‘I’ll love to visit Pakistan’ Joe Root

Southampton : England skipper Joe Root says he doesn’t have any problem in visiting Pakistan, one of the craziest cricket nations across the world.

Speaking to reporters, Root said he has heard a positive response from players who had visited Pakistan recently. “I will love to visit Pakistan as I have heard a lot of positive reviews from fellow cricketers who visited the country recently,” he said.

“We recently saw the nation welcoming Test cricket after a long hiatus and it was really emotional for them. Speaking to a few of the players about how much it meant to them, they really appreciated being able to play in Pakistan,” he added.

Recently, England’s head coach Chris Silverwood hinted towards a possible short tour of Pakistan very soon.
“I think we are getting there [in terms of planning to visit Pakistan for a tour] to be honest. Personally, I’d have no problem with that. I’ve never been to Pakistan so it would be nice to go and have a look. And I know our batsmen would look forward to batting on their wickets. For me, it’s great that it’s back as a topic of conversation again. We are looking to get back there,” he was quoted saying.

It must be noted here that Pakistan is currently in England for three matches Test series, with just a Test left. The green shirts will also play three T20Is against the home team.

‘I am not in favor of changes in Test cricket rules’ Waqar Younis

Southampton : Pakistan’s bowling coach Waqar Younis was not in favor of making changes in Test cricket rules. The former cricketer thinks that any change would hurt the stature of the traditional format of the game.

Speaking to press after bad weather spoiled the second Test and it ended in a draw, Waqar said Test cricket will lose its beauty if any major changes will be made. “I am not in favor of any changes in Test cricket rules. Weather plays an important role in England and we can’t deal with it,” he said.

“Earlier, a Test match consisted of 6 days, including a rest day, which later on reduced to 5. Most probably in the future, it will reduce to four days. But, I think any major change will ruin its stature,” he added.

Waqar believed that his bowlers would have made a huge difference had the Test not been spoiled by bad weather. “I think our bowlers were pretty much in control, the way they bowled on the final day. I think they could have produced better results, had the Test been completed,” he said.

It must be noted here that England is leading three matches Test series 1-0 after the second Test ended in a draw following bad weather.

UAE-Israel relations

By Muhammad Omar Iftikhar

The United Arab Emirates, in a shocking move, has announced to normalize its ties with Israel. It is not a matter of when and not if, as signaled by the US President Donald Trump. Speculations are growing with each passing day about which Arab or Muslim country will normalize its ties with Israel. After the UAE-Israel alliance, Iran issued a warning to launch an attack against the UAE. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has called the UAE’s decisions a “huge mistake.” He also termed it as a betrayal. The daily newspaper of Iran, Kayhan, in its editorial states, “The UAE’s great betrayal of the Palestinian people … will turn this small, rich country, which is heavily dependent on security, into a legitimate and easy target.” UAE’s APEX National Investment company has also signed a strategic commercial agreement with Tera Group of Israel. They will collaborate on research and development related to Covid-19. According to APEX’s chairman Khalifa Yousef Khoury, “The deal is considered the first business [deal] to inaugurate trade, economy and effective partnerships between the Emirati and Israeli business sectors, for the benefit of serving humanity by strengthening research and studies on the novel coronavirus.” Moreover, the United States of America views UAE-Israel ties with satisfaction.US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman during a National Public Radio interview said, “The more the Emirates become a friend of Israel, become a partner of Israel, become a regional ally of the United States, I think obviously that alters the threat assessment and could work out to the Emirates’ benefit on future weapons sales.” Only time will tell how the countries of the Middle East, the Arab world, and the Muslim countries will react to the UAE-Israel partnership. Until now, it seems the UAE has stepped into the zone of no return. It is yet to be seen if the partnership will continue with the same force as it was manifested into a reality in the first place.
