Azerbaijani MFA: Armenia is making attempts to illegally resettle Armenians from Middle East to Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent regions

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 8

Armenia is making attempts to illegally resettle the Armenians from some countries of the Middle East to Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh and the adjacent regions, which are internationally recognized territories of Azerbaijan, Spokesperson for Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs Leyla Abdullayeva said.

Abdullayeva made the statement commenting on the reports of some media sources about alleged resettlement of Lebanese of Armenian origin to the occupied territories of Azerbaijan after the blast in Lebanon.

“As you know, the illegal activities of Armenia in the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent territories of Azerbaijan, as well as the policy of illegal settlement, are raised by us within the framework of international organizations. This is not the first time that Armenia, using the situation in the region for its disgusting purposes, has attempted to illegally resettle the Armenian population from some Middle East countries to Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent regions of Azerbaijan, which are internationally recognized territories of Azerbaijan,” Abdullayeva said.

In her words, the fact of illegal settlement carried out by Armenia was also recorded in the reports of the OSCE fact-finding missions.

“Of course, these Armenian actions are a gross violation of international humanitarian law, as well as of the 1949 Geneva Convention and its additional protocols. The goal of the Armenia is to artificially increase the number of Armenians on the occupied lands, change these territories ethnically and culturally, and thereby carry out a policy of annexation,” Abdullayeva said.

“We expressed our serious dissatisfaction with Armenia’s policy of illegal settlement in the internationally recognized territories of Azerbaijan, as well as with Armenia’s intention to use the tragedy in Lebanon for its own illegal purposes to the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. Armenia must understand that these illegal actions and attempts at artificial settlement will not give the results expected by the official Yerevan. The Azerbaijani population of the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent territories will return to their homes, and Armenia will be held accountable for all its illegal actions,” she said.

“Our demand to put an end to the policy of Armenia on resettling people in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan will continue to be resolutely put forward before the international community, “she said.

UK orders recall of 741,000 coronavirus testing kits over safety concerns

Randox Laboratories, a Northern Ireland-based medical technology company, has been instructed by Britain’s medicines regulator to recall up to 741,000 coronavirus test kits from the national test and trace program as a precautionary measure.

The government had on July 15 instructed the program, run by the National Health Service (NHS), to stop using the kits, citing concerns that they may not meet required safety standards.

“The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has instructed Randox to recall all Randox test kits from NHS Test and Trace testing settings,” the ministry of health said in a statement on Friday.

The ministry said the decision had been taken as a “precautionary’’ measure. The risk to safety was low and test results from Randox kits were not affected, it said.

Up to 741,000 unused Randox kits are estimated to be in the system, either at warehouses, at care homes or at private homes. The ministry gave instructions on how to return them.

Randox said the recall was a “regulatory measure” that applied only to sample collection kits within the NHS program. Private customers or kits were not affected, it said.

Everytime you can’t blame captaincy, credit must be given to England: Azhar Ali

Manchester : Pakistan captain Azhar Ali thinks that every time you cannot blame the captaincy and the credit must be given to England, particularly Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes.

Pakistan posted a target of 277, after a bad batting display in the second innings, getting all out for 169.

The hosts were in trouble at 117-5 but a sixth-wicket stand of 139 between player of the match Chris Woakes, who finished on 84 not out, and Jos Buttler (75) smatched the game away from Pakistan during Day four.

“It is easy to criticize with hindsight but we also need to acknowledge if someone posts a partnership like that. Every time you can’t blame the captaincy but I am here to take responsibility that we could not defend a total, as a team, which we should have,” Azhar said while talking to reporters during virtual press-conference.

Azhar, who made 0 and 18 in both the innings, said that the series is not over yet. “It’s disappointing but not over yet, there are still two Tests to go. There a lot of positives from this game, we outplayed England on most parts of this Test match,” he added.

The 35-year-old, who has now scored only 139 runs in his last 12 away Test innings, denied that his captaincy is affecting his batting.

“When I bat, I am not thinking about the captaincy, whether or not I am out of form, and when I am captain, I do not think about my batting at all,” he maintained.

Loya Jirga agrees to release 400 Taliban prisoners

DNA

Kabul, (DNA) – Afghanistan’s Loya Jirga on Saturday, urged the government to release the remaining 400 Taliban prisoners so as to move forward intra-Afghan talks.

The Loya Jirga was called to determine the fate of the prisoners, convened Friday and wrapped up on Saturday. Over 3,200 including at least 700 women delegates participated which were split up into 50 working committees and discussed the prisoner release issue.

All 50 committees recommended the government to free the 400 controversial prisoners. Abdullah Abdullah, the chairman of the 2020 Afghanistan peace Loya Jirga and the head of Afghan peace reconciliation office announce on the second day of the meeting that Jirga has decided to agree on the release of another 400 Taliban prisoners. “None of the 50 committees of the jirga categorically opposed the release of 400 high-value Taliban prisoners, a Taliban precondition to allow intra-Afghan negotiations begin”, Abdullah said. In his tweet, he further added that: “I congratulate all Jirga members divided into 50 working committees for promptly ending their free deliberations. I welcome their input and recommendations as part of this important consultative exercise as we compile & announce the outcome tomorrow.” According to Abdullah, the first round of the intra-Afghan negotiations will be held in Doha, if the release of the prisoners is completed promptly.
Meanwhile, President Ghani said the other day that the Intra-Afghan dialogue will kick-off within 3 days after the 400 remaining Taliban prisoners are released. This comes as the Afghan government had earlier released 4,600 out of 5,000 Taliban prisoners as per the US-Taliban agreement signed in February.

President Ghani refused to release the remaining 400 Taliban prisoners saying their crimes were ‘very serious’ and he cannot make any decision by himself to release them, thus he called for Loya Jirga, a traditional gathering of people’s representatives from all over the country.
