Thirty-seven Pakistani students graduated under CPEC

BEIJING, Aug. 6 ): Thirty-seven Pakistani students, a majority of whom from Gilgit Baltistan have graduated from Suzhou Vocational University after completing three years’ study in China, Gwadar Pro reported on Thursday.Equipped with the latest knowledge and skills in machine manufacturing and mechatronics, they are expected to contribute their due part to the revitalization of “Made in Pakistan”.The students are beneficiaries of an education program initiated and supported by the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Culture Communication Center, which was jointly established by the government of Gilgit Baltistan and Suzhou Vocational University three years ago to promote education cooperation and cultural exchanges between Pakistan and China. The scholarship and tuition fee of the 37 students are provided by the center.

The main executor of the program Suzhou Vocational University is located in one of China’s major manufacturing bases Suzhou, from where a considerable amount of “Made in China” products are exported to markets throughout the world. And the achievement is in part attributed to its developed vocational education system. As per the plan of the program, most of the students learn machine manufacturing and mechatronics at Suzhou Vocational University to meet the demand of Pakistani enterprises for skilled technicians.Through theoretical and practical courses, all of them have a good command of the know-how to operate sophisticated machines and perform process analysis and CNC programming according to design drawings. They are also offered internship opportunities at the partner companies of the university for one semester before graduation, and the qualified ones can get a formal offer from the employers.

“With all the skills I’ve learned in Suzhou, I now have the capability to devote to the manufacturing development of Pakistan,” said one of the student representatives who has won the scholarship for three consecutive years.

In terms of their future plan, 20 have received letters of admission from different Chinese universities for undergraduate study, 12 will finish internship and enter into the job market, and the rest have planned further study in Russia, Italy, or other countries.St. Fulin Group, one of the first Chinese private enterprises to enter into the Pakistani market in 2012, played a major part in launching the program. CEO of St. Fulin Group Li Wenyu said one of the aims of the company is to rejuvenate the manufacturing industry of Pakistan.Driven by this goal, they had attempted to set up plastic particles factory, printing factory, and building materials industry in the country. However, the shortage of skilled workers due to underdeveloped vocational education in Pakistan undermined the efforts of developing manufacture.

“The elder local experienced workers are devoid of the knowledge and skills to operate the machines imported from China. In this condition, I realize it’s a prerequisite to developing vocational training for young people to rejuvenate Pakistan’s manufacturing industry,” said Li Wenyu.

Li afterward introduced Suzhou Vocational University to the educational department of GB and facilitated the two parties to launch the CPEC Culture Communication Center.“The center mainly carries the functions of China-Pakistan cultural exchange and vocational education cooperation. We will train technical personnel for Pakistan’s economic development and help build the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. We will also extend our experience in cultural exchanges and educational achievements to the cooperation with other countries along the Belt and Road route,” Niu Xuelin, party secretary of the University and Cao Yumin, President of the University noted.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi demands disbanding of NAB

ISLAMABAD : Hearing of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LNG) scandal against former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was adjourned without any proceedings till September 7.

The hearing was adjourned due to unavailability of AC Judge Azam Khan.

Talking to media men after appearing before the court, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz stalwart said despite passage of 13 months, he has not been provided with the copy of reference.

Khaqan also thanked National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for inducting him in the list of billionaires. Replying to a question, the former prime minister ruled out allegations of money laundering and stated that he and his son paid all the taxes and the money in their accounts is legitimate.
He demanded disbanding of NAB.

LNG scandal
Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Miftah Ismail, ex-PSO MD Imranul Haq and others are facing charges of corruption over awarding a LNG import contract allegedly at exorbitant rates in 2015, which caused a big loss to the national exchequer.

NAB sources said that Abbasi, in 2013, had awarded a LNG import and distribution contract to the Elengy Terminal in violation of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules and relevant laws.

Pakistan needs to promote mango, says Chinese scholar

DNA

BEIJING, Aug. 6 : Chinese scholar Zhou Rong has suggested that Pakistan should strengthen the management of mango forests and logistics to promote the”king of fruit” home and abroad.

