Pakistan appreciates China for repaid development in Xinjiang

DNA

ISLAMABAD, Oct. 11  – Pakistan highly appreciates China for its consistent policy carrying out repaid development and promoting social stability in Xinjiang region, Gwadar Pro reported on Sunday quoting senior officials.

Pakistan believes its Iron Brother China has brought Xinjiang at par with its other regions in contrast to the western countries propaganda.

China’s development strategy towards Xinjiang is highly successful.  “If someone visits Xinjiang, he will see it is not behind China’s major cities. The Chinese government and people live like one unit and as one nation.

Islamabad is happy with the development of the region that was once under-developed. “In fact we are learning from them (China) to develop our neglected areas. Xinjiang is an example (of fast development),” the officials added.

Some countries were raising Xinjiang and Hong Kong issues just to demonstrate animosity towards China. “This propaganda won’t work. China has developed fast and is carrying each of its region with the major cities. Pakistan is convinced (that) China is the future of the world,” they argued, citing Prime Minister Imran Khan’s policy.

Overall statistics show that China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has seen a positive trend in economic development and people’s livelihoods have significantly improved.

Noting that development is an important foundation for lasting peace and stability in Xinjiang, Chinese President Xi Jinping recently at the third central symposium on work related to Xinjiang underlined the need to fully and faithfully implement the CPC’s policies on governing Xinjiang for the new era.

Xi demanded law-based governance and long-term efforts to develop Xinjiang into a region that is united, harmonious, prosperous, and culturally advanced, with healthy ecosystems and people living and working in contentment.

Xinjiang’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has increased from less than $147 billion in 2014 to $205 billion by 2019, with an average yearly increase of 7.2 percent.

In mid-September, China’s State Council Information Office published a white paper titled “Employment and Labor Rights in Xinjiang”, which said that through proactive labour and employment policies, Xinjiang had continuously improved people’s lives and guaranteed and developed their human rights in every field.

Jan Achakzai, a geopolitical analyst and a politician from Balochistan, said western media will hardly report great strides of China’s success in development, grass root transformation and poverty alleviation of its once most underdeveloped Xinjiang.

“China has done marvels over the last decades by reducing poverty lifting over 100 million people out of misery. The governance has delivered in terms of creating an enabling environment through special focus on infrastructure development, energy self-sufficiency, and human development. And it matters for Pakistan,” he said.

He added, “For Pakistan, particularly Balochistan, the Chinese success in poverty alleviation and improving under developed areas is a role model.

Being the poorest of Pakistan’s provinces, Balochistan’s poverty level, according to UNDP estimates, is around 70%. As Islamabad is prioritizing fundamental pillars of the economic take off, investment in infrastructure, energy and human development, a development-led governance model should be adopted in smaller provinces like Balochistan.”

He said another field where Pakistan can learn from the Chinese experience in Xinjiang was tourism promotion. “Tourism could be lucrative for Balochistan as it boasts best places to attract tourists from the world. China has particularly focused on this sector in Xinjiang.
According to one statistic, more than 100 million tourists spent around ¥182 billion ($ 26 billion) last year in the region, boosting per capita income massively,” he remarked.

No scientific evidence to support death penalty

EU ambassador Androulla Kaminara says call for death penalty might come from an impulse

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD, European Union (EU) Ambassador Androulla Kaminara has said the European Union (EU) had a principled position against the death penalty in all the circumstances and for all the cases that it was unnecessary.

Addressing an event on the eve of world day against the death penalty, she said, “There is no valid scientific evidence to support that the death penalty deters crime more effectively than other punishments. Instead, it is the certainty of being caught and punished that serves as a deterrent and of course actions to prevent such crimes from happening in the first place.

The EU ambassador said,“The call for the death penalty might come from an impulse in reaction to a horrific crime. But as a society, we need to reflect deeper on what justice really means and what needs to be done for such crimes not to happen again. The performance that premiered today invites us to enter this discussion.”

