states can be explained by greater numbers of diagnostic tests.

At his first rally since the outbreak forced nationwide shutdowns in March, Trump told the crowd in Tulsa, Oklahoma that testing was a “double-edged sword.” The United States — which has more deaths and cases than any other country — has carried out more than 25 million coronavirus tests, placing it outside the top 20 countries in the world, per capita.

“Here is the bad part: When you do testing to that extent, you are going to find more people, you will find more cases,” Trump argued.

“So I said to my people ‘slow the testing down.’ They test and they test.”

It was not clear from Trump’s tone if he was playing to the crowd, who cheered as he spoke, or if he was being serious.

However, a White House official told that Trump “was clearly speaking in jest to call out the media’s absurd coverage. We are leading the world in testing, and we are proud to have conducted 25 million plus tests.”

The campaign of presidential challenger Joe Biden called Trump’s order to slow testing “appalling” and “a transparent attempt to make the numbers look better.”

Coronavirus cases have spiked in several states, including Oklahoma, and local health officials had asked Trump to postpone the rally, fearing it would contribute to the spread.

Six members of an advance team working in Tulsa ahead of the rally tested positive for COVID-19, the Trump campaign said just hours before the president took the stage.

Stats show how Klopp’s ‘heavy metal’ Liverpool hit the right notes

Liverpool are on the cusp of winning their first ever Premier League trophy and their stellar run has highlighted how manager Juergen Klopp transformed a club struggling to mount consistent title challenges into one of the best teams in the world.

With 27 wins and 82 points under their belt after only one defeat all season, red-hot Liverpool set a record-breaking pace to leave teams behind them in their wake and are six points shy of ending a 30-year wait for the top-flight title.

Compared to Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool have vastly improved at both ends of the pitch — creating more chances, converting chances more effectively and conceding fewer shots on goal.

In 173 matches after adopting Klopp’s aggressive “heavy metal” approach, Liverpool have scored 2.15 goals per game compared to 1.9 under Rodgers. Their shot conversion rate has also gone up from 11.09% to 13.24%, according to Gracenote data.

“Liverpool have improved the quality of their chances under Klopp’s leadership,” said Simon Gleave, head of sports analysis at Gracenote.

“During the 2015-16 season in which Klopp took over, the average chance of a Liverpool goal attempt going in was 9.5% according to Gracenote’s statistical modelling. This season, that critical number sits at 12.8%.”

Much of that is down to Klopp’s lethal front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, who scored 38 goals and grabbed 20 assists to push Liverpool a whopping 22 points clear at the top.

Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold has redefined the role of a full back with 12 assists — second only to Manchester City’s playmaker Kevin De Bruyne who has 16.

In defence, Liverpool now concede 8.26 shots per match compared to 10.7 under Rodgers, with the drastic improvement largely due to the club-record 75 million pound ($92.85 million) signing of centre back Virgil van Dijk in 2018.

In 83 games since the Dutchman’s arrival at Anfield, Liverpool have lost only five times and conceded 56 goals — compared to 24 defeats and 100 goals conceded in the same period prior to the club securing his services.

“Since his debut in January 2018, the club have almost cut the number of goals they concede by half and have taken a third more points in comparison to the same number of matches prior to his arrival,” Gleave added.

As things stand, the European champions are on course to eclipse league records for most points in a season (100), most points at home (55) and most wins (32).

Vital Kamerhe: DRC president’s chief of staff found guilty of corruption

A court in the Democratic Republic of Congo has found President Felix Tshisekedi’s chief of staff guilty of corruption.Vital Kamerhe was sentenced to 20 years’ hard labour on Saturday, after facing charges of embezzling almost $50m (£39m) of public funds.

Kamerhe’s supporters say the trial is a political move designed to prevent him from standing for president.

The judge presiding over the case was murdered in May.

Kamerhe, who was also a key ally of a former president, is the most high-profile figure to be convicted of corruption in the DRC.

He was convicted by a court in the capital Kinshasa on Saturday.

Much of the missing funds were intended to be used in a housing project announced by the president following his inauguration.

Lebanese businessman Jammal Samih was also sentenced to 20 years’ hard labour in the same trial, while a third man in charge of logistics at the presidential office faces two years in prison.

Kamerhe will also be banned for running for the presidency for 10 years after completing his sentence.

His lawyers have said they will appeal, arguing that hard labour is prohibited by the DRC’s constitution, according to AFP news agency.

Anti-corruption activists have praised the verdict.

“I sincerely think that this is a positive sign for the fight against corruption,” Florimond Muteba of Congolese transparency organisation, the Observatory of Public Expenditure, was quoted as saying by Reuters news agency.

The trial continued with a replacement judge after the death of Judge Raphael Yanyi in May. An initial police report said he had died of a heart attack.

But a post-mortem examination later found Yanyi “died a violent death, due to the blows of sharp points or knife-like objects, which were thrust into his head”, the country’s justice minister said.