Pakistani government also needs to expand subsidies and transportation support for the fruit farmers and to channel middle east market, he said in an article published by Gwadar Pro on Thursday.

He is of the view that If the government can organize enough vehicles (truck and ships), it is best to quickly ship mangoes to the domestic and international market in the vicinity. However, in the long term, mango processing should be placed in priority.

Even if Pakistan would like to continue to sell fresh mangoes, it has to address the problems of refrigeration and preservation and to develop Mango process sectors should be the right direction for the future.

And there will be a great potential for the long term, the processed mangoes may enjoy best sell, he added.

Pro. Zhou who is international affairs commentator of China Economic Net observed that harvests, dropping demand and export supply chains hit by the coronavirus are biting into Pakistan’s mango industry, with producers of the prized fruit battling to weather a disastrous season.

Across Pakistan’s “mango belt” in Punjab and Sindh provinces, farmers complained a long winter and changing rain patterns have slashed production by up to half this year – just as virus shutdowns sparked border restrictions and spiraling export costs.

There are multiple challenges that mango farmers are facing. The mangoes are ready, but fewer exporters are willing to take the risk and place orders.

He added: Last year Pakistan produced more than 1.5 million tons of mangoes – and exported a record 115,000 tons worth US$80 million – making it the sixth-largest exporter of the fruit in the world and also enjoyed huge share of sells on international market.

But in the past six months, exports have dropped around 40 percent compared to the same period last year and with just a few months left of the season, it was very hard to estimate the loss and costs.

The fruit also helps sweeten diplomatic relations. Pakistan right now is sending its best mangoes to international dignitaries and celebrities ‘after overcoming travel restrictions’.

As flights resume and border restrictions are eased, we sincerely hope that Pakistan would soon increase exports in the second half of the season to avoid a complete lost season.
Someone once advised China to increase mango imports from Pakistan.

This idea is indeed constructive. But in recent years, China’s demand for Pakistani mangoes has been dwindling. China’s Hainan Province has been able to produce mangoes of the same quality as Pakistan.

Due to China’s advantages in logistics and transportation, these mangoes can reach Beijing smoothly by high speed railway and safely in only 9 hours of train transportation.

When it was sold in the market, there were no scars, and its color and sweetness were not inferior to Pakistani mangoes.

This is an objective fact. Even that, China imported tens of thousands of tons of mangoes and agricultural products from Pakistan, which caused domestic fruit merchants to reduce their imports of Vietnamese mangoes, he added.

Improved epidemiological situation in Kazakhstan

DNA News Agency

Kazakhstan has overcome the critical situation in July caused by the outbreak of Covid-19. At the height of July, hospitals were overcrowded, ambulance services were overwhelmed by telephones calls from citizens, and there was a general turmoilat overcrowded hospitals. However, coordinated action enabled Kazakhstan to overcome the epidemiological crisis and take health care under control. To date, 92,662 coronavirus cases have been registered in Kazakhstan, around 69% of which have recovered. The workload of hospitals has dropped to 36%, and the increase in morbidity does not exceed 1.2% per day.

On the recommendation of the World Health Organization, since August 1, Kazakhstan has been publishing the combined statistics of those infected with Covid-19 and those suffering from pneumonia caused by the new coronavirus. It took about two weeks to combine the statistics, as the Ministry of Health developed new coding algorithms, regulated the information system, and most importantly, trained medical staff to identify the symptoms of coronavirus pneumonia. Such a laborious process is due to the incredible complexity of defining the disease. Often, PCR tests of patients with coronavirus pneumonia give a negative result, which means further diagnosis becomes much more difficult. In particular, thanks to the new counting system, any misinformation and groundless statements that could serve as a pretext for misinforming the population have disappeared. The authorities aim to provide comprehensive coverage of Covid-19 in order to provide timely and high-quality care to the population and to avoid the spread of non-traditional methods of self-medication.