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Barrister Dr Muhammad Farogh Naseem said implementing the law regarding criminal justice system in Pakistan was a complicated issue due to some cultural and social taboos and needed improvement.

The people in general were not satisfied and had expectations from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government to bring changes in the law so that the accused should not get scot-free, he said while speaking as a chief guest.

Farogh Naseem briefed the audience in detail about the reforms measures taken by the present government in the justice system, like early adjudication of civil cases, transfer of inheritance, ensuring rights of women in inherited properties, and provision of legal assistance from the state to the weaker and poorer segments.

On the occasion, an art performance titled ‘Before The Sun Comes Up’ was screened to highlight the miseries of a death row prisoner and his sentiments.

Ambassadors from the EU countries, representatives of civil society and government officials attended the function.

AJK President urges for infusing complete unity to frustrate Indian evil designs

MIRPUR (AJK): Oct 10 (DNA): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President
Sardar Masood Khan has said that closing eyes like a pigeon will not
avert dangers, we have to prepare at every level to fight the storm
coming from India by realizing the evil intentions of the enemy.

“The followers of Hindutva do not want to eliminate the Muslims in India
and Kashmir alone but are conspiring, what they are publicly saying, to
extend their frontiers up to Kohala, Azad Pattan and Wakhan,” he
insisted.

He expressed these views while addressing a luncheon hosted in honour of
the leaders and workers of the Milli Yakjehti Council (National
Solidarity Council) at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Muzaffarabad on Saturday, AJK
President office later told.

The event was also addressed by Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan leader Liaquat
Baloch and former Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Azad Kashmir and Chairman of
the Public Accounts Committee of AJK Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rashid
Turabi and other speakers.

The President urged the religious scholars and spiritual leaders to use
the forums of mosques, imambargahs, seminaries, and shrines to caution
the people about the imminent dangers, and tell them that the fascist
Indian rulers have altogether changed the status of occupied Kashmir,
and now they are eyeing on Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The religious scholars besides promoting unity and harmony among
different schools of thought, should mentally prepare the nation to
counter the threats confronting the country,”he added.

About the situation prevailing in occupied Kashmir, the AJK president
said that Indian designs can be gauged from the fact that it had
deployed one million regular troops in the held territory while the
former Soviet Union had deployed 250,000 troops during 20 years war and
later the United States had deployed 150,000 troops to capture
Afghanistan.

He went on to say that India had deployed one million troops to not
fight any terrorism but to salaughter eight million Kashmiri people.

Khan said that after having failed to suppress the Kashmiri people
through inhuman repression, India had decided to change the demography
of Kashmir by settling Indian Hindus in occupied Kashmir so that the
Kashmir issue is buried for good.

Speaking at the function, Jamaat Islami Pakistan leader Liaqat Baloch
said that all tricks and plans of the fascist Indian regime are bound to
fail, and the Kashmir would certainly become independent.

Declaring Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan as the first defence lines
of Pakistan, Liaqat Baloch said that the people of both regions must get
the rights equal to their Pakistani compatriots. He warned that the
federal government must not take any action about Gilgit-Baltistan,
which is harmful for the Kashmir liberation movement in any sense, and
said that plebiscite in accordance with the UN Security Council
resolutions was the sole solution to the Kashmir issue.

The Chairman Public Accounts Committee of AJK Legislative Assembly,
Abdul Rashid Turabi lauded the efforts of Azad Kashmir President Sardar
Masood Khan in highlighting the Kashmir issue with full courage, bravery
and wisdom at the national and international level.

He said that President Masood played not only the role of ambassador of
Pakistan and Kashmiris but also represented the entire Muslim Ummah. He
said that the role of Sardar Masood Khan in the field of diplomacy is a
role model for all ambassadors of the country.

He said that as the President of Azad Kashmir, we are both satisfied and
proud of the way he went to every nook and corner of the world and
highlighted the sufferings and plights of oppressed Kashmiris of IOJK.