Fighting ahead of the curve – this is how the current situation in the country can be characterized. The Ministry of Health, in close collaboration with a number of other departments, is carrying out painstaking work to ensure epidemiological stability. Taking into account the annual increase in acute respiratory viral infection and influenza diseases in the autumn-winter period, the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan is intensively preparing for a similar scenario. In this regard, vaccinations are planned against influenza. Literally all the country’s resources are devoted to preparing for the autumn period. The available beds and those that are in reserve are equipped with everything necessary and are fully ready to accept patients. Stocks are replenished for PCR testing. Medicines are being purchased for stockpiling in the retail sector and in warehouses. Much attention is paid to providing medical organizations with supplies of personal protective equipment in all corners of the country. The Ministry of Health has also revised a number of mechanisms to provide quality and timely medical care to citizens in need. In order to provide comprehensive medical care to the population, for patients with coronavirus-like pneumonia, Covid-19 treatment regimens are being prepared for subsequent transferral to health care facilities. In addition, the list of drugs has been expanded to five names, which are recommended to be used during the early treatment of such types of pneumonia and coronavirus. Absolutely all regions of the country are carrying out in an enhanced capacitythe purchase of ventilators and oxygen concentrates.

In order to stabilize and prepare for the possible next wave of Covid-19, the Ministry of Health has increased the bed capacity from 30,400to 49,700. In order to provide timely medical care at home at the outpatient level, 2,962 units of mobile teams have been created at primary health care units. It is planned to increase the number of mobile brigades to 3,500. Furthermore, the number of call-centreshave increased by 16% in order to provide timely advice and receive calls at clinics.

According to the latest data, there are about 1,958 ventilators available in infectious-related and provisional hospitals. It is planned to additionally purchase around 4,183 units of equipment, as well as connect approximately 21,000 beds to oxygen and 6,237 points to oxygen concentrates. At the moment, the laboratories are capable of producing 32,000 PCR tests per day; by the beginning of September, research capacity will be increased to 64,000 per day.

The procurement of medicines, sufficient to provide effective medical care both in clinics and at home, is also under control. The government has instructed SK-Pharmacia LLP to purchase medicines for a two-month supply. This takes into account the need to supply drugs to be soldthrough retail to the population for home treatment.

In order to provide medical care in due time in the regions, the Ministry of Health also took into consideration the necessary level of medical care. To provide outpatient care in the countryside, 1,493 mobile teams have been created and are already operating, which essentially covers 94% of the overall need. 641 ambulances are being used to provide medical care. According to the order of the government, local government offices and ministries of health and industry are obliged to provide the regions with the necessary number of ventilators by the end of August.

A number of ministries have also received important instructions in the framework of equipping the regions with effective medical care. The ministries of industry, health and finance should urgently resolve the issue of equipping the regions with mobile diagnostic equipment, and transfer digital X-ray machines of domestic production to regional hospitals. Local government offices and the Ministry of Health, as before, are responsible for the timely delivery of oxygen concentrators and medical gases to all parts of the country.

The initiatives taken by the Government also include a number of important measures aimed at a rapid response in the regions. For example, the Ministry of Health and local government officeshave been instructed to organize the work of PCR testing in the regions on the basis of veterinary laboratories and, accordingly, to staff the newly-established points with the personnel necessary for work. Local government offices, in turn, have been instructed to be responsible for organizing efficient logistics for the delivery of tests to new laboratories in the regions.

To date, the situation has stabilized in a number of regions. The best indicators for the epidemiological situation have been found in the West Kazakhstan, Almaty, Turkestan, Kostanay, Akmola and Mangistau regions. An equally encouraging situation is developing in the capital of Kazakhstan –around 73% have recovered in Nur-Sultan. The number of ambulance calls regarding Covid-19 in the capital has decreased by 10 times. If earlier there were about 500 calls per day due to the coronavirus, then today there are around 50 calls. The main task of health care at the moment is to maintain the current trend, since due to the establishment of quarantine measures, the peak of the infectiousness has passed. Moreover, the current lockdown is fundamentally different from the one in spring. Taking into account the experience of other countries, the government of Kazakhstan introduced a number of exemptions for the populationduring the quarantine, including permission to walk in small groups, exerciseoutside and visit cafés and restaurants that operate outside.

The government has repeatedly noted the need not only to continue intensive work to treat infected citizens, but also to conduct an awareness campaign among citizens aimed at observing sanitary standards and established quarantine requirements. According to the warnings of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan,AskarMamin, the alarming situation in the world still persists and a surge in Covid-19 infections has been recorded in about 126 countries. In accordance with the current global epidemiological map and taking into account the approaching autumn-winter period, Kazakhstan is taking all possible measures to prepare for a potential new wave of diseases and is preparing a set of preventive measures. Despite the fact that the Ministry of Health has developed a Plan for the phased lifting of quarantine measures, the government also notes that in case of signs of a worsening epidemiological situation, additional restrictive measures may be taken.

Together with the aforementioned measures, the Ministry of Health is also actively working on the production of a Kazakh vaccine against Covid-19. The whole world is striving to develop a vaccine and Kazakh scientists are also keeping up with their international colleagues. At this stage, the Kazakh vaccine has successfully passed preclinical trials in mice, pigs and macaques. Moreover, a number of researchers from the Biological Safety Research Institute have volunteered to test the vaccine on themselves. To date, five volunteers who have injected themselves with the vaccine do not have any alarming symptoms, such as allergies, fever, or general deterioration in well-being. Pre-clinical trials are coming to an end on August 20, after which the data obtained will be handed to the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry of Health has selected 44 volunteers who were not previously infected with Covid-19 and therefore do not possess antibodies. In September, with the permission of the Ministry of Health, the first stage of human clinical trials will be launched. The second phase of the trials will involve testing the vaccine on more people. About 200 people have volunteered to retest the vaccine between October and December of this year. These studies are planned to be carried out atthe Almaty clinics. The next step on the road to vaccinating citizens against the threat of Covid-19 will be the establishment of a manufacturing factory for the production of immunobiological drugs at the Research Institute of Biological Safety in the Zhambyl region. Thanks to this factory, up to 60 million doses of vaccines will appear on the domestic market annually.

At the same time, Kazakhstan is not relying solely on the creation of its own vaccine. According to the meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission, the Ministries of Health and Foreign Affairs are actively involved in concluding preliminary contracts for the purchase of a Covid-19 vaccine. At the moment, the departments are establishing the groups of people to be vaccinated, calculating the likely financial costs and calculating the possibility of Kazakhstan’s participation in the COVAX Facility program. Participation in this program provides the opportunity to gain access to a range of potential vaccines for Covid-19.

Summing up, it is safe to say that the epidemiological situation in Kazakhstan has stabilized. The acute period has passed and now the leadership of Kazakhstan is aiming to maintain the won positions and further strengthen the health care system.

FM Qureshi urges OIC to come together on Kashmir issue

ISLAMABAD : Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has urged the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Muslim ummah to come together on the Kashmir issue, saying Pakistan was always ready to sacrifice for the security and protection of Saudi Arabia and it was time they did the same.

Speaking to a private news channel, Qureshi said Pakistan was not in favour of aggression, but was fully prepared and would retaliate effectively if India indulged in any misadventure.

“If there is any misadventure, we will not have any choice but to retaliate.

The world should understand that Pakistan will have to react,” he said.

Responding to a question about India diverting the world’s attention, the foreign minister said, they could not rule out that possibility.

“Anything or any drama can be expected from India’s Modi government which is desperate and adventurist. But Inshaallah we are ready and prepared to respond effectively,” he remarked.

To a question about any back-channel contacts with India on the issues like Siachen and Sir Creek, he replied in the negative, adding, no talks could be held in such an environment.

“Sitting with the government of Narendra Modi [for talks] is tantamount to wastage of time,” he said.

The foreign minister added that Modi had lost the battle of “hearts and minds” in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), adding that the just freedom struggle of Kashmiris could be suppressed through force.

Commenting on the laying of the foundation stone by the Indian prime minister for the construction of Ram Mandir at the site of historical Babri mosque, he said it would further hurt the soul of Muslims who were already being discriminated by various actions of the Modi government in India.

FM Qureshi said the entire Pakistan, including the government, opposition and all political forces were on the same page on the issue of Kashmir and stood with its people in their freedom struggle and their just right to self-determination.

Speakers lash out Indian Government for Human Rights Violations in IHK

DNA

Islamabad: AUG 5 – The children of detained Kashmiri leadership of Indian-Held Kashmir (IHK), have termed the unjust Domicile Law and attempts on changing the demography of occupied territory as the most disturbing aspect of the occupation for the Kashmiri people.

They shared these thoughts with the participants at online dialogue ‘One year of forced annexation of Kashmir; A longer tale of atrocities’ organized by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) here on Wednesday.

Ms Ruwa Shah, student of cinema and TV in Turkey, who is daughter of Altaf Ahmed Shah; Kashmiri activist detained in Tehar Jail of Delhi since the year 2017, while sharing her views with the participants, said that the children in occupied territory never had a normal life. However, August 5, 2019 worsen everything further with a complete lockdown imposed by Indian government in Kashmir.

“It has just accelerated the colonial designs further,” Shah said while adding further that the resistance leaders in IHK have always been highlighting it from decades that Indian government was planning it since long.

Mr Ahmed Bin Qasim, student of International Relations and Post Colonialism, who is the son of political prisoners Dr Qasim Faktoo and Aasiya Andrabi, Kashmir’s longest serving political prisoner, informed the participants that more than 13,000 Kashmiri men and women at present are detained in jails for raising voice against the occupation. He says the judiciary is proved to be an instrument of colonialism as far as the cases of political prisoners are concerned.

He said that India has used all kinds of oppression in IHK during the last 70 years and still failed to enslave the Kashmiris. Hence, now it has resorted to use Domicile Law to change the demography and introduce a culture of ‘settlers’ colonialism’ to snatch identity from the Kashmiri people.

Dr Shafqat Munir, Senior Policy Advisor, SDPI, in his opening remarks earlier said that one year of illegal actions by the Indian government has been completed that were aimed to change the fate of Kashmiri people. He said that Article 370 was scratched by the Indian government against the aspirations of Kashmiri people and in violation of the resolutions of UN Security Council.

“The legislative forums in IHK are also being changed in addition to efforts on demographic changes.” Munir highlighted and said that these conspiracies against the Kashmiris would be resited at every platform.

Mr Nasir Qadri, Human Rights Lawyer, was of view that rule of law itself has become a victim in India as draconian laws are being used against the political prisoners in IHK. Ms Ayesha Ilyas from SDPI, while moderating the session highlighted various aspects of post -5 August 2019 atrocities committed by the Indian government in IHK and said Kashmiri people have always ut a remarkable resistance against the illegal occupation.

FM challenges Modi to visit AJK, allow Imran to Srinagar to test policies’ efficacy

ISLAMABAD, AUG 05 (DNA) – Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi Wednesday challenged Narendra Modi to address a public gathering in Azad Kashmir and allow Prime Minister Imran Khan in Srinagar to test the efficacy of his policies in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

“It has been a year of your policy enforced (in IIOJK). If you are confident enough, as foreign minister of Pakistan, I invite you to come and address Kashmiris in Muzaffarabad and see what kind of reception you receive.

If you have courage and confidence, allow Prime Minister Imran to visit Srinagar and see how he is received there,” the foreign minister said while talking to media person after attending the main rally held on Kashmir Siege Day observed on first anniversary of Indian illegal actions of August 5, 2019.

He said this would prove to be a referendum by the people of Kashmir. “This is a challenge. Accept it if you have courage or review (your policy) if you don’t,” the foreign minister remarked.

He said the new political map of Pakistan represented the nation’s sentiments, which also manifested that Kashmir was a dispute awaiting resolution and India could not escape from the UN resolutions.

He said the imposition of curfew in IIOJK on the day had proved that the morale of the Kashmiri people was still high. If Indian actions on August 5, 2019 were in interest of Kashmir people, there must have been celebrations and festivities, instead of lockdown, he added.

He said the Modi regime’s fascist policies were even being condemned within India where people were calling for review as the current policies were creating estrangement from Kashmiris. =DNA
